    I remember when Crusher disappeared. I always found her attractive and interesting so it was a very obvious thing when she just vanished. I liked Pulaski but I was glad when Crusher came back.
    Gates just has this charm. I don't know what it is but I loved Dr Crusher.

    I always liked Gates McFadden's character. Not only was she elegantly attractive, she was intelligent and a great friend to Patrick Stewart's character.

    Thank you for sharing!! It's awesome to be able to see these 2 women on stage together,...a rare treat! It's also wonderful to hear the different types of questions as compared to some of the usual ones and to hear the responses from Marina and Gates. Truly one of the best convention shares I've seen in a while!! Many many thanks!

    Wonderful to see these two together.
    I had heard Gates was fired after season 1 for being a 'Diva' - issues to do with her hair. It is actually good to hear she was fired for the more noble cause of standing up for the role of Beverly Crusher as an intelligent woman. And soo glad they brought her back.
    Marina cracks me up! She would be great at comedy.

    29:10 - Gates, I love you, love you, love you. Couldn't agree more - they were ridiculous to let you go.
    I was always really sad that Crusher wasn't funnier - I could always feel a sardonic humour underneath from Gates's delivery, but I was always sad that they didn't push that more.

    I've meet Marina on several occasions; you are very misinformed if you think she is anti-family. She's from a very close knit Greek family which values family. Yes she is a feminist. She made the statement about kids wanting to be on relativity TV because it is true! Gates teaches at a college and gets the best minds while Marina leads a working actress life, where in auditions she sees the wanna be reality stars young people. I see them at my high school. She speaks the truth, which hurts!

    Romney lost the election because he was simply too conservative. I don't want to argue politics on a Trek board, but Marina's statement was supported by the voters in the US, who voted against Tea Party & Republicans. Furthermore, Marina is a US citizen. She has the same rights as everyone else to state her opinion. She can even run for public office like Schwarzenegger. It's a pity that when a woman states her opinion, people think less of her. If it were Patrick, I doubt it would be the same.

    It was great to hear McFadden break down the reason why she wasn't there in season 2...it was always a hush hush issue.

    • @AFKShowAustin
      @AFKShowAustin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. She had a falling out with the executive producer or one of the writers (can't remember which) and they basically wrote her out of the season. She said that she worked on the disagreement with them during the season and finally came to reasons and was written back in for season three.I suspect it was over money but all she said was a disagreement.

    • @CaptainPond
      @CaptainPond 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gates only just touched on it here, it was with the bosses of the show. Not Roddenberry though.
      She thought the writing was misogynistic and racist at times. She’s right! ‘Code of Honor’ is probably the best example. “He’s such a basic male image” was one of the cringing lines.

    Thanks for the great comment! We would have liked to have brought viewers more of the Star Trek panels from Austin Comic Con 2012, but Wizard World was concerned about CBS copyrights for Star Trek. What gets us is that 500 other people took video on their crappy cell phones yet we (with professional equipment) we not allowed to video tape it. Thanks for watching!

    I've worked in US, Canada, UK, Norway, Germany and Kenya. I've seen first hand what these reality TV shows do to young people, especially the young poor! Reality shows dumb down many (not all) young people by not making them socially, political, economically or ecologically aware of their environment. There is a huge difference between a university trained performer who understands what it takes and an under 18 who has little or poor schooling and believes looking good will lead to success.

    We live in America and she has a right to her opinion even if she was not born here. As for the comment itself we are all gradually losing our rights in this country and the American people have spoken on this issue. Ihe 47% + have spoken. Unfortunately Mr Rommney has no clue on how the majority of working class Ameiricans live and work.

    Star Trek the Next Generation went on the air in Sept. of 1987 so more than 25 years can age someone why is that a surprise? Even 4 to 8 years ages people look at any U.S. president before and after they leave office.

    The irony of a video where 'The Women of Star Trek' discuss mostly feminist issues and women's rights yet almost all the comments are rude remarks on Marina's physical appearance...
    Get a life. Seriously.

    • @Scripture-Man
      @Scripture-Man 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't condone rudeness, but physical beauty is one of the most important and fundamental aspects of womanhood. The TH-cam comments reflect the real world, not the insane make-believe world of feminist ideology.

    • @permanum4u
      @permanum4u ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lee Bee You are a man trying to speak on womanhood??? I hoped you figured that shutting the hell up would have been a better choice for you. Marina was married and had been married for quite a long time when this con happened. What makes you think she would give a rats ass about your opinion? Men are incredibly stupid, especially self-subscribed needs.

