  • Silence was observed at all places in this recording (low-volume talking are allowed if you need to pose questions to the brothers/other retreatants, or for prayers).
They recently changed their rule to allow women to visit and/or stay at the monastery. For non-Catholics or even non-Theists who do not feel comfortable praying inside the church, there is a meditation room with yoga mat that allows you to seek God at your own pace. Roughly 96% of the books inside the library are Catholic literature, 2% of them are fiction novels, and the remaining 2% are holy books and spiritual books of other religions such as the Qur'an, Veda, and Torah.
Video was taken on 21 December 2016 by Thomas Andrikus at the Gethsemani Trappist Abbey in New Haven, Kentucky.

Best video I’ve seen on the abbey. You really explored everywhere you were allowed and showed me what to expect. Very thorough. It was like I was right there with you. Explained so much. Thank you!

Is there no tabernacle in the church? No crucifix or altar? I don’t mean this as a criticism, it’s merely a question. In another video about Gethsamani Abbey I saw an icon of the Blessed Mother holding the Infant Jesus, but in this video even that icon is missing. I don’t understand.
I’d like to add, however, that the video is well done and the buildings and grounds of the Abbey, including the cemetery, are very peaceful, serene, and awe-inspiring. Thank you for posting.
