Skating in RR looks more like THPS but with more "realistic" animations and physic inputs. The way you string tricks together and doing combos more resembles the later Tony Hawk games like Project 8 and Proving Ground than it does the EA Skate games. Still looks fun either way though, keen to try it out myself!
It also reminds me of american wasteland that game had the bmx in it too it was slept on lol but rr really does remind me of an updated version of THPS thats what the 5th one should have looked like!
Riders Republic's skateboarding feels a lot stiffer and artificial than the one in Skate 3. You can see how the skater gains momentum from nothing while doing tricks, and the tricks are replicated to perfection, while in Skate 3 it feels more natural and the flow of the movement is more realistic

When I play riders republic, it feels like I’m stuck in a permanent line until I inevitably fall off. Forget using any mode besides racer, because steep and trickster make it nearly impossible to not do flips when you aren’t trying to. I tweaked my settings for hours. Safe to say, skating in this game is just ass.
theres only 2 things I dont like about this, the pushing animation feels too slow and drawn out compared to the fast snappy animations for tricks, it kinda messes up the flow a bit. And the sparks on the trucks looks a bit much. Otherwise it looks awesome!

Look at how in RR his grind slows down but then he summons more grind speed out of nowhere. I don't like that....for that reason I gotta say Skate 3's still better. Also some of RR's aerial rotations look weird, like he's doing Late backflips
I hated everything about the skate 3 falling physics!! It’s a weird gimmick that’s fun for 5 minutes and it’s baked into the play style. I was so over falling like that when I enjoy rag doll wipeouts so much more haha

Regardless of Arcadey vs Realistic, if they make the game too easy it is not going to be fun or challenging. SSX Tricky and SSX 3 were both arcadey yet it took a lot of skill to land your tricks just right. SSX 2012 on the otherhand was too easy, with its magnetic auto grinds.
Skate 3 came out in 2010 while Riders Republic came out in 2021, Riders Republic was made for present day not Skate 3, a more fair comparison would be if skate 4 had released and is being compared to Riders Republic

skate 1 and 2 are exactly like that. that doesn't make the gameplay arcadey, arcadey is a design philosophy - what you're describing is incidental physics glitches that don't conform to reality. the game design philosophy was still to keep it grounded in physics. subtle difference but it's there @@asherc2809
Rider Republic seems like a slightly more realistic THPS. Skate is much more realism based. Riders Republic seems fun to play, it seems much more forgiving in it's tricks for the fun factor. I've noticed for a game like that, you need a lot of maps or else being too good will get boring pretty fast

You can tell someone never stepped on a board when they put EA Skate and "realistic/realism" in the same sentence. The only "realistic" feeling I guess is the flick of the stick representing the flick of the board. But that was already in THP8, Skate just improved it.

People get surprisingly realistic given the physics of Skate because there is an upper limit to the animations and you can "break" the game really quickly if you stray too far from the structure the devs made for it. What else do we have for "realistic" skateboarding? Skater XL? Session? Two games with stiff as hell characters, wonky gravity that either slows you down too quickly or makes you fall too fast, and no sense of weight or momentum in the physics system. That's the biggest problem with SXL and Session. They don't have that visual sensation of weight/momentum being thrown around. This alone makes Skate more engaging to play simply because it was the one thing it absolutely nailed. It both controls and visually looks like your character is heavy, especially in Skate1/2. This is what makes Skate so satisfying to play, even after 15+ years.
Their physics engine honestly needs a lot of work. Looks fun but I think a lot of the animations are way too snappy and unrealistic, it seems like the threshold to actually fall is insanely high (maybe it was set to less realistic/easy mode), that would probably break the immersion for me. Also for whatever reason starting grabs/flips in RR seems to make your character accelerate unnecessarily fast for the first half of a rotation, then it catches up and has a somewhat normal animation. Looks worth playing but definitely doesn't look like it'll dethrone the skate trilogy as the best video game skateboarding adaptation.

As someone who skates and uses my games as inspiration to imitate, session is the one for me, skate 3 is so good for its age and honestly will hold a huge place in my heart, Riders Republic is a bit too floaty and arcady, like the THPS series but THPS is again unmatched by these games as its a whole game if its own, long story short, if you skate play session or skate 3 otherwise play the other 2
both unique in their own ways and honestly skate 3 still holds up to this day, but right now fuck em both. Sessions/SkaterXL is where my heads been at lately

As someone who was both I prefer Skate 3 but maybe that’s just cause I’m a skating fan. Imo the gameplay in Skate 3 is just right
Skate 3 is the greatest game ever made.
I know mainly only content creators are getting access to it but is there a way to possibly sign up to test or will there be a sign up sometime?
you cant go wrong with either on honestly its jus skate 3 has nostalgic value which holds weight still to this day
why have i never heard about riders rebublics skateboarding. that looks really good. maybe too easy/ arcade. but if its going for a skate style then its pretty damn good. skate 4 has its work cut out for it.

It’s not good. Don’t buy it if you are wanting a good skate game. I’m a demigod at the skate games and I can’t even do 180’s on this game without doing a gymnastic routine.

As someone who skates and uses my games as inspiration to imitate, session is the one for me, skate 3 is so good for its age and honestly will hold a huge place in my heart, Riders Republic is a bit too floaty and arcady, like the THPS series but THPS is again unmatched by these games as its a whole game if its own, long story short, if you skate play session or skate 3 otherwise play the other 2
agreed. nothing better than taking ages to sessioning a spot trying to land one trick or line. really gets you motivated to skate

After playing games like session and skater xl, I can’t really get into they floaty moon physics skating games anymore, skate 3 on the realism mode is still fun though
apples to oranges dude. two different type of games. if i wana not focus on what im playing and burn a few hours not caring then im playing riders . if i wana have a serious session shreding then im 100% playing skate . no debate .
