The show has tons of codes and secrets in it. There's a code at the end of the credits of every episode. (two in season 2). The first seasons codes are just an additional joke, but the shorts that happen between seasons and the season two episodes codes are much more elaborite and hint at future events. If you want to try and solve them yourselves, the first clue is hidden in the backwards whisper on the title screen. Three different codes are used in the first season, and they are combined in the second season along with a fourth more complex code. This show might have been for kids but it really rewarded folks who paid close attention. Not all, but most text seen on screen can be read usually. There's very few instances of 'squiggles' or gibberish to fill space. Watch the backgrounds too, pay close attention to some characters, and you'll find some appealing theaories forming as you go along.
Despite being only 2 seasons long, this show had so many delays that it started right before I started high school and ended my senior year. I also have a brother 7 years younger than me, so it was just the perfect show to watch together, especially because of the wonderful sibling relationship at its core. Anyway, I'm glad y'all are watching and I'm sure you will enjoy it a lot.
Discovered this show in my 30's and binged the whole thing in a weekend with some homies when we discovered it. Seriously one of the greatest shows, not just cartoons, of all time.
What a pleasant surprise! This show legitimately has some of the very _funniest_ animated gags I've ever seen, all while boasting a genuinely intriguing mystery. Y'all are in for a blast!
You're pretty spot on, the show's writer Alex Hirsch is a twin himself, and the core idea of Gravity Falls is based on the summers he and his sister spent with their grandfather as kids 😉 I myself was a bit older than the target audience, like late teens/young adult, but the show still really captivated me back then, so I'm very excited to see you guys go through this!
This show is an experience of a lifetime, and deserves to be watched by everyone. In its case the target audience is everyone old enough to get it, and the older you are - the more you get. Truly one of the gems of animation, and I’m mad at everyone who promotes "cartoons are for kids"
Okay, hate to be that fan, but gonna be that fan: technically 🤓, they spent some summers at their great-aunt's place in Oregon. However, Stan here is based on their *grandfather* Stan, who to hear Alex tell it, was quite the character. So yeah, based on his and his twin sister Ariel's experiences, but some mash-ups going on with respect to exactly what he's drawing on for it.
@@gryphonvert Knowledge is never not appreciated 👍(Well, maybe sometimes) But that's interesting, I never heard it told like that- Guess I fell victim to fandom telephone back in the day
@@kaialone I think that it's more a case of partial info coming out earlier, and then Alex may have clarified somewhere (I don't specifically remember where now) in a source that not everyone in the fandom would have seen; and possibly a good bit after the show ended. So like, we knew that Stan was based on his grandpa Stan fairly early, but through things like tweets. But the info about he and Ariel having gone to a great-aunt's house in Oregon came out separately; maybe in a tweet, maybe in the DVD commentaries (?), maybe in an interview. So it wasn't unreasonable for fans to conclude based on knowledge that they had at the time that the nostalgia was based on time spent with their Grandpa Stan -- and in fact, I'd still say that's *true*, because it seems pretty clear from things that Alex has said that, having decided to use Grandpa Stan as a bit of a basis for Stan, the time they spent with him would naturally have influenced the story. It's only the addition of the great-aunt in Oregon that's "new" info. To satisfy my own curiosity, I'll have to see if I can track down where and when we found that out!
Side note, but I think there’s another reason that Alex Hirsch does a number of the voices which I saw someone claim: as a pure creative, he wouldn’t have gotten as much payment for his work on the show… He’s actually good at some of the stuff he does so it’s far from distracting. One of the reasons the show had only two seasons was also to avoid burnout.
