    That weight sticker on the front is for rigging and moving with a crane, weight of the machine is between 20-21k depending on tracks cab etc! Great vid man really Diggin your channel no pun intended

    Get the Cat rep to come out and show you how to use the SlopeAssist on the D3...👌you’ll be sold then. Can’t beat the 308 either, no question the best 8 ton machine on the market (or 309 if you want to run that mulcher!)

      I think the Deere 85G is superior. Cat won’t track and spin like the Deere and the emissions system is pretty reliable

    I recently put 14hr’s on a new D3, I spread 100 loads of clay-gravel. It felt like a Ferrari version of a crawler. Control and comfort was amazing.

    I’ve literally ran both of them just last week. The company I work for has ALLLLL CAT. In my personal opinion the 308’s hydro is alil touchy so it’s alil harder to do real fine tuning touch up work but you can lower the sensitivity so it’s not so bad but I still love a 308! The D3 is an amazing finish dozer!!!! Can make stuff super smooth! And it’s being stable even on a 1:1 pitch!!!

    My 289 is nicknamed D2. Cause it works like a little dozer. We use a 4 foot trencher, sod roller, forks, tooth buckets and grapple bucket on it. Great on fuel too! Glad you got some seat time in the machines!

    we use the 308cr for shoreline protection moving 4000-8000 pound boulders protecting shore along lake supreior. at 750 hours its had a rough life. its the only machine that can fit between the shore and houses. a next gen Cat 308 with a thumb has got to be the most versatile heavy equipment.

    My JD 333g will run circles around that 239 or any other cat CTL and that’s a hard pill to swallow because Dad had been a die hard Cat Equipment owner for all my life and had been running them since I was a young teenager! Id go with that D3 over a Komatsu D39 personal preference really on that though, as far as “mini” X’s go I’ve not ran a lot of them but I had the local Takeuchi dealer give me a 2 week demo with one of the new TB290’s and in my opinion it’s your Yanmar with a different paint color but newer same instability and a little less easy to finesse than that cat was.

    Seems like nice equipment. Haven't been on anything new for 12 years. I always liked the feel of the cats. I know the john deere cabs seem small and loud to me in comparison but a lot of people like their stuff too

    Haven't run anything like this. I started out running a 953, a 215D, a 416 II and a D4C XL. Just purchased a Kubota KX71-3 to start my own business. Been hauling gravel in my own dump truck for a few months now.

    Getting used to a new CAT-310. I looked at Takeuchi, John Deere, & Kubota, but bought the CAT as nobody else could supply one before the end of the tax year. Please share your thoughts and perceptions on the excavators you're trying out in your quest! Best advice I can give you is rent one of each as seat time is the best way to compare. CAT is definitely not the cheapest, but resale seems as good, or better than the others. In fact, with 2 or 3 recent price increases, I'm thinking mine might be worth more than I paid for it, for now. CAT Service is expensive, but you get what you pay for, at least in my area. Now all I need is a D3 dozer and a 299D3 track loader and I'll be set ;-)

    The D3 is a bit big but not too big, however it pays for itself extremely fast... providing you can get the work to justify the purchase. The 308 is the same but it’s uses out weigh the cost significantly... my opinion... if you’re gonna purchase... get the 308 and rent the D3 as needed and the only reason i say that is because you already have the truck n trailer to haul it and the weight factor is not there... the only thing that i can think of “with your contacts and reputation” ... you are established enough to pay for it. Someone in my position jus getting started, i don’t have the contacts nor reputation built up enough to justify that payments so i have to buy “outright” what equipment i can afford and start creating a social network. God speed and good luck, and thank you for bringing me along your journey

    With the hours you spend in these rigs, plus the CAT service, I think it is a no brainer to go with CAT. I am still between the 306 and 308 but was looking at Yanmar also. Your Yanmar experience turned me off, they all have their issues but when my 259D needs parts, they have it, when it needs work, they will do it at their shop or on site.
    Some things are worth paying for. I always figured there is a reason the big guys mostly sport CAT, time is money!
    Also, I’ll watch even more of your stuff if you buy a 308 next gen! Just need to pay some other equipment off I think I’ll have to have one.
    Don’t forget that CAT often will do 0% interest on their compact equipment, that doesn’t hurt!

    I'm probably just a grumpy old man stuck in the passed, but I don't like modern equipment. I have no use for all those fancy electronics and I don't like the "new" diesel systems. I also don't appreciate LGP tracks which seems to come on everything these days. I am astonished at how heavy that thing is! 30k lbs? I own a D3 from '97 and it comes in at around 18k. That D3 is nearly twice the weight? That is insane!

    • @elihautamaki547
      @elihautamaki547 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i agree with you a lot of modern equipment is not as good as some old equipment. but if you pick the right machine for the right job its amazing what they can do we use a 22,000 pound machine to lift and place(sometimes scoot and roll) 8000lb granite rocks all summer long. we had a 86' D6 and that thing was amazing completely analog, so easy to fix stuff on that. nowadays if you break something you gotta get a tech to come and look at it.
