Ok, let me give you an honest world review. I put this Antenna on my mom's house in Davison, mi. All was going fine. She pulled in 35 channels, not a lot but good enough. Then a week ago, there was a bad storm with softball size hail. You do the math. I wish I could add a pic of what it looks like now. But long story short, she still has all her channels. It took a real beating but still works just fine.
We live in a neighborhood that frowns on outside antennas. Curious is this would work in my attic. We are between Phoenix and Tucson and getting channels here is tough
@jeffreythomason1113 they can frown all they want. They cannot however frown on the Telecommunication act of 1996. It specifically mentions HOA's and how the act supercedes any rules. www.fcc.gov/media/over-air-reception-devices-rule#:~:text=Section%201.4000)%20took%20effect%20in,or%20transmit%20fixed%20wireless%20signals.
I figured you'd get more channels in Davidson. In in Clarkston and got 42 with it sitting on the ground before installing it. Do you have it pointed to Detroit or the Tri Cities?
I bought the Range Xperts Long Range Outdoor Antenna with the VHF add-on kit. I'm in MidCoast ME receiving the closest broadcasts from transmitters 55+ miles away. Reception of all channels in both bands is very strong. Thanks so much for the recommendation.
I purchased this antenna in September 2023. In 2 weeks, it arrived via UPS nicely boxed and without any damage. The assembly was straightforward and extremely simple. If you are placing it in an attic, it should easily fit through the opening in your ceiling and if not, it can be "sectioned" for final assembly in the attic. The signal reception is as advertised and boosted the channels I receive from 26 to 88. The signal reception is sufficient that the channels now present clear pictures and sound without interruption in the valley in which I reside. I couldn't be happier with the decision to purchase this antenna.
I bought this antenna based on your review and I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! I'm in northwest Indiana and I got 99 channels from Chicago. AND, it’s running through 100 feet of RG 11 before a two-way splitter! Thank you so much!
Thanks for all of your videos and helpful tips! I have been planning a DIY antenna install on our property and have found your videos to be the most helpful resource out there. Just ordered my Insane Gain today!
I just installed one of these antennas and am very satisfied. I had a ton of questions and they responded to every one very quickly and helpful. Works great!!
I have one installed on a 20 ft mast, 45 ft of coax with no preamp, at my home 50 mi SW of Columbia SC. Pulls all channels day/night, rain or shine. Bought another one to replace a defective/ inadequate Televes datboss mix lr lo-hi-uhf unit (148383), that will not pull any VHF channels from Bamberg, county SC home. Best to avoid any antenna with built -in amplification.
I'm glad my videos helped you cut the cord. Feel free to give a contribution at the link below as I spend A LOT of time making the videos and responding to these comments: antennamanpa.com/support.html
Just put this antenna up and it’s fantastic. I’m around 58 miles from Nashville just 1 mile outside of Smithville TN. Every channel this antenna picks up works. VHF channel 4 that broadcast on 10 and PBS works. Really glad I got this antenna.
I took a chance and installed this exact model today and was extremely pleased with the result. What made me leery was the lack of reviews, and forums talk that had no info to support this model. Anyway, a few years back, I used to live a block away and for my OTA, I had to use a roof mounted 12 foot channel master behemoth with guy wires, a rotator, along with a mast mounted preamp, and I still had a few channels with subpar signal. This antenna is less than half the size, mounted with a shorter mast on my deck roof, with more foliage between me and tv stations, plus no preamp, and it outperforms that old $600 system. To be honest, I didn't have a lot of faith in it performing like it did. I am 60 some years old, and have installed every antenna system I have ever had. My very first thought was if it works decent, it will be nice to have a backup should power goes out, lose Internet or anything like that. But this thing works so well, I might let my TH-cam TV go, and reduce my monthly bill. Kudos to the guy who engineered this physics breaker, where the philosophy used to be bigger is better, and it was that way for a long time, until now.
@@scottt7400 You're correct. Two stations I get regularly from Tulsa are on among the tallest TV towers in the state at around 1850'. But the strongest station Tulsa has, KTUL, channel 8, I can't regularly get even though it has a 1 million watts and a nearly 1900' tower, because its 80.5 miles from me.
bought this antenna for our cabin in the wooded Maine mountains....it pulls in more stations than my old antenna did with half the size...amazing range
I bought this antenna back in August 2022, which is not the updated version and it works very well at my location. So Glad Tyler had a review recommendation on the Range experts antenna. I was pleasantly surprised it was able to get UHF TV signals clearly, that were 80-90 miles away. Since my wife watches the TV I found a sweet direction to point at where we can get all the local UHF & VHF stations without rotating antenna. My wife can serf channels like we're on cable.😀👍🖥
This excellent antenna, with the VHF add-on, was installed in summer, 2023, for our condo building in West Los Angeles. All our stations transmit from Mt. Wilson, about 25 miles away, but behind a hill from us. A scan picks up 120 channels, the only one missed being ch. 8, a low power real VHF channel. The antenna is on a short mast, just a foot above a Spanish tile roof, so it's unaffected by strong winds even without guy wires. The only downside is that you need a nut driver to avoid sore fingers when putting it together.
