The way the natural world "refreshes" over time has always been really interesting to me. In rural Arizona where I grew up, there are all of these little canyons carved into the ground by runoff from seasonal rains. During the monsoons, they can become almost river-like, and the distribution of flora and fauna (and random detritus) is always different after they've been flooded. Revisiting them again after they dry up has that exact mixture of sameness and newness.

It carries so much silt and rocks downstreamthat it builds up in different places in the path of the river changes constantly. A log bridge will be in one day and out the next because the water has changed direction. It's magical!

We had a Hindi remake of TFIOS about to be released recently and the lead actor in the movie committed suicide because he was depressed. This made me immensely sad and made me rethink and revise a lot of my own goals for my life.

I could use some quiet kayaking time. Some of my favorite memories as a kid was canoeing and kayaking with my dad out to an island on a lake, picking wild blueberries, looking for loons, and just exploring the small island. It small island that people would often camp on. However we rarely ever saw anyone else there when we were there. Theres something so comforting about being out on the water that feels to me like being apart from everything else.

I relate to there being things that just don't scare you, even though most things do. There's something to this idea that I can't quite articulate. But it's powerful, when you're so used to all the ways your anxieties hold you back. I would not go anywhere near that water. But I love high ropes courses. Anxieties and trauma have changed every last bit of my personality from when I was a kid, but a love of climbing and feeling strong and fearless in high places apparently is something I still have inside me. And it's the strength of a child that just parts the red sea of adult fears.

Tracie Irene I am both so sorry and inspired to hear that. I can totally relate. I am afraid of pretty much everything except “logical” fears like heights.
