Reminder Skate 3 came out in 2010. The fact that its still up to and or above par in fun factor and gameplay then most games still amazes me.

Flow and a real feeling of having momentum is extremely important in creating a realistic skating experience and I think that is what holds skate 3 still a slight bit above modern skate games. riders is more like a THPS.

If you play Skate 3 like a cringy tricklining youtuber it will look arcade-y.
Otherwise the flow and trick animations of Skate 3 are still amazingly high-quality for their age. The game has its limitations of course, but you can get the Skating to look realistic with some effort.
Just search here on YT for realism montages. People pull off surprisingly realistic lines for such an old game.

@@Rednblack900 just because riders has diverses ways to play the game doesn't mean that it betters than games that have those specific options, like here, skate 3 and riders republic are ''skate sims''' and while riders republic does have the option to skate, skate 3 can do way more than republic

Skate 3 has a wider variety of grab variations.
allows for more control over manual tricks, like nose manuals and lip manuals.
features flick tricks, where you flick the right stick to add variations to certain grabs and grinds.
to sum thing up while riders republic may be your favorite game, that doesnt mean its the best game okay?
but it is fantastic that you have your own opinion and we would love to see more opinions from you in the future, just as long they dont include hurting people.

Skating in RR looks more like THPS but with more "realistic" animations and physic inputs. The way you string tricks together and doing combos more resembles the later Tony Hawk games like Project 8 and Proving Ground than it does the EA Skate games. Still looks fun either way though, keen to try it out myself!
It looks like that perfect blend of arcadey play style with sim visuals
Project 8 still has some of the smoothest animations I've seen in a skateboarding game

It also reminds me of american wasteland that game had the bmx in it too it was slept on lol but rr really does remind me of an updated version of THPS thats what the 5th one should have looked like!

Their physics engine honestly needs a lot of work. Looks fun but I think a lot of the animations are way too snappy and unrealistic, it seems like the threshold to actually fall is insanely high (maybe it was set to less realistic/easy mode), that would probably break the immersion for me. Also for whatever reason starting grabs/flips in RR seems to make your character accelerate unnecessarily fast for the first half of a rotation, then it catches up and has a somewhat normal animation. Looks worth playing but definitely doesn't look like it'll dethrone the skate trilogy as the best video game skateboarding adaptation.
thats because you have to play with assisted mode off its just like skate 3 with it off
RR's physics looks very arcade like but enjoyable.
I think it looks a bit too smooth for my taste, but more skateboarding in games is always good.
Riders Republic's skateboarding feels a lot stiffer and artificial than the one in Skate 3. You can see how the skater gains momentum from nothing while doing tricks, and the tricks are replicated to perfection, while in Skate 3 it feels more natural and the flow of the movement is more realistic

It’s fun as in THPS fun, you can’t compare this to skate because you handle skating in a totally different way.
I think there’s going to be a lot of people that enjoy riders republic gameplay. Really curious to know the control scheme.

Its funny how skate came out in 2010 and is still the most realistic(but still helps players out.) skating game out there 14 years later

I hated everything about the skate 3 falling physics!! It’s a weird gimmick that’s fun for 5 minutes and it’s baked into the play style. I was so over falling like that when I enjoy rag doll wipeouts so much more haha
i love skateboarding but as a spectator, and the games bring me joy
theres only 2 things I dont like about this, the pushing animation feels too slow and drawn out compared to the fast snappy animations for tricks, it kinda messes up the flow a bit. And the sparks on the trucks looks a bit much. Otherwise it looks awesome!

Ah this area. I broke so many bones here.
My biggest complaint with the Skate series was just how much more absurd and “arcadey” it got with each installment.
But man, riders republic looks 10x worse in that regard somehow.
For context, I just sunk a bunch of hours into Session, and when you first start out something as “simple” as trying to line up a kickflip noseblunt on a ledge can take several attempts.
The idea that someone can throw an inward heel backflip method grab into a noseblunt off a mega ramp is straight up ridiculous…

as a Session player who spends an hour tryin a clean trick, riders looks and feels bad idk its just too much, skate 3 is still dope af

I would say its a matter of "arcadey vs realistic" but both types of gameplay can be fun.

@@d3tuned378 skate 3 is incredibly arcadey. It is physically impossible to do most of the stuff in skate 3. The wall rides last forever, the quadruple kickflips, the crazy steep ramps at the SUMP, the flips into grinds. All very arcadey.
skate 1 and 2 are exactly like that.
that doesn't make the gameplay arcadey, arcadey is a design philosophy - what you're describing is incidental physics glitches that don't conform to reality.
the game design philosophy was still to keep it grounded in physics.

Regardless of Arcadey vs Realistic, if they make the game too easy it is not going to be fun or challenging. SSX Tricky and SSX 3 were both arcadey yet it took a lot of skill to land your tricks just right. SSX 2012 on the otherhand was too easy, with its magnetic auto grinds.

