I just drove thru central and western Kansas roughly following your route. Can't imagine hiking that in August. Wow. In other news, Taters will be delighted to know that the corn harvest is well underway.
I camped for 4 days up on top of that dirt road out of Gunnison 5 years ago (from wv). Was a magical week in crested butte. Beautiful. Video brought back good memories.
Leaving a comfortable hotel room and hiking off into the drizzel must be incredibly hard. I admire your grit and fortitude. Good luck and thanks for sharing.
Beautiful trail once again but that rain looked miserable and I am sure it felt that way. I hope your left foot is feeling better. Take care and stay safe.
I drove another TH-camr up to Pikes Peak on Monday and he exclaimed, “Matt hiked down this road??” as we drove up Ute Pass. To be fair, that gave me a chuckle.
Obviously, way too late since this was months ago, but there is a grocery co-op with lots of bulk bin items a couple blocks away from Clarks across the street from Camp 4 Coffee (at least there was when I was there two years ago). I was hoping to see you stopping at Camp 4 Coffee. I love that place.
Absolutely gorgeous scenery. People back here called this area Crusty But I suppose because of the highfalutin people. You actually saw a cowboy and I don't remember one in Kansas. Reminds me of going to California around Bodega Bay. Saw our first glance of the pacific and turned around and there were cowboys in the hills behind us.
Very nice scenary but autumn has arrived . Shitty weather and chilly temps ! But : nice campplace and Tillamook ! Keep it on and keep an eye on the left foot .
I always wondered how they kept the roofs from leaking in Crested Butte. They use the fake weather stained corrugated metal roofing. I have it on my shed (50 years old) and can't keep it waterproof but am working on it. Gives the town some charm though.
Matt, I know we’ve beaten this topic to death but ……have you considered trying a max cushion shoe for a short segment to see if the extra cushioning would help. I’ve switched back and forth between the Hierros and the new Balance Fresh Foam X More Trail shoe a few times due to foot issues. For me, the cushioning is right on the edge of being too soft and it breaks down faster (fat guy here) but it might just give that “extra” for your foot to heal without the Hoka tax. As always, thanks for taking us along!
I appreciate the sentiment. Any Hokas I’ve tried aren’t wide enough for me. I have very wide and difficult to fit feet and trying something new on a remote section like this is just asking for trouble. See the topo troubles on the Grand Enchantment and how long it took me to correct
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Sorry! I wasn’t clear and certainly everyone’s feet are different. The shoe I was referring to is a New Balance. Extra wide… I do remember the Grand Disenchantment I certainly didn’t wish to dredge up that painful experience.
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes The New Balance Fresh Foam really helped me with my plantar fasciitis. I have Keen shaped duck feet, normal heel with wide toes and they fit me well. They do break down pretty quickly unfortunately.
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes I wasn't sure how many ADT miles you've done so far. You said you had around a 1000 left, so thinking you might be close to topping your ECT miles.
It’s only 3’000 miles to drive from Delaware to SF. I think it’s a side effect of the map projections that it feels like it has to be so much longer east / west
I can confirm, that is our noon siren. Really enjoyed your footage of the trails and roads in and out of CB. Safe travels!
That is such gorgeous country, especially the aspens turning. Thanks for all the extra effort making, editing and posting the videos.
Best thumbnail in ages! Kudos! 🙂
"It's cheese carryin' season," said the grizzled man of the mountains at the end of another cool and rainy day.
That was beautiful! Perfect timing with the aspens. Looks like a fun road.
I’m cheering you on from my cubicle!

Foot is still a management case but is what it is

The beauty of your path has me entranced! I hope your cheesy mass potatoes are yummy!

Nothing worse than having to set-up in the rain and being tired at the same time. . .😎

Heh, only in the mountains. I just dropped down near the Colorado / Utah border and it’s now 90+ degrees for the next week
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Kansas 3 ??😁
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Forgot to congratulete you : 800 miles of Colorado in 5 weeks ( forget the illness downtime) ! ! Keep it on !!
Beautiful views - hope the foot improves soon
I dont know what time the siren went off, but it sounded like the noontime siren in my hometown.

1:43 Oxygen Bar. My God what have we come too?
Amazing you've been walking 6 months now. Have you surpassed your ECT miles yet?
No. ECT was 5,000 miles and I was out for 300 days. That trail had the advantage of a much longer season due to moving north
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes I wasn't sure how many ADT miles you've done so far. You said you had around a 1000 left, so thinking you might be close to topping your ECT miles.
@@labcat647 3,400 ish. 500+ each left in Utah and Nevada and then about 384 in California
@@FirstChurchofTheMasochistHikes Mind blown that ECT is longer than ADT (or close to each other.)

Did a previous camper take a dump in the fire pit??
You keep talking about these magical beans that you prefer for dinners. What specific product are you talking about?
I have a more involved recipe on my website but it’s basically dry bean flakes, minute rice, and taco seasoning