Yeah, I think it's key to know going in that the show wasn't cancelled, and Disney didn't demand it be concluded early. In fact, Disney wanted Alex to keep going with it. Alex always intended to tell the story of this one summer, and then be done. Season One took extra time to produce, and he and others on the team were facing serious burnout. They took a break after S1 was done, did a road trip of tourist traps in the Pacific Northwest to get more inspiration (there's a mini documentary about it; but don't watch it before finishing the series), and he decided at that time that they could do ONE more season, at the level of quality he wanted. So it being two seasons was entirely his decision. (Given the way Disney has cancelled shows, and especially in this age of Netflix limiting shows, I think it's important to note this.)

the regular show creator and the creator of gravity falls both got their starts on The marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack. that show kind of birthed the 2010s style of animation seen on CN and disney channel.
The shows creator, Alex Hirsh, also voices Grunkle Stan, Soos, the Gnome leader, the 8th and half president, Old Man Mcgucket, and an evil triangle named Bill in the series, among several extras.
Twin Peaks + The X-Files + The Simpsons, for kids. (I feel like the biggest similarity to the Simpsons is in the way the show builds out the town and its townspeople and makes them recurring characters who develop over time. By the time you get to the end of the series you're genuinely fond of a lot of them. Also, in the second season, a Simpsons writer comes on board, too.). Regarding Twin Peaks -- without spoilers, I will say that there's a character who we'll meet later, who Alex wanted to get David Lynch to voice, but Lynch didn't respond; so Alex voiced the char, and did a sort of Lynch impression. And at the end, we get another Twin Peaks connection in an actor who does a guest voice in the finale.
alex hirsh does quite a few voices for this show including stan & soos! he voices the main gnome in this episode as well. and yes alex has a twin sister named ariel so dipper & mabel are a nod to the two of them with grunkle stan being a nod to their grandpa stan :)
I'm 47, and i remember recommending this show to so many adults when it was out. I have no idea how i discovered it, but I'm so glad i did. It's an awesome show.
This show was absolutely perfectly timed for my family. It was something that me and both of my brothers could ALWAYS agree on. I was like 8 when it first came out and my brothers were 10 and 13. We watched it every time it was on no matter what and we had gone theory crazy with it by the end 😂
Something I really miss about this show specifically is that it never talked down to its audience. Like you said, it’s obviously made for the kids but it still takes them seriously. The writers trusted that children were smart enough to understand what they were trying to say and that’s what made it so re-watchable as I got older. It’s also what made it, and other cartoon greats, stand out in the 2010s. It’s entertainment and it’s fun and the lessons it imparted stuck with me and many other kids’ childhoods
I’m so damn happy you’re reacting to this series. It is one of the best “all ages” animated shows of that era. How exciting to be able to live vicariously through all of you as you go on this journey!
You asked, so I'm going to tell you. Stan is voiced by Alex Hirsch, the creator and voice actor. He did many voices on the show, including Soos and McGucket, and has also done voices on Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, Phineas and Ferb, etc.
Oh you guys are in for a treat. Can't wait to see more videos from you guys on this show. Also in case you didn't know. The creator of Gravity Falls (Alex Hirsch) isn't just the voice of Grunkle Stan, but also Soos, a few of the gnomes, and several characters down the line. Keep up the great stuff.
Welcome to Gravity Falls! Can't wait for you guys to unravel the mysteries of the town as well as catch humor that goes above children's heads where us adults could laugh about. lolol
8:23 the only zombie romcom i know is warm bodies, and i REALLY hope that's the one you're referring to bc i love that movie an unreasonable amount lol 😅
It would've been cool to have a cartoon like this when i was a kid. When I was young, there were shows like Twin Peaks and The X-Files. This is a nice bridge for kids to the weird and kinda scary.
Glad you all got started on this. One of two Disney animated shows of this century I bothered to watch that isn’t Star Wars or Marvel. Really surprised me with the writing and humor and quirky characters. Like a comedic, family friendly version of Stranger Things. And best Disney villain ever! Look out for those encoded messages at the end of the credits Started in 2012 and lasted for two seasons but its schedule was so erratic it didn’t end til February 2016! I have a nine year old beagle named Mabel. Wish I could show you pics. I suggested the name for NON-entertainment reasons. My brother was watching G.F at the time and agreed with my name suggestion. I didn’t see the show until Spring 2020. My Mabel and the show’s are both irresistible!