Bill. We are so lucky in the LA Basin to have a direct line of sight to Mt. Wilson. This should be a good antenna since we still have a few VHF-Hi stations in this area. Glad that one small hill blocking the view of Mt. Wilson did not degrade your signal. Those homes in the foothills along the 210 fwy can have many obstructing hills/mountains blocking Mt Wilson.
@@eljeffe8806 That small hill is Baldwin Hills, and signal refraction over the top seems to do the trick for us. I'm pleased with the antenna's performance, and glad that I over-rode the advice of our installer (from Orange County) who wanted to put up a more expensive antenna. I'm also delighted that a short mast was entirely sufficient.
Tyler thanks for your honest reviews. We have installed the Xps-1500. Our previous cheap remote control unit only gave us 23 stations. Now we have 41! You get what you pay for.
I managed a cable TV company in Tonopah Nevada for some time, and the man, whom installed the entire cable system for the whole town, mostly single-handedly , made his own coaxial out of 2 inch galvanized pipe with wood insulation suspended center conductor for his own design of an antenna array, this picked up the local stations out of Reno. Thank you for another quality video
GAVE THANKS $5 FOR THIS ANTENNA (see below). I live in a low elevation. After 4 other long range antennas I tried this Range Xperts Long Range Outdoor VHF/UHF - Updated Model. Mounted 14' off ground (10 feet lower than MY OTHER old antennas) It doubled the signal strength ,on my weakest station, while located in my living room. I like having all 4 broadcast stations. You were correct when you said how good quality of the build is, and the price was about 1/2 what I expected. Thank you for all your videos
I was just about to pull the trigger on the Televes DAT Boss Mix LR when I saw this video pop up. I've decided to give Range Experts a try first. At half the cost, it is worth rolling the dice. Thanks for putting this video review together, Tyler! Take care and God Bless.
Hopefully it works well for you. I found it to work a bit better on the VHF band than the Televes LR, but the LR would work better for UHF in wooded areas or if there's a very long coax cable run.
Instead of comparing to the last two antennas you tested which most of the time are not in the same class of product and not a fair comparison I think it would be more relevant to list your highest rated antenna of that class and another middle of the road model
@@josephraymond9648 I'm not going to single out which antenna has the highest level as that's up the viewers to watch my other videos to find out. Doing so would result in less videos watched and severely hurt the reach of my channel which would hurt cord cutters as a whole. In case you're not aware, my TH-cam channel is supported by views.
I'm old , so not a stranger to Broadcast TV at all. Learning about the changes in broadcast TV since the old days was helpful. Thanks for that! I paired this antenna with the basic Winegard Preamp. Baltimore stations were the goal for my tricky area. It took the preamp to bring in WBFF. The Mediasonic tuner now has 54 channels just pointed at television hill. Also some Philly and Harrisburg stations are coming in. My coax is 75 feet, so I will be getting a chimney mount to cut that in half stronger signal strength. I had an old flat lead Channel master I hooked the coax to without the preamp and got 34 stations. So the combination of this antenna and Winegard preamp made a huge improvement. When I move and shorten the RG6 I expect 20 or more % signal. This is a smart pick!
Update.... All the work is done. Chimney mount strait down to the TV with 30 ft of RG6. The leaves have come in since I put this up and the Winegard Preamp just wasnt enough this time of year. So I picked up a Channel Master 7779 with 30Db. Everything came right back. This amp has 2 settings so I can reduce to 15Db next winter if I get overloaded. My Mediasonic is showing about 15 points higher so everything we watch is round 65 to 85 rather than sketchy lower numbers now. I look forward to a review on the 7779 amp.
I've been "thinking about" getting an antenna for a long while. I finally pulled the trigger after after watching this review and ordered This antenna. Yes, I used your link. Thanks for all the great info you provide.
I have been using an earlier version of this antenna for over 3 years and I love it so much that I bought a 2nd one just to have as a back up. I use the Range Xperts antenna to watch the UHF stations out of Nashville Tn. I live just over 90 miles east of Nashville and the antenna works outstanding. The folks Range Xperts great to work with and are very helpfull. I also watch VHF station out of Chattanooga, I live 60 miles north of Chattanooga to receive the Chattanooga stations I use the STELLAR LABS Deep Fringe Directional Antenna VHF-Hi HDTV 174 - 230MHz 30-2476 I combine the two antennas onto a single RG-6 coax with an RCA PREAMP Digital Signal Preamplifier for Outdoor Antennas the amplifier has separate inputs for VHF and UHF.
Just bought one of these and it works super! I live where the broadcast tower is hidden behind a bluff and I have to pick up it's signal by reflection/refraction. No problem pulling in my local channels 70-80+ %. Assembly was easy and construction is very sturdy.
You were correct about the Range Xperts XPS-1500. The antenna is in the Attic at about 12 feet. The house has a tin roof, in a hole behind a hill. I have five UHF station at 35 mi.(rabbitears). All come in great, one I think was so strong it was overdriving the amp(Televes a 560483). I turned down the gain (I think it was gain) it was only marked with a line and 0-20. So if it it was in db, it is at about 15 under. This is just a great antenna. I am waiting on the rotor. When it gets here I am looking forward to really giving this antenna and amp a test drive. Thanks for the heads up on Range Xperts.
