Planet Caravan was one of my favorite chill tunes as a teen in the late 70s early 80s Get in from i good night of partying and put this tune and Solitude on the headphones and melt away great times With no internet Music was my thing
I'm right there with you. Planet Caravan is a great song. So atmospheric, hypnotic, chilling. Perfect song to come down after a party or a concert. I had a mix-tape (in times before there where playlists) with songs like Plante Caravan, Strange World (from the first Maiden record), Across the Universe (even in my pure Metal Head days, I loved the Beatles) esp. for that purpose.
Great choice! The Iron Man melody/guitar riff is very famous. College bands play it during football games and it’s featured in movies and other areas of entertainment.
The whole album, as you'll see, is FIRE, but yeah, War Pigs and Paranoid are instant classics. "Fairies Wear Boots," on Side 2, is my favorite, but it's hard to choose! you can hear how Metallica and Iron Maiden and so many other more recent metal bands were influenced by Sabbath! Do yourself a favor and watch the live version of War Pigs, from 1970, in Paris. The energy of the performance is unreal. Sadly, the song is more relevant than ever today. Cheers!
Trust us there's no bad song on albums 1-4 or the others after that mostly. You really want to get into albums 1-4, please, you won't regret hearing the greatest hard rock group of all time.
yes, i can only blame hipster song requesters and paying prunes for reactors not focusing on early albums of bands, more sensably, starting at the begining and moving foreward, rather than focusing on only the popular songs, or works of old geezers, wink, that were way past their primes.. cough cough acdc at riverplate cough cough
@longfootbuddy isn't it amazing that this band is still the best even as geezers? Just watch any of the band's TH-cam videos from THE END concert tour. I saw it live and the young people in the audience were stunned by performance. th-cam.com/video/zY5nYmTUfnQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=W-jGp3pPHC82KhO5
@@blueh2o575 you can make it look like anything you want, if you filter out everything contrary to it.. and no, it sounds like a very old ozzy trying to sing it like he used to
Awesome reaction as always.. Believe it or not that music scared me when it came out and was so before its time it was looked down upon by many... There is no way most girls would ever be caught listening to that until maybe the late 80"s
I have to disagree. It's about war in general, not Vietnam, which was an American issue, not British. It just happened to be going on when this song came out.
Simply told, this is the blueprint of Heavy Metal and undoubtely the most important heavy metal album of all times. Sabbath First 3 albums (Black Sabbath Paranoid and Master of Reality) as Well as Deep Purple's In Rock and Machine Head and while not Metal, extremely influential Led Zeppelin 2 are the foundation stones of Heavy Metal. ALL the subsequent metal genres or albums owe their sound and influence in some way to those albums. Something very special with Black Sabbath is how Ozzy would sing to the tune of the solo, or you could say that the main melody is provided by the lead guitar. Very unusual, but the result is that while Sabbath rocks hard, you can't help but humming their highly melodic solos. The extended end solo of War Pigs is a good example of this. A stone cold classic. Planet Caravan is so trippy and beautiful. ❤ My favorite Black Sabbath song is Symptom of the Universe. Such a great song. Do listen to it. The melody of Iron Man has of course, smartly being used for the closing credits of the movie Iron Man. The song is not related to the Marvel character but it would have been a crime not to use it.
Guitarist Toni Iommi lost two finger tips in a metal bashing factory accident, so tuned his guitar down to make it more playable for him, and that helped give that low doom type sound.
I'm so happy to see you reviewing Black Sabbath. I believe after you listen to their first 4 or 5 albums you may be ready to add a Black Sabbath poster to your wall.😃 Would also love to see you review more Deep Purple albums like "Who do we think we are".
Isn't it crazy that this album is 54 years old, but it's still fantastic and don't sound aged? 🥰 Verdy, where's your big/better headphones you used to have??
Was really interested to see your reaction to Planet Caravan. It's different for Black Sabbath, but they had a few songs like that. Changes comes to mind. The effect on Ozzy's voice, if no one mentioned it yet, is a Leslie rotary speaker, initially used on Hammond organs, but adapted by many for other uses. Jimi Hendrix used one for his guitar sound on Little Wing. And the percussion is Conga drums played by Bill Ward. Oh, and what you thought might be a keyboard is a flute, played by Tony onto the reversed master, which was then played forward and a delay was added. Brilliant. But my favorite part of the song is Tony's jazzy solo at the end. He is more than just a riff master.
Great reaction Verdy. This album is a classic. Ozzy, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler and Tony Lommi at their prime. Please react to Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath album which is their best in my opinion. Cheers and have a great day Verdy.
