Honestly, I am so excited for the smoke changes. I think it'll add so much variety to gameplay and make for so many interesting plays. It makes it a lot less mandatory to practice smoke lineups too, since smoke grenades actually have a counter to them and are no longer something you need to just wait out.
Ye Ye, molotoves were controversial too although nobody remembers about it.. Change is Good! Happy for new smokes, maybe some new top Tier teams will shine thanks to this.
They started working on this 3 years ago after the release of Half Life: Alyx, the engine wasn't complete and ready for an fps game before Alyx. So no, they couldn't have released this years ago. They are releasing it now because it is finally ready.