This antenna beat out the Televes DAT BOSS Mix which surprised me. Because of this video, this will be my number one antenna plus I'm supporting an America made product.
Here’s the missing info: The Range Xperts XPS-1500 outperformed the Televes DATBOSS LR Mix in signal strength by an average of 9.3%. It bested the Televes model for 4/5 stations, and equaled the 5th. This is despite the fact that the XPS-1500 is 35% shorter and has no preamp.
@@coryengel I am not sure about your researched conclusion. Because the further out you go, the more the TV signals are subject to changes in the atmosphere, either for the better or worse. So maybe reception conditions were not as good as usual at the time the Televes DATBOSS LR Mix was tested. It would be more interesting if Tyler could test two or more highly regarded antennas at once so they would be facing the very same atmospheric conditions.
I am quite impressed with the Range Xperts XPS-1500. Even though the FCC claims that my rural area is anywhere from weak to zero reception, I am able to receive stations from three different directions thanks to a rotator. I am also using a Televes preamp, which is very helpful due to a nearby cell tower. Thank you for a well made product.
OMG! I recently purchased one of these and BOOM, I'm getting 4 bars on everything! With the old 4 bay, I was lucky to get one bar since I'm in a fringe zone. 60 miles from everything. I can't say enough good stuff about this antenna! Thanks AM for hooking me up.
I'm glad my videos helped you cut th cord. Feel free to give a contribution at the link below as I spend A LOT of time making the videos and responding to these comments: antennamanpa.com/support.html
we got one in 2019 and we love it , we get 99 channels more than we can use. We saved thousands of dollars just but cutting the Cable cord. to date we have saved over $5,300. Over the Air is the way to go, for everything else use the internet.
Replying to @greghoggard5875: YOU HAVE **VERY SEVERE LIE-ARRHEA** WHEN YOU SAY YOU GOT AN HD STATION 97 MILES AWAY!!!! YOUR PARENTS MUST BE SO PROUD OF THE LIAR THEY RAISED: **YOU!!* SAY, YOU SHOULD WORK FOR JOE BIDEN!!!!
Thank you so much for showing me this antenna I had no idea what I was doing this seems like a nice solid antenna I think I will go with this one it looks like a lot of stations At least five or six are about 50 to 60 miles away from me
Hey Vincent Van Bro, another most excellent video review. Just watching your reviews can lead someone in the right direction, not to mention your informative videos. Just to share my experience, I just moved 70 miles Southeast of Tucson to Sierra Vista, AZ 85650. I had my trusty Winegard 7694A and pointed Northwest toward Tucson, fine-tuned and got 36 excellent channels but didn't get the 13's which includes MeTV. So, I simply replaced the Winegard antenna with this Xperts XPS-1500 and BOOM, I now also get channels 13-1 through 13-6. However, interestingly, with the RCA preamp, the 13's were glitchy. So, I reinstalled my Winegard LNA-200 Boost preamp and now no more glitches on the 13's. So, with the Xperts XPS-1500 and Winegard LNA-200 I get 42 solid channels (which is most everything there is to get) and I'm quite a distance from Tucson. Hey, Bro-migo, thanks again for your most excellent and informative videos. Among the very best of any kind!

@@AntennaMan Hey Ludwig Van Bro-thoven, I just clicked the link and sent a Bro-nation. Sorry, I should have done this long before as I discovered you a couple years ago, but, better late than never. And I just realized I have never "Subscribed". Fixed that also. Thanks again Bro-mano!
That's a really nice antenna, I would love to get one since I happen to be in an all-UHF area (no VHF stations, just UHF). Hey AntennaMan, just a suggestion in your next video, can you do a video about the recent DirecTV-Nexstar carriage dispute? It's been going on since July 2, 2023, and my local CBS affiliate (WMBD) happens to be owned by Nexstar. An antenna would come in handy to bypass the blackout on DirecTV. I would love to see a video explaining why antennas could help bypass carriage disputes on cable, satellite, or streaming providers for the over-the-air broadcast stations. Thank you for your antenna reviews as always.
I already made a video on this topic. Watch it below. Be sure to check out some of my other older videos as you likely missed more in addition to this one. th-cam.com/video/rppTzSP5NI4/w-d-xo.html
@@AntennaMan everyone should see the video. It was the tipping point for me to drop Comcast in January 2021. At the time you made the video, Comcast went from 9.99/month for local station access to 18.99/month. Fast forward to 2023 and now Comcast charges 24.99/month for local station access. Talk about greedy local station owners. As more and more people drop cable and satellite TV the price for cable, satellite, and streaming TV providers is going to get even more expensive, as the local station owners are going to jack up retransmission fees to make up for that lost revenue.
