    I think what confused me about these problems growing up was that we technically are finding the distance and time when Dave reaches Lucy's exact position, rather than when he has officially overtooken her position as first. I guess turning this problem into an inequality would be more correct

    Help! Dan has challenged Dave to a bicycle race. They will ride 3 miles out of town to the old light house, then turn and ride back. If Dan's speed in the race is 20 mph and Dave's speed is only 16 mph, obviously Dan will reach the light house first, turn back towards town, and pass Dave still riding toward the light house. How far, to the nearest foot, will Dave be from the light house when Dan passes Him? (1 mile = 5280feet)

    From city A to city B, the bus started at a speed of 48 km/h. After half an hour, a motorcyclist who was traveling at a speed of 60 km/h reached it. The motorcyclist reached the city B and after 12 minutes, he started in the opposite direction , so to city A. At a distance of 12 km from city B, he met the bus. Find the distance from A to B.

    If dave left one hour later would it not be plus one hour for him since he left after Lucy? That problem for the question says how far from Niagara did dave overtake her telling us he was behind her. so for their times to be equal you would have to add an hour so that you could find the time.

    • @noice2433
      @noice2433 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave's speed was higher than lucy so he would need less time to catch up
      so t - 1 hour is the correct assumption

    Please, help🙏😖 I don't understand how to solve the following problem: The last part of a triathlon is 10k(10 kilometers or 10000 meters) run. When runner Aña starts this last running part, she is 600 meters behind runner Bea. But Aña can run faster than Bea: Aña can run (on average) 225 meters each minute, and Be a can run (on average) 200 meters each minute. Who wins, Aña or Bea? If Aña wins, when does she catch up with Bea? If Be a wins, how far behind is Aña when Be a finishes?

  • @TheDanzman1211

    This is a very simple problem which can be solved by this simple formula: "distance ahead divided by difference in rates equals time to overtake" so for the problem shown, based on the 80km/hr Lucy is 80 km ahead. The difference in rates is 100-80=20km/hr. Using the formula 80÷20=4 hours. Multiply that by the rate of the chase car 4×100=400km. So there! If you need info on how I derived the formula just add a reply here.

    • @TheDanzman1211
      @TheDanzman1211 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here is the explanation
      Solving chase problems:
      "Distance ahead (da) divided by difference in rates (r2 - r1) equals time (t) to overtake" where rates r2 > r1. The derivation is hereby explained:
      Here Car#1 is ahead by distance da.
      da. dx
      Car#1 --------------------xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx r1
      da + dx
      Car#2 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx r2
      Since Car#1 is ahead by distance da. It will have to travel dx distance more to be caught up by Car#2. This will use time t which is equal to the time used up by Car#2.
      so for Car#1 : dx=r1(t). [Equation 1]
      For Car#2 : da + dx = r2(t) [Equation 2]
      Substituting Equation 1 into Equation 2 we get
      da + r1(t) = r2(t).
      Combining like terms we get: da = r2(t) - r1(t) or da = ( r2 - r1)t
      Solving for t: t = da/(r2 -r1) which is the time to overtake.

    Nice video but very confusing, could you explain why you write on distance 80 which was the speed, then you put on the right of the number 80 t despite is under distance. after you write 100 t - 20 t which is 20 t so 80 and 100 have become distance and time i mean sorry but is very confusing.

      i doubt you still need this after 11 months, but you can use the same formulas, just make sure that your final answer is in m/s instead of km/h. the formula for speed is distance/time, so divide 5m by 15s and you get 0.3 recurring (or 0.34 rounded to two decimal places). thus your speed should be 0.34 metres per second if i'm not incorrect.
