- Shocking new figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) show that shoplifting reached an “all-time high” last year, citing 20 million incidents costing retailers £2.2 billion - with violence and abuse against staff also rising by 50%. So what can be done about it? Well, Farrah McNutt, a prolific shoplifter from the age of 13, has turned her life around and now dedicates her time to preventing theft. Well done! I’m so happy for your transformation keep going and never give up! 🙏🏾❤️
I used to do anti-spoplifting training which also included shop layout, one to one staff training in conflict resolution and deterring shoplifters at point of sale. Importantly, stores need to know what is being stolen (especially with larger stores). Usually three sessions was enough to capture all staff. One major sports retailer was losing hundreds of ££s of trainers every week. After three sessions they had the lowest shrinkage across all the branches across Europe. I'm retired now but happy to liaise with Faram and share experiences etc.
i was a prolific shoplifter ' i stole bottles upon bottles of shower gel ' you could say i was addicted to the stuff ' but im clean now 🤣
Very sad reflection of society today. That a young person has to resort to crime to stop the bullies. However this clever girl has made a career by stopping the shoplifters. Fantastic turnaround 😊😊😊
This just shows everyone can make a change in positive way no matter how many mistakes we did in the past thank you for sharing your story wish you nothing but success in life 🙏
This is also why people get away with so much.
As system has that same belief
No matter how low in life I felt or desperate I could never see my self resorting to thiefing. But unfortunately in this society minority of public will not help and just dudge you as a thieve or waste of space. Not knowing people's life situation or personal problems.
*thieving
@JohnHipkin-yr6wr actually theft, especially from last year, is going to become more common. The government or somebody in control upped the price of upping the prices on our heating bills and at a push some families will and have been caught shop lifting when times have been so hard and I'm not saying its right but it happened because it was down to the sheer pressure everyone was under higher and middle class could live comfortably but especially people who are lower class anyway in society at a desperatation will steal and because I do work in retail because these people would do it we were told to handle as a store these people with more compassion and not to embarrass them further by calling the cops. It became not as simple as calling these people thieves even though it is stealing who were doing something they wouldn't do in their right minds

@@Craigwilsonmusic1989 yours is fine, well done
If you listened to the story properly, you would have heard that she was a child of 13 years old who was later convinced later on by the older generations who were supposed to be guiding her in the right direction not the wrong. Luckily enough, this young lady acknowled the error of her ways and turned her negative experiences into positive ones that now help and serve others. Good on her
This girl Is amazing, watch her catch a theif videos she gets it spot on
Wow well done😊❤
all of the things she's describing have been in place in large retailers for years but she's talking about these 'measures' as if they are innovate or revolutionary.
We use artificial theft detection technology that alerts store workers that a possible theft is taking place. The A.I detects the suspected theft via CCTV and creates an alert with a CCTV clip of the suspected theft. This technology is very new
@@catchathiefuk I sell this technology in a multitude of commercial camera brands - along with mood tracking which I sell to movie theaters to gauge customer interest in digital posters as they pass by to know which garner the most interest or best reactions - it was new-ish at InfoComm in 2017 although private sector had been using it for cooler stuff before it made it to the commercial market.
What I'm not hearing is how to catch shop lifters so because her shoplifting days are behind her and someone has bags of confidence, looks people in the eye and smiles, chats to floor workers with a big bag in their hands - what can she do in that situation? My only guess is monitoring security footage because in my head im picturing a senerio whilst someone is having an attack of conscience and deliberating whether to steal baby medicine or they can't afford their low budget shop, they'll get caught as someone without a conscience with confidence will be walking out the shop so how will she be stopping that?
She won't but obviously security cameras will.
@melgrant7404 however and this goes back to my point a Mother with a guilty conscience will get selected easily on the cameras as a thief because it's her lack of confidence or dare I say a woman with a conscience knowing its wrong she will get caught either by camera or staff members because what's more suspicious a woman doing that or someone walking around chatting to others, looking them in the faces, smiling and then taking something that doesn't belong to them and this woman is a former thief is she just basing it on it takes a thief to know another?
I'm not hearing the subtle clues, if there are any because going back to my point, if you act suspiciously, and draw attention to yourself going I cant do this, but my kid needs this they're going to look at and monitor you more. Even someone who is going around the store filling their trolley up just for filling it up because I've seen it happen I work in a supermarket and there's big whads of meat in there, cheese and alcohol even with tags on as well as half a shelf of noodles and so on - that's suspicious. Someone can just as easily make off with just a couple of items and no one might pick up on it because they've not drawn attention to themselves, so any training staff members have even had how to spot shop lifters they're not going to be able to stop that person. I want to know how a pro shoplifter is going to put a stop to these confident people who get away with it.