Ok so i stumbled on your videos tonight while researching a solution to my own antenna issues. I have a good amount of experience playing around with antennas throughout my life going back to the old analog days, but my issue lately has me kinda stumped for now, Im getting stronger channels now at full strength but at the cost of one typically reliable channel in the medium range, to elaborate I'm Currently running an older discontinued Mohu Sky 60 that has a built in preamp, despite the built in preamp ,i used to run a separate GE external outdoor preamp on this antenna and it worked great like that for a couple years, getting strong channels at 75% medium range channels at 40-50% untill the preamp burned up i lost all channels, So now im back to using just the mohu power inserter and i lost 1 important medium range channel, but stronger channels come in almost 100% (puzzeling) I do have a long RG6 cable run from the third floor roof top antenna to the basement where the power inserter is located then it all feeds into a basic two way splitter to two TVs. Basically im debating a couple things. Do i get a power splitter to amplify the signal from the preamped Mohu, or do i get a new Preamp like i used to run up by the antenba Or do i scrap everything and get a new antenna with new amplifier. Like maybe this range expert with an amplifier or Lastly i would love to see a video on amplification and how to know if you're over amplified or under amplified, i think you should do a video covering this topic and how to remedy it because it seems nobody ever seems to cover it in depth, beyond quickly stating that over amplification could be your issue if you're close to towers, but what if you need to amplify signal to get weaker channels in an area, but lose stronger channels? Theres got to be a way to hit a happy medium. Like using attenuators maybe? Also I'm wondering if its acceptable to run a preamp on the rooftop antenna then run a powered splitter in the basement or will that cause over amplified situation? Everywhere seems to imply using either a preamp or a power splitter/signal amplifier but not both together...

Well I went ahead and purchased the XPS-1500 to compare it to the Dat Boss LR. The DatBoss LR was way better at picking up fringe signals. I live 85 miles from the transmitting towers. The only way I can get reliable OTA TV is by using the DatBoss and a Next Gen TV. THe next gen signals are like double the current gen signals are far as the signal meters say.
@@coryengel I am not sure about your researched conclusion. Because the further out you go, the more the TV signals are subject to changes in the atmosphere, either for the better or worse. @@harryinoklahoma1866 Thank you! I enjoyed your comments. I live 76 miles from most of the Tulsa TV towers and tried a Televes Eclipse on them, mounted at 15 ft. It only got in 3 primary Tulsa channels regularly. Two of them were 2 and 6, probably from being on such high towers at around 1850 ft. tall. Tulsa channel 8 is the most powerful Tulsa station and also on a very high tower yet is among the slackers. But 8 is 80.5 miles away so I reckon reception is being adversely reflected by the curvature of the earth. So, to try to counter it, I might later decide to go with the bigger Televes you got. And put it up higher, of course. Anyway, it's kind of been fun playing around with TV reception from Tulsa. My Rabbitears says the channels are all tropo, so have to depend on cooperation from the atmosphere for the majority of them. Yes, I've noticed, too, the NexGen channels from Oklahoma City are stronger and always in the green. So, it will be interesting to see how good the NexGen channels come in when Tulsa finally starts them.
I tried this antenna out based on its higher gain readings than many others in Tylors reviews but my little televes dinova for some reason still picked up stronger signal and more channels. I am in a valley and it is very hilly and full of trees so this may be the reason. Location can make or break any antenna. There really is no "best" antenna. The guy that runs this company is a stellar person though. Customer service is the best there is for any antenna company.
Keep in mind that the Televes Dinova Mix has a preamplifier built in so if you're in a fair to weak signal location, it might work better than the Range Xperts antenna simply because of the amplifier pushing the signals through the coax compared to signal loss with the passive Range Xperts antenna.
Wondering if this antenna would be a good choice for me. There are 2 towers in my area each about 15 miles away and 109 degrees apart. All stations are broadcast on ch 14 and above. I'm not sure if I can get all the stations from both towers with one antenna, where to point it, or if I would need a rotator, or 2 antennas and combine them. Great video as always!
It would be better to buy a smaller antenna that has a wider gain pattern compared to this model if the towers are spaced out. If you would like me to take a look at your reception and recommend a specific model, sign up for my antenna recommendation service below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
I'm half tempted to get one of these for the house. We're on a hilltop, and want antenna and redundancy as a backup for DirecTV stream whenever we lose internet, and I mostly am interested in this because of its great gain on VHF, CBS 13 is about 45 mi away from us on VHF, and the antennas we've tried have not been able to get it. Plus, since it's owned by nextstar, we would be able to get it back during this dispute
If the CBS channel is on high VHF channel 13, this antenna should grab it. You just might need to use a TV tuner/signal meter as a guide to try different locations for the antenna until you find a spot where the CBS channel is reliably picked up. Sometimes moving an antenna as little as a foot or two can have a huge impact on reception. See video below. th-cam.com/video/1_Cy08x5qeY/w-d-xo.html
@@AntennaMan it actually broadcasts on VHF channel 10, and I can aim the antenna effectively do West, though I would experiment with a signal meter. The problem is, I don't know if I can justify this since there's only one VHF station around here that isn't Huntington PBS
I pickup WOWK 13 extremely well on custom self made 12 element antenna. It is tuned to the exact frequency the station broadcasted on prior to the last frequency change for them. Years ago I found a computer program that will give the dimensions to make a Yagi antenna for any frequency you select. I made it using 1 1/2" PVC for the main boom and 1/4" all-thread for the elements. It is literally just laying on the floor in my attic pointed in the correct direction. It also will pickup WSAZ and it's subchannels.
