The comparison of terror to furniture omits a very important piece of information: amount of exposure. It's the exact same faulty logic as people comparing furniture or bath tubs to shark attacks. People walk past and use their furniture dozens of times each and every day. Virtually everybody owns furniture. Therefore, the amount of exposure to the potential danger of your furniture is extremely high. The vast majority of us won't be in the ocean this year, and the ones that will be, are likely only going to be in the ocean for a couple days during a vacation. Therefore, the exposure to the possibility of shark attack is much lower than the exposure to furniture. Now, even fewer of us are going to cross paths with a terrorist this year, so the exposure to that risk is even less frequent than the exposure to sharks is (at this point, anyways). What does all that mean? Well, it means that the danger of something is not directly linked to the total number of injuries/deaths that occur from them each year. The danger of something has to do with the number of injuries/death that occur per incident of exposure.

Hey Gavin, I'm jewish and I was just in Israel for the first time and I walked through the Arab market in Jerusalem and I was told by someone that I should fake a phone conversation just in case because stabbings happen in the area and I'll leave it up to the people to guess who does all the stabbing.
