D-Dude Lust isn't only sex... It's the addiction to the pleasures of the human body with an example being sex. So the addiction to drugs, alcohol, sex, and probably even straight up dopamine shots are all Lust. I see this mistake a lot when people try to impersonate Lust, they just think that Lust, is sex and that's it but in reality a demon that is Lust incarnate would more than likely be addicted to *EVERYTHING* that you can possibly be addicted to

I made a very similar comment not that long ago. I love this show, it is an animated show bit holy shit some of the things in it are really hard to watch, especially the things that are more realistic like the relationship between Valentino and Angel.... =/ I get so upset when watching their scenes together sometimes.
What's worse is that the character of angel dust was based off of viv's personal experience. She was in a relationship like this, or at least that's what I heard somewhere

Now that was one helluva BOP! This song screams, practically *oozes* Valentino. His influence, his personality, his attitude towards those below him. Even Angel, his best star. Val is the KING of his domain and he will "flaunt" it to make that clear. The beat was catchy, had me moving my body to the rhythm throughout. Val's lyrics are full of pride and lust, always knowing just what to say to get what he wants, to get people "hooked". Angel's lyrics, he "know this song". I'm willing to bet his part is the words Val spoke to him, to lure him in to making a deal and sell his soul. He's done this song and dance, and when he tries to make his position worth while, Val comes in and squanders it. Angel might be the best, but Val is the one who made him the best, and he will always be there to remind Angel of that. Fantastic as always, DJ!
The way Angel is telling his own experience through the reasoning of Valentino just shows how often Angel has heard those deprecating words pushed onto him. Even though this one was supposed to be more 'fun', it has s lot of story and DAMN what a beat. Also I love how the guards were watching Angel perform Show and Tell, a fun little nod to that cover. The way you write lyrics is a new talent of yours I increase to admire. Thanks for yet another piece of art! This is stunning!

I never really took notice the crowd's chants of 'Valentino' at 4:45, while Val is talking to Angel but ever since I did, it's been the only thing I could hear, it's so...it's so catchy and goes so well with the song. just goes to show that Valentino really is the owner of this establishment, he can get a crowd calling for him even though Angel is his best performer.
I feel like Valentino haters are just proving how much a well-written villain he is. You know you did a good job when almost all of the fandom hates him BEFORE AND AFTER the show starts.
People that fear Val have pool control skills. For if you fear losing control then you already have. You can see how Val exploits this with Angel and uses that fear to his advantage. The show also shows Val has to stop and pause if your logic adds up. If not for the F you bombs Angel was tossing they might have been able to mantain control. Makes sense though. Since Angel is still learning and growing as a character. It's great story writing.

Valentino is a perfect metaphor for addiction. People become addicted not over the thing itself, but the solution it provides, I.e. distraction from personal problems. If you attempt to get away from addiction, and assert control over it, it’ll hurt you. It’s funny that he’s a moth, as moths are characterized by going into electric shock traps because they cannot control their impulse to be with light, correlating with how addicts pursue their addiction regardless of the self destructive nature of it. Only by solving the problems that you’re trying to distract yourself from will get you away from addiction, as is the purpose of the hotel. I wonder what led Angel Dust to become an addict, and I wonder how Hazbin Hotel will provide the solution to it.
for what we know the addiction that Angel has comes from his human life represented in his name "Angel Dust" that is also a drug. What we should ask is: how he ended up with Valentino? and what's going to happen when Angel has to decide to stay in the Hotel or not, because he already said: "Angel is merchandise" and one of his best, he won't be willing to give up on him. Will Alastor fight Valentino or will do it Charlie, showing his desendant powers as she has? because that will be a really good display. We all know what Alastor and Valentino, are capable of... do we really knows Charlie?
He's someone from the 30s, and gays weren't wildly accepted let alone tolerated by then. Imagine his father and/or brother beating him for being a girly gay and turning to AD for solace.
Evasive habits leads to living in fear. As Angel proves. Even Val will want to see courage though. The point behind Val is that he'll play you for a fool if you're stupid. But if you use your bran you can control him. His introduction in the show proves this as well. Vox knew exactly how to defuse him.

Love the idea behind this. Got Angel thinking all is ok, that maybe Val hasn’t noticed the digs in his routines. But instead of something small like calling him to his office to beat him or something, you got this. Val upstaging Angel, and reminding him of his ‘place’ in Val’s world as merchandise. Well, the shows California doesn't sound or act like this. Which, I understand because he isn't the main antagonist for season 1. But when he hits Angel-Dust and reminds him of the contact, he definitely gave off the vibe of PDJ's Valentino. Like I said, this voice can come from an accident that damages his vocal chords, or be his full demon/approaching full demon from voice.
Agreed, but if this Valentino was in the show, he would distract from the other villains. But I would like to see him grow into this version through a Pride Ring no longer threatened by extermination, and through a lot of the V's competition being wiped out.

@KriegLord I agree. Yeah, some people are genuinely just born evil, but it more often seems to be a mix of both nature and nurture that causes someone to end up like this. Valentino is unarguably a terrible person, but I'd be surprised if something traumatic didn't happen to him at some point in his human life, most likely his childhood. He's clearly narcissistic, and from what I understand, to develop narcissistic traits/NPD, you'd be likely to have had something disrupt your emotional development in childhood at a key stage. Most (not all, but most) people who do things as awful as Valentino does do not just wake up one day and decide to do them; there's usually a cause. What in saying is that I'm really interested in how they explore his character, along with the other V's.
A thing to keep in mind with Val is that as an overlord he needs to constantly assert his dominance over those under him. While also having to deal with any threats to his power. This is if possible even more so an issue for Val due to the nature of his organisation. There will be plenty of people coveting his position and organisation and I wouldn't doubt there are a fuckton of contenders. Which can breed cruelty into a person very easily, and exacerbate any negative traits even further. Which is a problem someone like Asmodeus doesn't have to deal with even though they are essentially in the same line of business. As he's totally secure in his position. But that aside, even if he gets a more fleshed out story and character, I don't think he'd ever be grey. There are plenty shades of black to go for, and having a character be arguably truly evil is great too. Some characters even when given a good reason to emphasize with, remain black, they don't become grey.

