This video is golden! Discussing the boots, plates, trucks and cushions from multiple perceptions with associated setting preferences. Very valuable for a loner skater like me. Thank you!
This is such a great video! Not only for the boots which is why I came but this is also one of the best videos about trucks being right vs loose. Thanks so much!
WoW! Great presentation 👍 DFRESH & CNASTY and a special thanks to the Coach. A'ighT, waiting for the nexT educational sk8 Video. Again, thanks! Old sKooL sk8er aka LEGACY
Been thinking about the 172 but worried about the lack of support. Recently put a reactor pro on some Wifa vintage ice skate boots that had never been mounted before and don't lace all the way. So far so good. I also love the style of the old Betty Lytle by Hyde boots but wonder if the leather would still be any good on boots that old. The 297's look real nice though.
Cool, thank you for the comment!! Those 220 customs are mine. I use them and the 172's. I like them both. The 172's or more comfortable to me. I don't have any problems with support. But, I dance and step more than edge work. Many people that I have seen that have the Betty Lytle Hyde boots all look pretty good still. Those 297 are over 20 years old I guess. Must be that old, because now that C Nasty has used them the soles are splinting in half in the front.
Yes. I enjoyed the video. It taught me a lot about bearings, plates, weight etc. & how to interchange. Im 68 yrs old & getting back into skating & love it. I brought the 120 Riedell & need a step up. Are there any how to change bearings, plates and etc?
Thank you very much!!! No we don't have any videos on those subjects. But, this might help. Keep ROLLING!!! you.www.google.com/search?q=roller+skate+bearing+changing+tool&rlz=1C1NDCM_enUS850US850&oq=Roller+skate+bearing+chang&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j33i22i29i30l2.9411j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
It’s a great review. They both know the equipment. Running different cushions between front and back is another variable I never considered but probably one any serious skater may want to consider one day. Got me curious myself about the actual weight difference between the standard Reactor plates and the Reactor Pros. Looks like they shaved a little more than an ounce in each one on average comparing the charts. Every little bit counts and is going to help with quickness with your feet I’m glad I opted for the Pros.
Thank you for the positive comment E. W. much appreciated!! I like the Reactor Pro plate also!! And you're right about them being lighter, and quicker! I need to keep that in mind when I'm teaching people with slower responding plates.
I just got my 120's and would love to know how to you feel about them bc I was supposed to originally have the 111's but I'm looking for as much feedback on the 120's that I can get
This was so helpful! Thank you! Any word or reviews on the 3200s? I'm deciding between 297, 336, or 3200? 3200 has a steep price but it if lasts longer and it's more comfortable I'm down to pay it.
Thank you very much for the positive comment. No we haven't tried the 3200s as of yet. But, I have talked to a few that have them, that SK8TD on 297s prior. They say they LOVE them!!
That's a good setup that will work well. The Joker has the 120 setup on the even cheaper PowerDyne Thrust plate. As you can see in his videos. It's clearly the SK8TR also! Thank you very much for the positive comment!!
I just got my 120's and would love to know how to you feel about them bc I was supposed to originally have the 111's but I'm looking for as much feedback on the 120's that I can get
I ended up getting the 120 Uptown as they didn’t have the 111 Boost in half sizes. I’m happy with the leather boots… hind sight, I wish I ended up with the Juices for the aluminum plates, but I didn’t know how excited I was going to get about skating. I’m regretting it now. Maybe as a reward to myself once I’m getting better :)
I’m getting a pair of 220s. But don’t know what plate to get.... do you think the reactor fuse with different cushions would perform like the reactor neo?
Yes, same plate. One is reinforced fiber glass plastic, and the other is aluminum. Get the cushions recommended for your weight. From there you can mix and match the cushions to your preference.
I was thinking about stepping up to the Riedell 220’s or the 336. Was there more ankle padding/support on the 220 that was a custom order or was the only difference from the other 220 the tongue lining? I need decent ankle support for a past injury. Thanks so much for this review, btw!
Thank you very much for the positive comment!! Those customs 220 do have the extra padding. I don't know which would be cheaper the 336's or the custom 220's. Many people are now using the 3200's also. I have heard great things about them, might be worth checking out. www.roller.riedellskates.com/catalog/roller-skate-sets/rhythm-skate-sets/set-3200-unity-skate
I appreciate the quick reply! And that’s a good question- by the time I customize the 220, I may be at the 336 price! Ha Thank you for the link as well. : )
They are both comfortable. It's a personal choice, or preference. Both are suited and being used JB SK8TN. Now people that like the 297 style are going to the 3200's. We'll be getting some soon so we will do another review on those also compared to the ones in this video. www.roller.riedellskates.com/catalog/roller-skate-sets/rhythm-skate-sets/set-3200-unity-skate
@@ReSpEcT90210 No I haven't SK8TD on them. I've seen them on a few Cats that had them, and talked with them. They liked the Arius plate. They where probably lighter in weight than the reactor pro. Which in itself is a light weight plate.
Any of you guys try the new Arius Platinum plate ? Was thinking a custom 172 OG on Arius one day. But for what I can afford now, a used moonlight roller lol
We use 98A. We do lots of Aerial stuff. The 98A have a softer landing, than the 101A. Plus our rink is concrete floor. Get slick sometimes with the harder wheels.

Looking to upgrade to my first pair of Riedell. I’m confident/intermediate skater into rhythm. What’s your view on the 120 boot? Tempted to go for a custom short mount. Do you guys go for that for more agility or stick to standard plate sizes? Thanks for the video, not very much info here in Scotland where I live…
The 120 is a good boot. Especially if you're not trying to spend a bunch of money right now. We don't have Custom short mounts. We just go with the regular plates they have been working out well for what we are doing! Thank you for the positive comment!!
So is cushion firmness based on weight? I always thought it was based on how stable or agile you want to be. Like if you wanted to be more stable you’d pick firm cushions, idk I might’ve gotten bad advice😂.
I wouldn't say you received bad advice. Those are factors to consider. I know that the Reidell cushions are based on weight also. The more action you want, you would go with the cushions for lighter weight people. Less action you would go to stiffer cushions.
@@QuadCityCuttaz but they Are bad ass and you can just dust those jam and jb artistic skaters and have the best skates in the town! Then go back and put your dance skates on! 😂

But why everyone buy the OG Riedells? Is it just for the tongue? Dude in left didn't have anything impressive to say about them. The best Riedell seems to be the Solaris.
They are very comfortable also. D Fresh and C Nasty were both a little camera shy when it came to talking. This was something we we're trying to get them more comfortable when talking on camera for those that were asking for such videos.
So I’m in heavy debate and need to get a new skate. I’m torn between the 297 and OG boot. My feet hurt and I just want a boot that’s not gonna hurt my feet lol. I’ve wasted money and now on a VNLA skate boot with magnesium avanti skate plate and I’m so confused on what to do. Lol help me please this video is so helpful
The 297 is the best book that I've bought. Yes, I love it.
