    I am so thankful for this video. I ordered the valve kit and the included instructions say to remove the whole tank and all. 10 minutes for this video saved me an hour of unnecessary effort and my toilet is now fixed.

    Excellent! Watched the video, took three deep breaths, rehearsed on the $22 replacement, took off the canister, cleaned the gasket, replaced the canister, turned on the water, flushed the toilet and it worked like a champ in less than 60 seconds! Thank you so much!

    I saw another video that showed how to install the flush valve but, when I actually got my product delivered (I ordered it online from Home Depot), it had a different base than the one in the video. And, when I read the directions on my replacement product, they would have had me removing the tank to install a new base for the flush valve. So, I searched for that original video to watch it again and your video also came up in the list. Your title, "How To Fix a Kohler Canister Flush Valve In 60 Seconds" caught my eye. Thank God I watched it and realized that I didn't even need the new base. I kept the old base and just switched out the top. This may be the BEST video I ever watched on TH-cam. Thank you!

      The only real adjustment that might help that is adjusting your fill valve so that the waterline comes all the way up to the top of the canister. If that doesn’t work, you may consider just replacing the canister all together and see if that solves the issue

      @UltimateDiyer this is the problem I'm having too. Is the middle of the canister supposed to be full of water? The way ir seems from your explanation in the video is that the center of the canister is full of water and that's a what slows its closing? Or did I misunderstand that? Thanks!

    Great video, thank you! My Kohler Cimarron is about nine years old and I can hear it fill intermittently on its own. I remove the lid periodically and the water level in the tank is below the water line on the side of the tank. I got a replacement (the yellow one) gasket and asked a plumber to replace it when he was here for something else. He said it wasn't needed and did something quickly that stopped the filling. Now, about three years later, it's intermittently filling again. I don't know what he did. I do not hear water running, so the leakage is very slight. Is there an adjustment of some sort that he did? It was very quick. Thank you.

    • @UltimateDiyer
      @UltimateDiyer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-iv5lo8qx4i it sounds like it is the water level, look at the canister not the side of the tank. The water may be just a bit too high and it is going over the top part of the canister. since you’ve had this problem before and he made a quick adjustment that is where I would look first also, there is a gasket at the bottom of the canister that could be starting to leak. but I would start by looking at the water level at the canister, not the side of the tank.
      Thank you for watching and thank you for the question

      So first if the hose keeps popping off, I would replace it with a new hose. I’m assuming the plastic nipple is not broken off . You can get the hose at Home Depot, simply by taking the one off of the unit and matching it, but make sure that the new hose is a little bit longer so the flush arm doesn’t hit it. The new hose will be more flexible. I have even used a small steel s hook attached to the rear of the tank to hold the hose back. The noise could be coming from the hose coming loose and squealing or the part itself could be defective. I’m not sure if you fully replaced that part or you’re asking me if it needs to be replaced if it’s making a lot of noise I would probably just replace it. But before you do that remove the tank lid and flush the toilet. A lot of the time the squealing noise is coming from the fill valve, not the flush canister. If that’s the case replace the fill valve or the small gasket inside the valve. I have a video showing you how to do both on my channel. Hope this helps, let me know how it works out. Thank you again appreciate you watching.

    Good morning, great video. Question? My Kohler like your example seems to have problems. Everything seems to be working however the toilet doesn’t flush it fills the bowl with water and doesn’t flush. Used a snake, wide open. The toilet on the other side of wall back to back works great. Could it be the top valve u mentioned? The bottom seal has been changed and seals the tank fine. After sitting the bowl does drain down to normal. Help please..

    • @UltimateDiyer
      @UltimateDiyer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s hard to diagnose without see it in action but if the bowl is filling it sounds like maybe the flush valve isn’t allowing enough water to enter or the fill valve is functioning correctly. Take the tank lid off and flush and see if the take is emptying completely into the bowl. You should only have a small amount of water in the bottom of the tank.

    Great video. My problem is that the canister moves left or right after a couple of flushes making the chain taut, and the canister doesn’t close so toilet keeps running. I already shortened the chain as much as i think is right. Any ideas?

    • @UltimateDiyer
      @UltimateDiyer  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My first thought was the chain/handle as well. Maybe the canister is defective and causing it to stick. The next step would be to replace it, if you are sure the chain and handle are adjusted and working right. Make sure the handle isn’t bent out of shape.

    I have replaced the Fill Valve (with a FluidMaster 400H - off the shelf at the orange Big Box store) - because it seemed the float would stick (the float moves up and down on the shaft of the Fill Valve - it is not the "ball on an arm" type). After watching this video, I now know the Cannister type Flapper Valve could be part of the problem (it is not a new toilet; but I don't know how old it is - at least five years, anyway). I think the advantage of the 400H might be the ability to adjust the amount of water that goes into the Bowl - the Fill Valve I am replacing had no such adjustment. Great Video!

But im not sure if the is a little clamp holding the line on the fill valve or if it just pops off. I dont wanna go in and just pull and end up breaking my fill valve. Should that just pull off? I've been having a related but not identical issue. In my case the issue is that the flush valve drops down too quickly, preventing the bowl from refilling properly regardless of fill valve settings. Is it possible I've got water inside the canister that's weighing it down, or is it a design issue?

    • @UltimateDiyer
      @UltimateDiyer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We’ve had several others with the same issue and generally replacing the entire valve assembly. Seems to fix the problem. Just make sure that the water level is set correctly which it assumes you did by your description. Sometimes the handle itself can be bent and not flushing properly as well, so be sure you check those parameters. Also be sure you’re checking your fill valve that it is functioning and filling correctly. If it is clogged and not putting enough water out, sometimes it will not get enough water out in time and the canister shuts prematurely.

      @@UltimateDiyer Thanks! The problem actually arose when replacing both the flush valve seal and the entire fill valve in one go, so it shouldn't be an issue with the fill valve. I'll replace that entire upper flush valve assembly and hopefully that'll fix it!

    This makes sense. My case,I flush the handle down, drum raises and immediatly drum drops, leaves half the water in the tank, and toilet doesn't flush. I have to hold down handle till tank completely empties, and then it will flush. Replace drum?

    • @UltimateDiyer
      @UltimateDiyer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have had several do that and yes that’s a good option but first make sure the water level is set to the very top of the canister. Also I have seen damaged handles/rods that case poor flushing. Those are simple checks first and then try a new canister. Lastly fill valve can also case weird flush if they are clogging from hard water.

      Possibly and possibly the handle is bent and out of alignment. Every once in a while I change the entire handle assembly if it seems to be sticking.