@@i_no_nutin I get the main WSAZ signal from the translator in Charleston, which I'm only a few miles from. I get everything but WOWK. One question though, are you actually getting WSAZ via ATSC 3.0, or you're getting the multiplexed 1.0 stations? I'm getting them all on ATSC 1.0 because I don't have any 3.0 equipment. Regardless, good to see somebody local
Doesn't the reception change based on temperature, humidity, and general weather? How can we know more precisely how this antenna performs compared to something like the Televes, Channel Master, or similar large outdoor antennas? It would be nice if you could keep the best performing indoor and outdoor antennas to compare directly with any new antenna you review. If the new antenna beats the previous best, then keep that one going forward.
Reception in my area is very consistent because I don't have a lot of trees around. For example, if you watch my video review of the Range Xperts antenna from two years ago, you'd see nearly identical signal levels. As far as comparing antennas on my channel goes, I actually test out multiple antennas in the same day. I also have a base antenna to double check and make sure the signal levels are consistent. Rest assured you can accurately compare the antennas I review on my channel.
In your scenario, how much more improvement is the new model vs the old? Again in your scenario, is the cost of buying new justified by the amount of improvement?
I like the heavy duty design with large 3/8" diameter elements. But this antenna is very short. Wouldn't I pull in very long distance VHF stations much better with larger antenna?

You can see a head to head comparison with the Televes models by watching my video reviews of them. I even made an outdoor antenna reviews playlist to make the videos easier to find. Hopefully people will stop asking me how this antenna compares to other antennas I already reviewed. The videos are all right there. th-cam.com/play/PLa4W1QMIBkFHdxAhcntyCBjkZlOLCxn74.html
I’ve updated my comment to provide the information that people really want. The reason people keep asking you for the information is because you’re making it hard to find.
@@coryengel @AntennaMan Agreed. Each video shows a summary of the results for two other random antennas, but drags out the results of antenna the video is about by going over them individually. I think people just want to see the percentages of the antennas all together and isn't going to take the time write down each percentage of each channel for each antenna so they can compare them. Maybe a spreadsheet with each antenna, it's results, and a link to the video would be easier!
Have you ever thought about or done a video for RVs? Wondering if there are smaller but good antennas that we could take to the different parks that we visit during the summer. I do see a lot of people with the cheap directional one that you don't recommend.
Antenna Man, would adding more elements and making the reflector larger and use copper instead of aluminum make this antenna into an ultra unit ??? Thanks Tylar.
Great stuff man love all your videos. Could this antenna be used in an attic? I know it's pretty big but if there was space to mount it would it be acceptable to do so?
Tyler, after watching many of your videos, I am about ready to cut the cord....however....my house has a metal roof and I am hesitant that it will interfere with any antenna I may want to use....which is the main reason I have not cut from satellite. Any thoughts?
There are several antennas, however, there are two cities near me, Colorado Springs is 27 miles and Pueblo is 24 miles, so I am between those two. I lived in small town, not too far from those two cities. I was wondering which antennas would be better for me. Please let me know before I purchase.
I paid to get the expert help for my dad (who's between markets) in Indiana (memba?). Followed your recipe with great success! Thanks AntennaMan. I'm going to nab the new Hoosier antenna for my garage!!
Ok, this is a P.S. Get the SiliconDust LPF-608M LTE Filter, I added it , and man, what an improvement. I mean, I was blown away at how much better things are. He reviews it, but I don't think he likes the links in chat but it's worth it
@@AntennaMan NP man, I just wanted to let people know how good that thing works. I recommend it to about 5 people, and no one has said it was terrible. Most picked up no less than 10 chs, and the signal cleared up.
Part 1 of a four home antenna upgrade project. Had to wait until all four properties were completed & Tested. This model was installed in Orangeburg, SC, which is 41 miles SW of Columbia, SC transmitter farms of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. Had an old 13ft long Radio Shack Antennacraft that's at least 20 y/old. With no preamp, it struggled to get the Fox station, especially on overcast days. Purchased this beast, added an adjustable preamp, and the channels were barely watchable. Removed it and now EVERYTHING comes in crystal clear in all conditions. It's hooked to a Hdhomerun flex duo, and running perfectly 👍🏽
I may give this model a close look. The CM "Advantage 100" is exactly double the price, and would be a lot more awkward to set up. I question whether it's twice the antenna. Though the Clearstream Max V Pro is $120 and stocked locally, the build appearance has me suspicious. I have both bookmarked and will consider carefully.
I can't do outside, don't have attic. Need best inside antenna recommendation. We live kind of bottom of hill. I have used an amplified RCA flat antenna and one with rabbit ears that only pics up a couple stations. Live Raleigh Nc. My TV is a roku tcl. It does sit several feet from a window.