In other words Val is pushing Angel to break so they learn to do better. It's going to happen regardless. Val's got to know Angel will fight back. It might even be what he wants. Vox knows how to play Val too. Val has a temper and will have chinks in his armor. You can exploit that and use it to your advantage, If you know how. Angel's still learning how to gain control. It takes someone that knows control to teach control. In some ways Val is a teacher. He won't make it easy for you. Which is the point. Val is competitive. Ruthless. And if you want to get things done then you're going to have to learn to do the same. To be what you fear. What you hate. To be willing to do whatever it takes. Whatever people think of Val he hasn't shown he's a coward. Not yet at least. We'll see how season 2 plays out. Also can we give some credit to the script writers? This is good detail being worked in.

I never really took notice the crowd's chants of 'Valentino' at 4:45, while Val is talking to Angel but ever since I did, it's been the only thing I could hear, it's so...it's so catchy and goes so well with the song.

People that fear Val have pool control skills. For if you fear losing control then you already have. You can see how Val exploits this with Angel and uses that fear to his advantage.
The show also shows Val has to stop and pause if your logic adds up. If not for the F you bombs Angel was tossing they might have been able to mantain control. Makes sense though. Since Angel is still learning and growing as a character. It's great story writing.

Valentino is a perfect metaphor for addiction. People become addicted not over the thing itself, but the solution it provides, I.e. distraction from personal problems. If you attempt to get away from addiction, and assert control over it, it’ll hurt you. It’s funny that he’s a moth, as moths are characterized by going into electric shock traps because they cannot control their impulse to be with light, correlating with how addicts pursue their addiction regardless of the self destructive nature of it. Only by solving the problems that you’re trying to distract yourself from will get you away from addiction, as is the purpose of the hotel. I wonder what led Angel Dust to become an addict, and I wonder how Hazbin Hotel will provide the solution to it.

What we should ask is: how he ended up with Valentino? and what's going to happen when Angel has to decide to stay in the Hotel or not, because he already said: "Angel is merchandise" and one of his best, he won't be willing to give up on him. Will Alastor fight Valentino or will do it Charlie, showing his desendant powers as she has? because that will be a really good display. We all know what Alastor and Valentino, are capable of... do we really knows Charlie?
He's someone from the 30s, and gays weren't wildly accepted let alone tolerated by then. Imagine his father and/or brother beating him for being a girly gay and turning to AD for solace.

I really like how we all have such different interpretations of Vals' voice. The majority of us imagine him having a deep, brooding bass-like voice.

@KriegLord I agree. Yeah, some people are genuinely just born evil, but it more often seems to be a mix of both nature and nurture that causes someone to end up like this. Valentino is unarguably a terrible person, but I'd be surprised if something traumatic didn't happen to him at some point in his human life, most likely his childhood. He's clearly narcissistic, and from what I understand, to develop narcissistic traits/NPD, you'd be likely to have had something disrupt your emotional development in childhood at a key stage. Most (not all, but most) people who do things as awful as Valentino does do not just wake up one day and decide to do them; there's usually a cause. What in saying is that I'm really interested in how they explore his character, along with the other V's.
A thing to keep in mind with Val is that as an overlord he needs to constantly assert his dominance over those under him. While also having to deal with any threats to his power. This is if possible even more so an issue for Val due to the nature of his organisation. There will be plenty of people coveting his position and organisation and I wouldn't doubt there are a fuckton of contenders. Which can breed cruelty into a person very easily, and exacerbate any negative traits even further.
Which is a problem someone like Asmodeus doesn't have to deal with even though they are essentially in the same line of business. As he's totally secure in his position.
But that aside, even if he gets a more fleshed out story and character, I don't think he'd ever be grey. There are plenty shades of black to go for, and having a character be arguably truly evil is great too. Some characters even when given a good reason to emphasize with, remain black, they don't become grey.

That's the point. That Val is going to take advantage. He WILL if you act from fear and desperation. You can't beat him that way. Or me for that matter.
Stick to the facts though and Val will stop, pause and take note. Angel almost had him at the bar. If not for the F you bombs then Angel might have mantained control. Coward moves get a backhand though. It will be interesting to see how season 2 plays out.

Val is an interesting character. Bullies can get misunderstood. Val has his flaws, but he also values Angel.
It's a complicated relationship. Val might take issue with Angel, but I think he'd have to respect the courage. Angel almost had him at the bar. But those cowardly F you bombs get a backhand. In other words Val is pushing Angel to break so they learn to do better. It's going to happen regardless. Val's got to know Angel will fight back. It might even be what he wants.
Vox knows how to play Val too. Val has a temper and will have chinks in his armor. You can exploit that and use it to your advantage, If you know how. Angel's still learning how to gain control. It takes someone that knows control to teach control. In some ways Val is a teacher. He won't make it easy for you. Which is the point. Val is competitive. Ruthless. And if you want to get things done then you're going to have to learn to do the same. To be what you fear. What you hate. To be willing to do whatever it takes.
Whatever people think of Val he hasn't shown he's a coward. Not yet at least. We'll see how season 2 plays out. Also can we give some credit to the script writers? This is good detail being worked in.