I always see shoplifters when I'm food shopping
There are foodbanks and other social support services available for anyone in the community who is struggling with food hardship. Many of the family run independently owned retailers we work with donate to foodbanks and some even given people who are struggling direct help
Liar
foodbanks are proof of how much the public are ripped off by our politicians living above their means ' yet we have the idiots that blame sertain people helping politicians spin a webb of blame ' at the end of the day ' its politicians that do the real crimes ' leaving the public to pick up their debts 🤷♂️
@@catchathiefuksome people are to ashamed and embarassed to go to foodbanks and tbh i dont blame anyone who shoplifts, prices are through the roof, its borderline impossible to survive in this world, i work 50 hours a week and have to pay all my bills instead of buying food, i eat a hot dinner twice a month (if i'm lucky)
GRASS
cant believe shes the reason we have card limits, just shows that chavs can change their life around and become middle class citzens! Proud of her
The thing is though yes she may have had her reasons, but so do plenty of other people have “their” reasons. I don’t really think it’s her place to be judging other
You have to remember that she was a child when this happened. She's now an adult who sees the error of her childhood ways and turns it into something good that will help others
I’m I the only one not understanding her? I had to turn on closed captioning to understand what she was saying.
What about shops nicking customers change it always happens to me time to time of course no arrest they steal customers change when u over price them for a product with reduced price in the first place or lie about a item half price and still comes up full price
Just last week, a young school age boy asked if I had some spare cash so he could get something from the bakery section when I was shopping. I said no, I’m sorry I don’t carry cash but if I did I would.
I walked away… just to go back look for him and told him, go get what you need and come find me, and I’ll pay for it.
When I handed it to him I said, I’m glad that you asked and not taken it, because that could land you into trouble. He thank me very politely. ( I have children and if any of them would steal I mostly be cross and super super embarrassed).
I’ve witness many just taking things.
I would never. I would rather approach a manager or ask someone.
The sorry state of things in this country And also around the world.
Wages are not enough for the outgoings one has. And does not take much for anyone to be in financial trouble… unless there’s a backup cash of savings OR family that could help.
Wages do not cover the cost of living. That is very true.
I like how she gives her explanation into why she did it. They shouldn't pay her to shop lift, the payment is the stolent things and they are all poor so that wouldn't be appropriate to ask for payment for stealing for them. Of course it isn't victimless, lol! It isn't right BUT overpricing things and only making life affordable for ultra ultra wealthy people is unfair and prompts people to steal. You give them no option.
At no point do they call it what it was - kleptomania
She brave but at lest she honest to tell her stories but still it’s hard to trust her cause of her stores 😮very sad
Not really she was a child learn to spell please
Definitely not hard to trust her, she seems very genuine and has clearly learnt her lessons
She was a child who turned her negatives to positives to help others. Good on her, I wish there were more who could make a change for the better
that's nicola Roberts from girls aloud
There is actually a condition which compels people to shoplift, not sure how to pronounce it though.
this is hardly anything special or new, have you not heard of the saying it takes a criminal to catch a criminal. we've seen it all before with people taking those skills to then also change to securing homes by pointing out weak points.
Have you seen her on 5 star episodes of shoplifting monitoring people on videos ? She's doing a brilliant job ! Some people in the comments to quick to judge on somebody who owned there wrong doings and turned there life around to help people again
@@MyFrankieee I dont think you read my comment at all, if you did you failed to understand it.

It takes a thief tv show , aired on Discovery channel.
Lower the price of things.
Don’t believe they had a bag too put a bouncy castle in and she strong enough too carry it come on
Yes it’s flat packed
Is she hard of hearing?
It’s called being on both sides of the Fence
Stitches for snitches
OK she turned around her theft issues....but what about her other issues, why is she talking with a slurred speech?
If a jumkie can walk out a shop with a basket full and gets away with it.. its unfair to others... The boss from a co op told me the police will only charge if its over £200
That policy has now changed! New powers are now being utilised to reduce theft and violent retail crime
There is no time limit on theft prosecutions. She needs to go to prison for her previous offending shes admitting to. The nerve she has that she now thinks she can lecture the police on how to deal with theft.
I believe you are incorrect in what you have assessed and written!
This lady is now 31 years of age. The offences she talks of shoplifting that happened when she was a young teenager at 13 years old and on top of that she was encouraged by the older generation at that time to steal when infact the older generation should have been encouraging her to do the right things in life instead of the wrong way. She was also arrested and punished at that point in time. As she was a minor at the time and did not continue with her wrong actions, she has no criminal record as they got wiped for continuing to do things right, in which she did. As she grew into an adult she used her negative experiences as a child and turned them into positive ones and decided to help the community and retailers create a useful platform to help. She could have easily used her misspent youth in the wrong way, but instead, she chose not to and decided to better herself and become a positive role model instead.
This is proof in the pudding that people can change if they so wish to do so. My hats off to the lady, I just wish that more people would do the same
She needs to go to prison for historic shop lifting? When she has turned her life around and helped others? Whilst also having a child? Prison is for those who are a threat, or who are consistently offending and making no effort to change. I work in the criminal justice system. It sends thousands to keep somebody in prison and is intended as a last resort... it must be in the public interest. Explain to me how this is in the public interest?
Blah blah blah
Very mature
first
Was she bullied due to her huge ears
Feel free to cut you’re hair
She is not dedicated😂
Why didn’t she first consider joining a government organisation to help to reduce child poverty ? What she has done is just found another way of taking money !