I watch your channel occasionally. Recently I had a new roof put on our house and I had the fellas get rid of the old, unsightly antenna. We get cable and I watch apps on my smart TV but I would still like some channels that I did lose when they scrapped my old antenna. I did have them save the wires - albeit they did cut, shorten them, and wrapped them so they are hidden off of one of the corners of the second story. What small, “cheaper” antenna would you recommend? Like I said - I want to stay in the antenna game but it isn’t a priority. By the way - I live in a rural area but certainly not off the grid - 20 miles or so from Youngstown, OH and 50 miles or so from Pittsburgh, PA.
I can't recommend an antenna without looking up a reception report to see how strong or weak the signals are. If you would like me to do so, sign up for my antenna recommendation service below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
Greetings. I've been watching your videos for awhile now and love your hardware reviews but now I have a question. For years I have been using an old pre-digital signal antenna that has worked fairly well receiving local signals around 20-30 miles away in Colorado Springs but can also receive some Denver stations 50-60 miles away off the back side of my antenna. This RangeXperts model looks intriguing but I've often wondered how difficult it would be to gang two antennas to one coax feedline with each pointing in different directions. Any hints/suggestions?
Not to get too far off topic, but something I could use would be some advice on what the best coax is. Right now I’m using some RG6 rated for satellite use, but I don’t know if it’s durable enough to use with an antenna rotator. Most have solid inner conductors which may limit the amount of flexing. Perhaps the RG6 could be coupled to a flexible coax pigtail.
As far as I know, I found a great chart that shows the losses in different RG coaxial cables per 100 feet at selected frequencies from 1 MHz in the AM band up to 1 GHz in the UHF band. If I recall correctly, it said RG-6 and RG-11 were the least lossy; on the other hand, RG-58 and RG-174 (which I assume is what these piece-of-crap scam antennas use) are significantly lossier.
TYLAR, do you think Range Xpersts will increase the antenna range even further ??? I have a hunting camp in Tioga County which could use a little more UMPH gain. Thanks vf
Do others occasional get channels in from much further away? If so how far? I recently installed this antenna on top of my house (single story) & often do new channel scans. Well today I noticed new channels & realized I'm picking up a channel from 186 miles from the transmitter & it's solid at about 60% at the moment. I live in Northern Indiana (Zip 46534) & the transmitter I'm picking up is WCMU PBS located in central Michigan. Transmitter coordinates: 43°45′5.1″N 85°12′46.2″W. It won't last but thought it was interesting, I didn't realize such distances were even possible.
You are only getting that TV station dude to tropo conditions that will likely be gone by the end of the day. See video below for an explanation: th-cam.com/video/BYuDBL3-duI/w-d-xo.html
@@AntennaMan Thanks Tyler I'll check that video out! It's already out btw, I knew it wouldn't last but thought it was really interesting/cool as I didn't realize it was even possible. And thanks for all the videos, they helped me get things setup correctly from the start & I'm subscribed for more.
Yes but it has to be done a very specific way or you will mess up your TV reception. I offer setup guidance for a small fee below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
I thought this antenna was actually junk because it was advertised on TH-cam and all over the internet back in 2020 to 2021 when I was researching antennas. Tyler you helped me with setting up a stacked set up with the RCA antenna I chose that couldn't get WHTM's then very trash signal by adding the stellar labs 30-2476. It has been since working flawlessly except for a little bit of an issue with wind load on very windy days causing some pixelation. I'm wondering if the vhf/uhf version would be a good replacement for both antennas since WHTM almost doubled their signal last October. Or if the UHf version which is smaller than the combo RCA antenna would work with the 30-2476 and have less wind load?
You can certainly try this antenna. The VHF performance is a bit less than the Stellar Labs VHF antenna but if WHTM improve their signal it might no longer be a problem. UHF performance on this is much better than the RCA.
@AntennaMan yeah being it's more optimized for the current uhf band is a plus. Though the RCA antennas uhf section does well with 100% signal strength and quality on my hdhomerun flex4k. The Stellar labs 30-2476 now brings in whtm the same. One part of me wants to tinker with it one part says it works leave it alone. I suppose if anything should be damaged by storms or something like that I have lots of idea already.
I ran across Range Xperts a few years ago when searching for antennas. Their antennas look like they have a good build. Range Xperts still over exaggerates mileage performance. The Mini Metro antenna could be a good antenna for those in medium to strong signal areas, but there are no specs on the product page. I moved to a single family home and placed my antennas in the attic. They work fairly well there, but they might not after I install a radiant barrier to reduce the attic's temperature so I might need an antenna that can go on the roof.
The signal strength readings from this new version aren't much different than on the older version that you reviewed previously. In fact it looks like WTXF 31 decreased a little. I wonder if optimizing antennas for the repack has much of a real world effect on UHF performance.
More optimized UHF elements wouldn't make much of a difference at my location because the signals are relatively strong. Had the signals been weak, you would see a difference.
That antenna looks pretty weird with a 3 element reflector located behind an 8 element reflector! Can you explain how that cam possibly work? Also you charts compared it to a Chinese model that doesn't work at all so you should do it with a different one that can actually pick up a signal!
