    I can't believe all the people criticizing his performance. If you're too insensitive to get around his posture, or you claim that it's "not musical enough", please take your head out of your butt and appreciate this for what it is: a demonstration of the technical abilities of one of the best trumpet players in the world.

    • @charleshinton9665

      If you are talking about the fact that he crosses his arms around the trumpet when not playing, it is possibly because the auditorium is too cold, and he is trying to keep the horn warm. Temperature change is a real enemy of brass players! Outstanding performance, and the encore requests speak for themselves!

    This is ridiculously amazing!!! I don't understand how someone can make playing the trumpet seem so effortless. I'm a trumpet major in college, and it is definitely not easy for me a lot of the time, especially when I get into the upper register. I'm working on it, though. Nakariakov is definitely one of my favorite trumpeters, along with Phil Smith, Alison Baalsum, Tine Thing Helseth, Bud Herseth, and a few others. This is definitely a top notch performance.

      I was a Trump major in college in the mid 70's, but I dropped out. No regrets. In fact, I'm so glad my parents allowed me to try and figure out if a career in music was for me. I didn't drop out because of the realization that I couldn't be this good (which I couldn't), but because I realized that being a musician required such a singular focus that in the end it wouldn't make me happy as a career. On the other hand, I am deeply grateful for my musical experiences because it was and always will be a source of awe and beauty that I will forever treasure.
      Back in my day, there weren't as many great players as today. I am just totally astounded by the number of unbelievable Trumpet players there are now. Sergie's talent and mastery is just ridiculously astounding. I particularly appreciate the absolute preciseness and clarity of all of his articulations; this is an area in which I believe he is unmatched. But there are so many, like those you've listed, that are unbelievable and have their individual strengths.

    I don't dispute the razor-sharp criticism that has been offered, but I would just like to point out a couple of really remarkable features of this recording and others that Nakariakov has made. His double- and triple-tongued runs, especially the difficult descending runs, are the fastest and smoothest I have heard. And most of the difficult phrases, not to mention those of a cantabile character, have a gentle grace created by a dynamic rounding off at the end, coupled with just the slightest hint of vibrato. He favors the mezzo-piano dynamic range. The playing never sounds aggressive. In this video he looks, perhaps, older than his years. I know he has sustained a spinal/neck injury. I hope he is well today (12/30/2015) and will continue to perform.

Played the 3rd movement for Frank Purcell at Iowa and got a full ride. To play like this all the time and especially to be on everytime one performs is the secret! I got too nervous! One thing is obvious, he has total command over what he does and doesn't even break a sweat!

    Sergei is definitely one of the best trumpet players alive ( but it's hard to beat Alison Balsom for tone and flexibility and I still like Vincent de Martino)
    however I do wish he would stick to the timing. Arban knew what he was doing when he wrote it. Sergei plays the theme almost twice as fast as it's written and he plays the 8th notes at the beginning of the phrase as 16th notes then dots some notes at the end of the phrase to make up for it. he also plays the first variation much faster than it's written. then by the end of the piece he is playing in time.
    this makes the song sound a bit awkward because it almost seems to be the same speed all the way through whereas it is supposed speed up and build all the way to the ending.
    overall though he does a very good job of it... much better than I could do myself.

    • @IPANoah
      @IPANoah 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He sticks the first note right of the theme exactly on the 6th eighth note. And he doesn't play the theme almost twice as fast as its written, nor does he play the first variation overly fast (its marked eighth=eighth). Go back and check your Arban book. Anyways Its called musicality bro. Its totally in the style in the style to play rubato on this (not that he really is). Spend your time getting better, not trying to nitpick the masters.

    I agree with your comments that each individual is different however a raised approach does more than merely give more loudness. In most cases a raised angle makes it easier to relax the throat giving a wider airstream and so a warmer richer tone. Of course there are exceptions to the rule ! In regard to the video a terrific excecution of the technicalities of Arbans Carnival of Venice.