Skate 3 came out in 2010 while Riders Republic came out in 2021, Riders Republic was made for present day not Skate 3, a more fair comparison would be if skate 4 had released and is being compared to Riders Republic

Looks like the skate 3 have a "manual mechanic" well established, while Riders Replubic has a "arcade style" remembering TH Videogame series, where you can just push a button and grind a eletric wire.
I'm opinion, Skate 3 and all skate serie its for players who like the manual style that the game brought to us, while Riders Republic bring the tony hawk pro skater mechanic (specifically THPS 5 and THPS HD) of arcade game in a modern engine to players who likes most
Considering Riders Republic is more arcade like than realism, this makes sense. It's almost like the perfect middle ground between Skate and the Tony Hawk series.
I don't know why Skate players have to convince themselves they're playing a simulator while doing a 1260 double back flip christ air down a 275 ft gap.

Skate 1, 2, and 3 was great. The story and everything but No one is talking about the rider Republic graphics. Also better player mechanics and player is not stiff. Why are they better than skate? I still can't believe this.

Look at how in RR his grind slows down but then he summons more grind speed out of nowhere. I don't like that....for that reason I gotta say Skate 3's still better. Also some of RR's aerial rotations look weird, like he's doing Late backflips
The best games do one thing well instead of trying to make one physics engine work for nine different methods of transportation. They all end up feeling slightly off because they are.
Skate 3 is the best skating game ever, it is like fight night champion as the best boxing game, 10+ years old games that are better than today generation

I feel like Skate got hype by making the controls feel more realistic (using right stick to control the board). So far I don't feel like Riders Republic is doing anything to upstage Skate the way it upstaged THPS. It'll be fun sure, but will it have staying power?
I want the evolution of Skate, not something that feels like the same game. It's too arcadey.
The tony hawk style pressing x to jump and shit just doesn’t do it anymore it isn’t fun after playing skate. You gotta have the joystick control

You can’t beat skate 3’s skating it seems like riders republic is trying to mimic the feel of skate but it still won’t ever be the same feeling.

Rider Republic seems like a slightly more realistic THPS. Skate is much more realism based. Riders Republic seems fun to play, it seems much more forgiving in it's tricks for the fun factor. I've noticed for a game like that, you need a lot of maps or else being too good will get boring pretty fast
Exactly why games that are made for that specific sport(example skate for skateboarding) riders republic can’t compete bc RR jus doesn’t have enough tricks an enough spots so after learning all the tricks an being good it gets boring very fast, don’t get me wrong still a fun ass sport arcade game, I recommend trying it out if ur into this stuff,good that RR adding some new maps for skating n BMX but even then wit no new tricks for bmx an very little tricks on skateboards those maps won’t matter,give it less then 2 weeks an it’ll die out again
You can tell someone never stepped on a board when they put EA Skate and "realistic/realism" in the same sentence. The only "realistic" feeling I guess is the flick of the stick representing the flick of the board. But that was already in THP8, Skate just improved it.

It's only unrealistic if you play Skate like an autistic trickliner. Tell me you've seen at least a few realism montages of Skate on YT.
People get surprisingly realistic given the physics of Skate because there is an upper limit to the animations and you can "break" the game really quickly if you stray too far from the structure the devs made for it.
What else do we have for "realistic" skateboarding? Skater XL? Session? Two games with stiff as hell characters, wonky gravity that either slows you down too quickly or makes you fall too fast, and no sense of weight or momentum in the physics system.
That's the biggest problem with SXL and Session. They don't have that visual sensation of weight/momentum being thrown around. This alone makes Skate more engaging to play simply because it was the one thing it absolutely nailed.
It both controls and visually looks like your character is heavy, especially in Skate1/2. This is what makes Skate so satisfying to play, even after 15+ years.
Nothing will ever come close to Skate 3 but it still looks good in RR.

riders republic is a participation trophy type of game. it isn't even hard and every race/ challenge is easy.

It depends on if you want a skateboarding game or a game with a variety of riding sports (Just get both theyre worth it)

RR Is more accessible, while Skate 3 has more freedom and control.

If your looking for a more organic/dynamic or in other words "realistic". I'd stick to skate 3,but if you're looking for a more arcadey/dynamic thps feel, I would go for RR aka, Riders Republic.

What are the controls like in RR? Is it legacy controls matching skate?
When I tried it it was exactly like any other riders republic sport mode. You use the trigger and a direction to pick a trick. I didn't really like it.
As someone who skates and uses my games as inspiration to imitate, session is the one for me, skate 3 is so good for its age and honestly will hold a huge place in my heart, Riders Republic is a bit too floaty and arcady, like the THPS series but THPS is again unmatched by these games as its a whole game if its own, long story short, if you skate play session or skate 3 otherwise play the other 2

I find riders republic to be really smooth with all its trick system. The first skate game was favorite for the same reason.
Tiders republic looks better than skate 3 session and skater xl.
But skate win on uniqueness of spots.
And it feels not so locked in. Better physics.
Ir riders republic introduce free gravity mode and skate controlls and more unique and recognisible spots they win easy.
But skate 4 still gon be better when released.

dude riders republic skate could be the next longest lasting if "skate." thats currently in development isnt rated well by players
if they reduce the size of the features and replicate actual size rails and features from street and park, then riders republic will be even better than it is - maybe even some real life parks thrown around in there somewhere would a solid addition also