Good Morning VERDY , Ich freue mich zuzusehen dir beim zusehen Zuzusehen 😂ich wünsche mir von ganzen Herzen das du von Reinhard Mey - Nein meine Söhne geb ich nicht bewertest 😊
I can hardly believe I was listening to this when it first came out and I would have been younger than you. Seems only like yesterday. Great that it still sounds fresh and I still know all the words! Iron Man was used in the 2008 movie Iron Man.
This album, the debut album before and Master of Reality after, are the template for all heavy metal that comes after. They were the pioneers and they did it best! Enjoy. 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎶🔥
GREAT REACTIONS VERDY. NOW GO BACK ONE ALBUM, TO THE BEGINNING. THE SONG BLACK SABBATH, ON THE ALBUM BLACK SABBATH, BY BLACK SABBATH. ALSO THE LIVE VERSION OF WAR PIGS, IN PARIS 1970. DRUMMER, BILL WARD…. MASSACRES HIS DRUMS N SONG, SUCH RAW ENERGY N CREATIVE TALENT. THIRD ALBUM, MASTER OF REALITY. THEN, VOLUME 4. THEN SABOTAGE…. ITS GREAT TO SEE NEW SABBATH FANS, 55yrs LATER. I BET THAT 55yrs FROM NOW, YOULL BE STILL ROCKIN TO BLACK SABBATH….. ROCK ON 👊🖖
his fuzz was a treble booster called "dallas rangemaster" it was a kit, and not exactly like the footpedals guitarists use these days. you built it yourself, and it sat on your amp, and ud probably just keep it on. think only songs he turns it off is "planet caravan" and then the only song he definitely uses a foot pedal, is "electric funeral" with a wah wah pedal.
Hey Verdy !Always good to see you. Don;t forget to react to Lara Fabian, and David Phelps. Even if you do it on your own personal time. Love ya. Peace out. Lara's from Lara with love concert. 1999. Her Caruso, Adagio, Je Sui Malade songs are Master pieces !
I wish you'd started with the first album but i get that TH-cam reactors don't work that way so nevermind.❤️ My old vinyl album had a slightly different version of "Paranoid".❤️ The 3rd album was a little hit and miss but volume 4 has some of my favourites. It's patchy from there, but all pop music artists are like that, and they still had some belters.❤️ Ozzy's voice went years ago 😒.
This was an album I bought when it was released and I also saw the band around this time. I thought the track order was all wrong and Paranoid should have been the opening track followed by War Pigs, Iron Man and the side ending with Planet Caravan. The intro to War Pigs is too long and slow for an album opening track and so many people back in the day would skip it and go straight to Paranoid. Whole Lotta Love and Highway Star are perfect examples of opening tracks. Planet Caravan is my favourite Sabbath track ever and a perfect invitation to flip to side 2. This was the vinyl era. Great side one enders include Stairway to Heaven, Great Gig in the Sky and Child in Time.
The thing about War Pigs is that it's slower than you feel like it should possibly be, particularly in that very sparse intro. But it has the right effect, of making you feel sort of held down and uncomfortable. Of course that would never pass muster in today's ADHD world. A modern pop song would have already had three choruses before this intro is done (all identical copied and pasted versions of course.)
They are still the GOATs Verdy! Love to see your reaction to their recent live performance of War Pigs. Absolutely amazing at their age. th-cam.com/video/zY5nYmTUfnQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=W-jGp3pPHC82KhO5
KANSAS - LEFTOVERTURE / FULL ALBUM 1976 PROG ROCK / HARD ROCK CLASSICS 🎸🎹 and POINT OF KNOW RETURN / FULL ALBUM 1977 these 2 Classics are AMAZING ALBUMS From Start to Finish Masterpieces in my Opinion highly recommend both ✌️👌📻
hope you liked it, my favorite from Sabbath, with the first one (which is more heavy blues morphing into heavy metal, so you can see their influences). I recommend it to you also. Genesis of heavy metal. And if you wish to know a bit more about how the guitarist got his metallic gloo,y sound, watch this 3 minutes animation video--amazing story that shows us to never give up on our dreams, whatever shit may happen: th-cam.com/video/YL9dWxkP8Qo/w-d-xo.html enjoy, it's music history as well as a great life lesson. J'attendrai la suite pour le side 2, mais tu devrait aimer aussi, un peu différent et plus long, mais excellent.

The drums used are either congas or bongos or a combination of both on 'Planet Caravan'

The purity, musicality, grimness and sheer coolness of this first album is monumental. What an album, what a band
second album ;)
This is their second album. They took almost an entire week to record this one rather than the 12 hours for the debut.
The time frames to make these early masterpieces blows the minds of modern musicians!
War Pigs Is about Vietnam war.
Unfortunately Is still fresh today ❤

One of the best and most ikonic album sides by anyone, it has only grown in legend after being great right away.
many good songs on this album including my all time favorite BS song...Fairies Wear Boots!!

Hi Verdy, Jack Black teaches Iron Man to the kids in School of Rock...that's why you know the riff 😊
The part she was referring to was also used at the start of the first Iron man movie.
E assim nasceu o heavy metal❤
I remember how big of a song War Pigs was back when the Vietnam war was going. ( yes I'm an old geezer that still jams out on this stuff )
Yeah, that’s a fuzz pedal alright. When I first played this song on my hi-fi I thought I’d buggered the speakers!
Great choice !