Simple, the smaller 8 elements reflect the UHF signals and the larger 4 elements reflect the VHF signals. If you would like to see how this antenna compares to better antennas I reviewed in the past beyond the previous two, you can do so by watching my other antenna review videos.
@@AntennaMan Thanks for the quick reply. I lived in one place where I started out about the same height but found the sweet spot was a couple of feet lower. Hey, whatever works, right?
As an experiment I'm trying to see if I can figure out a way to pull in Chicago lands TV stations from my house here in Peoria, IL. (Approximately 160 miles.) You think this would do the trick? I have a clear northeastern view.
I'd like to see a direct comparison between this antenna and the Televes DAT BOSS Mix LR Low-VHF/High-VHF/UHF. Just looking at the long low VHF element on the Televes, I have a feeling it would be better for low VHF, but unfortunately, Tyler (excuse me ANTENNA MAN!) doesn't seem to have a nearby low VHF station to use in his tests.
You can find a direct comparison of it by watching my video review of it below. That's what my other videos are for. Compare any two antennas you'd like. th-cam.com/video/C7L1k9dAqGs/w-d-xo.html
@@ajlenze8 It depends on the situation. With a shorter coax cable it did work a bit better. With a long coax cable, the Televes LR might work better since the built-in preamp would prevent signal loss in the long cable run.
My parents need a new antenna for their home. They had their antenna since they started the digital system. Since they got a new TV the antenna it seems harder for them to get good reception now. What antenna would you recommend highly for someone that lives out in the boons with lots of trees around? Most of the TV broadcast channels are coming from the same direction (Atlanta Georgia). They live roughly 50 miles from Atlanta Georgia. Your advice would be greatly appreciated to help me help my parents.
In order to accurately recommend an antenna for you, I would need to run a reception report at your exact location. I offer this service below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
@@JoeXTheXJuggalo1 Understanding that I can't make an accurate antenna recommendation without running a reception report, this antenna might be best for Atlanta channels since most broadcast on the UHF band: amzn.to/3OuzlHM
@@AntennaMan thanks for the information. I do understand and respect that you have to make money yourself to offer your services. My parents and I just can't afford it.
It's very unlikely you're getting channels from 107 miles away. Most likely the TV stations operate broadcast repeaters in your area that are much closer
I'm in a rural area with decent reception in 2 different directions. Would like to point 2 separate antennas in the perspective areas. Is there a signal combining device you recommend? Is it simply a splitter, possibly an antenna that will recover from opposing directions? Maybe 360 deg.? Thanks
I'm curious about this versus the Televes 149884, as it's been 2 years since you recommended that to me and I have not bought it since life happens. Would you still recommend that over this, or the other way around?
If you signed up for my antenna recommendation service, send me a follow up email so I can look at your reception again. I can't recommend an antenna without looking at the reception report.

Does this antenna work long range 70 miles away?
Thanks for the recommendation. Your review was spot on. Saved me from buying something that would have been poorer quality.
How does this antenna compare to a Gary Hoverman or a channel master double EXTREMEtenna 80 ??? Thank you for your time Antenna Man. Peace vf
How did her car look after softball size hail?
We live in a neighborhood that frowns on outside antennas. Curious is this would work in my attic. We are between Phoenix and Tucson and getting channels here is tough
@jeffreythomason1113 they can frown all they want. They cannot however frown on the Telecommunication act of 1996. It specifically mentions HOA's and how the act supercedes any rules.

I figured you'd get more channels in Davidson. In in Clarkston and got 42 with it sitting on the ground before installing it. Do you have it pointed to Detroit or the Tri Cities?
I upgraded to the Range Xperts long range antenna because of a week channel reception. Very pleased, solved my problems, would highly recommend.
Great to hear, thanks for sharing!
After much research, I purchased this top rated antenna. Very happy with this antenna.

Tyler, glad to see that you were able to help this small business out... Cheers J
How far are you from the stations for all that good reception. I'm 76 miles from the Tulsa stations.
@Boomerlake I am almost exactly 60 miles. At 76, you're almost to the point where the curvature of the earth will have a bad impact on your reception.
I have one also. It replaced an old Radio Shack vu-190, pulls stations 50 from two directions in my case! 👍🏽
My neighbor put this antenna up 6 months ago and he loves the unit. Antenna man you are correct, this is a great antenna with a great price.
bought this antenna for our cabin in the wooded Maine mountains....it pulls in more stations than my old antenna did with half the size...amazing range
Thanks for sharing your experience with it!
All the free canadian Trudeau government propaganda.
I just bought the range expert and hooked it up...great results here in Ohio...thanks for the review..
I'm curious... What were the other four antennas that didn't perform as well as the Range Xperts antenna?
You have a really nice setup.
It's nice to see a good antenna reviewed. Cool.
Awesome I'll have to recommend this antenna to people in my town having trouble with signals. 👍
It’s not made in America. The company is based in America.
Thanks!

Definately going to be getting one of these!

