This ending is so sad with the knowledge of Isaac leaving the band and having troubles with performing. It being from the perspective of having taken the sunglasses off and losing the confidence makes this version quite emotional. Hope he’s doing better.
there’s something so incredibly haunting yet beautiful about this song. “and the bite of its blades reminds me of a future that I am in no way part of” cuts deep; literally. the visuals too. life is so alienating in all its beauty.
I love this version of Sunglasses. While I think the album version is better for the album, I love that we have this alternate take that trade sin the originals frenetic anxiety for something more somber and primal.
Isaac is such a fucking amazing guitarist. He could easily hang with fucking Lee Ranaldo, David Pejo or Tom Verlaine or whoever, no trouble. I am primally drawn to play with him and learn from him. I am older than his dad.
This is like a completely different song and I'm here for it, though I will admit.. I much prefer the album version, but that's just my punk upbringing taking precedence lol
This is an issue with putting so much into your product and then having everyone want it replicated just like that when its their turn to witness....but you cant do that over and over with pieces that are so imbued in your dna without getting completely exhausted. Isaac deserves peace for his payment to the arts
There are lies you tell yourself. You tell yourself those lies at like, 20, 25, 30... the casiotone numbers. Then its later. ... and I like my nutribullet.
Great version but could the engineer have mixed the bass any lower? May as well just ignore the instrument and the simmering tension it brought to the song
the difference is that slint had no budget, no /mu/ clownbase and no exaggerated sense of self-importance. nor were they trying to fit into a genre or even make a new one.
self-importance is of course examplified by the vocalist singing about his lowest moments while flat out acknowledging his biggest influence in the lyrics. Of course very self-important things at play here
the slint comparisons are soooo tired like move on. sure they have similarities and bc,nr are clearly inspired by slint but this is like saying nirvana were a lesser pixies.

I hope Isaac is doing okay
OK enough to rejoin the band, let's do this Isaac.
He does, few days ago someone passed crossed Isaac and said he looked good 👍
i saw him recently. he was looking strange with a fresh style, so i don't think he's feeling too great

Yeah literally just listened to the opening two chords and I'm immediately aware that this shit is about to be transcendental 😎

The single version is also different I like that one a ton also
That groove they get into when the bass and drums come in is sooo sick!!
drum mixing is sick in this version
But the bass feels almost non existent >:(
Godspeed You! profile picture!!! Absolutely amazing taste of music you have.
i remember hearing this single for the first time and being absolutely mind blown. Even so, i could not imagine the hights this group would reach
I really love your group. I hope that bright spark of inspiration does not leave you
This version is so haunting. Just discovered it today. Amazing.
I think the second part is the best part of this song, but this version also gives goosebumps
Yes, the first half is accessible and conventionally catchy.

so happy we have this on video
New part is pure blue balls. All the dopamine woulda rushed out of my body if I saw that live.

BCNR has made me feel si much happier
Does anybody know what kind of fuzz is Isaac using in the intro? I'm obsessed with that tone and trying to recreate it
i can’t speak for in this performance specifically but their go to distortion and fuzz on FTFT was a cranked up muff pedal out of an orange cab
