I'm a big fan of Dex on my Fold 4. I have a little USB C hub and use my Fold instead of a desktop quite often. Adds another form factor to the equation. The hub allows me to charge at the same time so bonus. As others have said, some apps don't function well but that's only a few in my case. Not an issue all things considered. Don't let perfection get in the way of good enough. Dex is certainly good enough to use.

I had a monitor with a USB-C already set up and had the thought "hmmmm...I wonder if I can stream a football game from my phone to the monitor." I plugged it in and got the desktop experience immediately. Completely blew my mind, I didn't know this was a feature. Don't know why it's not advertised more, it's amazing.

I use dex with my s22 ultra because im living at two places at once, having to haul my pc around is tough, i got a little dex station going that costed me a little over $120 CAD and it works well for daily productivity. Great feature makes me not miss my iphone 13 pm

I've been using my fold 3 with just the large screen as my monitor as my main "pc" replacement for months now. Working out just great! Increasingly becoming less relevant to own an actual computer these days. I can do just about the same everything from the fold 3 as I was able to do on my pc.

It is insane that we are coming into an era where literally our computers are pocket sized. You could argue that smartphones were already there, but not like this. This is the bridge to it. And that 1.8g price tag is proof of it.

They probably won't because it's been getting updates every 3 or so months now and every other company including Apple are now trying to add DEX like features to their stuff but Samsung is years ahead of them. So it'll probably be here to stay.

Dex is such a great utility application it would be foolish of Samsung to remove it ever. While a proper desktop or laptop still has a greater processing power, dex, and consequently the Z Fold series, are giving these types of devices a run for its money. Apple has their thing, but... Ehhhh

I successfully completed a week of work on an S22 and S20, using VPN, remote desktop, i was able to access specific applications that were installed on a work PC or server as well as network share drives.
and for game streaming it works quite well with xCloud or Moonlight or GeForceNOW.
I've had really hit and miss adapter/dongles to support higher than 1080p resolution. I found an older Samsung Dex Dock & Dex Pad, and both work really well and have Gigabit ethernet and 2 USB ports and HDMI out.
no super ultrawide support sadly, so no 32:9 or 32:10, just stretches a 21:9 or 16:9 resolution.
*one thing I'd like to see/try is on Lenovo professional monitors, they have a DisplayPort daisy chaining, where 1 input can be used for 2 displays. one DP to the device, and the monitors have an out and input to daisy chain, I'm super curious to see if that could work.

It's my computer for work (regular office work) and leisure since 2019. The best approach is to see it as a Chromebook.
The benefits of comvergence are amazing. Your work, your files, are always with you, even in the streets. In your pocket. Plugin a monitor, keyboard and mouse and your workstation is on. Great even for security reazons.
With OneUI 5 / Android13 the experience ia better, more polished and a much better (and "desktopier") taskbar.

  • @FAT8893

I don't own a Z Fold4, but I've been using DeX from my Note8. I'll be totally honest here: it doesn't completely replace my Windows machine at all. There's so many limitations for Android as a desktop OS. Even Microsoft Office for Andorid have limited features compared to the Windows equivalent. Of course there are cloud virtualization options exist, but they all required monthly or yearly subscription and fast stable internet in the first place. By the time you spend your money for one or two years of cloud virtualization softwares, you have more than enough money to buy a new Windows laptop with at least Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 CPU.
If there's one area I definitely value DeX a lot, it's when I'm travelling light without my Windows machine. I just bring a portable monitor or a lapdock, and I have a makeshift tablet. It couldn't have been better to have such a useful flexibility

    • @h.b.hatecraft953

There are several free apps that do everything Microsoft office does. Samsung even made their own back in the day that where free on their play store. When saving the document you just make it a compatible format for Office, then you can move the documents back and forth. At least that's what I did the few times I had to work on documents at work and home. Don't pay Microsoft a subscription fee. It's theft.