Like maybe this range expert with an amplifier or
Lastly i would love to see a video on amplification and how to know if you're over amplified or under amplified, i think you should do a video covering this topic and how to remedy it because it seems nobody ever seems to cover it in depth, beyond quickly stating that over amplification could be your issue if you're close to towers, but what if you need to amplify signal to get weaker channels in an area, but lose stronger channels? Theres got to be a way to hit a happy medium. Like using attenuators maybe? Also I'm wondering if its acceptable to run a preamp on the rooftop antenna then run a powered splitter in the basement or will that cause over amplified situation? Everywhere seems to imply using either a preamp or a power splitter/signal amplifier but not both together...
This is good news for me! My wineguard took a fall and was destroyed.. I think I will try this antenna as a low cost replacement !
JUST bought it, thanks Tyler. try it out. About a few questions to ask an expert! :)

Well I went ahead and purchased the XPS-1500 to compare it to the Dat Boss LR. The DatBoss LR was way better at picking up fringe signals. I live 85 miles from the transmitting towers.
I have been using this antenna for the last 4 years.
It's a great antenna!
@@KanawhaCountyWX I don't have any ATSC 3.0 receivers at this time. Everything is on ATSC 1.0
@@AntennaMan - Excellent. Thanks.
Here’s the missing info: The Range Xperts XPS-1500 outperformed the Televes DATBOSS LR Mix in signal strength by an average of 9.3%. It bested the Televes model for 4/5 stations, and equaled the 5th. This is despite the fact that the XPS-1500 is 35% shorter and has no preamp.
It looks like a good sector reflector 🪞
Have you ever thought about or done a video for RVs? Wondering if there are smaller but good antennas that we could take to the different parks that we visit during the summer. I do see a lot of people with the cheap directional one that you don't recommend.
Already did, and it flopped so I unlisted it. You can find it below: th-cam.com/video/hLWa8h6Lzm4/w-d-xo.html
Antenna Man, would adding more elements and making the reflector larger and use copper instead of aluminum make this antenna into an ultra unit ??? Thanks Tylar.
Replying to @victoryfirst2878:
**ALL TV ANTENNAS ARE GARBAGE!!**
He reviews it, but I don't think he likes the links in chat but it's worth it
Sometimes TH-cam removes links thinking they are spam. I don't remove comments unless they are personal attacks against me.
Can you mount this in the attic? I am about 50 miles from the cities with reception.
Went from 77 channels to 119 channels and 11 if I play with the antenna some but still pixels at points
I didn't buy the antenna, i just watched your videos for fun
Talk with @onmyworkbench7000, they seem to have a setup like you'd like to create.
Thanks vf
Awesome channel👍
New to this cutting cord as of sept 1 , can I use the cable that does to the tv now for the antenna hookup , thanks Jerry
Yes but it has to be done a very specific way or you will mess up your TV reception. I offer setup guidance for a small fee below:
www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
I suppose if anything should be damaged by storms or something like that I have lots of idea already.
i've got an 8 bay antenna in my attic now, wonder how well this one would do in the attic as well?
Will this work in a valley area with power transmission lines near by?
@@AntennaMan That makes sense. Thanks for taking the time to explain that.
When you test outdoor antennas what height are they at? I know sometimes the higher up it is set at isn't always better but I'm just curious. Thanks.
Outdoor antennas are tested right above the peak of my roof about 30 feet above the ground.
@@AntennaMan Thanks for the quick reply. I lived in one place where I started out about the same height but found the sweet spot was a couple of feet lower. Hey, whatever works, right?
thanks i just bought one
اخبرنا كيف الاشاره هل هي جيده وكيف اطلب واحدا منها ؟؟
I wonder if some antennas are more directional than others ? A lot if this a antenna stiff is PFM to me 🤔
As an experiment I'm trying to see if I can figure out a way to pull in Chicago lands TV stations from my house here in Peoria, IL. (Approximately 160 miles.)
You think this would do the trick?
He does. WPVI DT 6ABC on RF6
@@AntennaMan Am I right in saying this seems to pick up UHF AND high VHF slightly better than the Televes?
@@ajlenze8 It depends on the situation. With a shorter coax cable it did work a bit better. With a long coax cable, the Televes LR might work better since the built-in preamp would prevent signal loss in the long cable run.
@@AntennaMan Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. You are indeed the antenna MAN!
love to see an 2024 upgrade please

This antenna has worked very well for me and the price was very reasonable.
Is it weird that I only turn on my TV to see if the one channel I only get 3 days a year is on, whenever you post a new video?
I live in Riverton Wyoming and get the tv signal 107 miles away in Casper.I still using the cheap 18$ junk antenna from EBAY 5 years now Clear signal.
Thanks
I was considering putting up a new antenna but if ATSC 3.0 is going to encrypt all OTA then it isn't worth buying an antenna.
Has anybody replaced a clear stream 4max with this antenna and what were the results
Is this an upgrade over the older model, for Canada too?
I live in north Alabama between Huntsville and Birmingham. Could I put one of these each direction to pick up both broadcasting stations ?
I'm curious about this versus the Televes 149884, as it's been 2 years since you recommended that to me and I have not bought it since life happens.
Would you still recommend that over this, or the other way around?