    Gates teaches theater at university. I also work at university. Both Gates and I have the luck of working with some of the best young minds in the world. Although there are different ways of getting an education such as an apprenticeship, university education is able to reduce the type of reality-show-mentality ie rags to riches which many poorly educated young people have. Marina speaks the truth when see says that many youngsters have reality show performer as a career goal! It's sad but true!

    42:00 ... Here in 2020 during the global pandemic quarantine, so what Marina was saying, about the government keeping us isolated in our own homes, is rather prophetic. Sure, the actual isolation right now is to protect everyone from each other, & it's not 50 years from now, as she was thinking, but it's still in the future, 8 years later after this clip. But it can still happen again some other day. For me it was a great coincidence that I randomly bumped into this clip & heard her commenting about the government keeping us isolated & then actually using technology to keep everyone connected (internet, webcams, youtube, recording, etc). Hmm, perhaps it is not coincidence after all.

    • @leeannasloan2292
      @leeannasloan2292 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marina is very intelligent and she's no fool..she's outspoken so media tends to focus on her attitude and not what she is actually saying..I also caught that watching this in 2022...I have felt the same way for awhile.

  • @fredrika27
    @fredrika27 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't mix up being an actor on Star Trek with being an individual with one's own personal belief system. Sirtis and McFadden can agree to disagree on a number of topics. They have the right to support or not support abortion. Finally it is time conservatives stand down and accept others have views that may not agree with the conservative guidelines. Therefore stop trying to bully or shame people into thinking how you want them to think. It's not working and it is time to move on!

    we use royalty free music since we dont want to be sued by anyone.. If you dont like it feel free to compose something yourself and submit it or make a donation (as we make no money doing this) so we can buy rights to use other music. basically if you feel you can do better than us then by all means do so. but until you produce a show yourself you really cant bitch about the free service we provide you.

    I i agree with Sirits. i don't want to be any of those things. I wan to be a counselor because i want to help people. My friend wants to be a lawyer. we are both 12 and we have straight A's. we are looking to really just help people. a ton of people i know want to be famous and stuff just like she said and it dissipoints me. i do drama because i think it is fun, not because i want to get everything they do. they are awsome and these 2 are my idols.

  • @DraftMasterJohn
    @DraftMasterJohn 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is an example of you being a well prepared parent. I still don't think that the government should interfere with people's ability to do that. I think if they want to 'promote' something it should be done by giving a sizable tax break to the thing they are trying to promote and let private groups, companies, etc take advantage of said tax break. (IMHO)

    If I has an opportunity to address any of the former actors, I would ask about and encourage new episodes. Rather than try to feature every past actor, they could develop numerous episodes around the individual actors. Look at how much Worf's character was developed when he was on DS9. I really did not like him until they spent time to bring out his back story and give him a chance to shine. Now I would love to see an entire show based upon him only.

    notsorry to bring this up - maybe again - but i am cravin to see a next-of-next gen - maybe StarTrek Evolution
    somewhere far ahead in time - with a complete different concept of space-adventure..
    [?] geek culture : when startrek wasn't aired anymore - and the Philosophy books removed from the local libraries..
    the war started... and voices faded.

    • @AFKShowAustin
      @AFKShowAustin  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      herauthon four I haven't heard of anything in the works beyond TNG (I think that's what you're looking for) but, there are two great projects in the works currently, however, both take place during the early Federation. Check out Prelude to Axanar (The Houston Con 2014) and Star Trek Renegades (Space City Con 2013). Both these are being produced by people who actually worked on or stared in the Star Trek series someplace. Both will be great once complete and I look forward to seeing them in the future and what they might bring to the table.
      Thanks for the watching and commenting. Please subscribe if you have not done so already.

    • @herauthon
      @herauthon 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i guess i have seen some - with variable results - some are very well done - brilliant considering budget and means - every effort is a part of the whole - since in every project there is something to learn, adapt, improve and .. - the latest edition 'into the darkness' - is not my trend.
      Some people want to see wars..
      my attention into Startrek is the philo parts - circumstances and solutions..
      A space traveling bookwork -
      what is flawless if one looks with one eye?

    Good point but since they fund abstinence only programs it seems only fair that they also fund the alternative. Unfortunately in today's society more and more young people are experimenting with sex and access to comprehensive information on this subject is vital. Being the mother of male I advised him to wait until he was older but I also gave him information so he could at least be safe if he decided not to follow my advice/