This was the first video that popped up on my app and I immediately clicked it. Yay! Re: the humor on this show, you're all going to appreciate it. And the fun facts will be dropped a LOT in your comments section by some very dedicated fans along the way (if I don't get to share it first).
"Tourist Trapped": Summer is over, so it's the right time to get on the bus to Oregon and spend time at The Mystery Shack in "Gravity Falls." It's an interesting roller coaster ride through a "Y7" Disney cartoon.;) 4:02 Roll film.
Love this show!!! I watched this when i was on paternity leave during covid in 2020, and had a great time with it... You guys will love it....cant wait for this one to unfold
This is a brilliant show. One of the few things in this format (half hour TV comedies) that totally works but is also ambitious. This, Community, The Good Place and Rick & Morty.
You mentioned Alex Hirsch putting something personal into this... he has a twin sister, and the twins in this show are somewhat based on their relationship.
Oh my god this show is perfect for yall, especially morgan 😆. I didnt watch it till like 2016 i think but im so glad i did. I heard it was supposed to be more seasons but it was the creators first ever project and doing something so big as his first story wore him out.
I’m 27 and was in college when it finished. I love Gravity Falls and am very glad that the Book of Bill has come out recently and revitalized the fandom! Check out Book of Bill once you finish watching the show!
Also, if there’s a voice you wonder who did it, it was probably Alex Hirsch. Also, look out for the codes at the end of each episode, after the credits! There’s translations online, if you want to know what it says.
I clicked on this the second I saw it. I'm very excited to watch you watch this! I'm happy you liked it. Get ready, because this and Adventure Time set the stage for the "kids shows" of the 2010s. A lot of them were more mature than many of the adult cartoons of this decade. Buckle up, this is going to be fun ride.
i was the same age as the characters during the final (13) and i am 21 now so this show was very much in an important time for my growth. and i would like you guys to know that when you finish the series there is a special called between the pines with the VA for multiple characters and creator of the show alex hirsh
Great series choice guys, this show goes hand-in-hand with The Owl House because the creators of the two shows either are or were dating at some point, and Alex Hirsch voices a number of characters if you ever think about checking it out. 🔥🔥🔥
Oh awesome to see more people hop onto this show! I was 13 when the show started airing in 2012 and was watching it come out at the older end of the target audience and it was super fun! I'm about to be 26 now so its a real nostalgic watch nowadays!
gravity falls started airing when i was 11 and finished just a few weeks before my 15th birthday! i’m 23 now, nearly 24. it’s such an iconic show that has forever stuck with me and i know has influenced my creative endeavors immensely
@SeanTanktop I have a leaf blower that can reverse. It comes with a bag. It’s more complicated than flipping a switch but they exist and come in handy in certain situations. I use mine in reverse when cleaning up pine needles and the clippings when I trim the shrubs in the front of my house which are in garden bed type thing that is covered entirely of these small decorative white rocks. So it is a pain to try to pick out every little thing from the rocks. Where as using the vacuum setting on the leaf blower it’s a breeze.
Oh. Oh you are in for a TREAT. This series is AMAZING from beginning to end. Wonder if you noticed the weird guy in the gray jumpsuit behind the bush when the mega-gnome got to the Mystery Shack?.... Weird..
Im 20 now, but I was in 2nd grade when this show came out. Still to this day, one of my favorite shows of all time. Most people my age love this show and watched it as a kid. I'd say pretty much everyone from like 16 to 26 knows this show. It was extremely popular, even after it finished in 2016.
Just so you guys know you can get leaf blowers with a suck function they have collection bags under them for collection. I have one but granted I don’t really use it for that but they do exist.
my sister and i watched this show as kids. we related a lot to dipper and mabels relationship. i related a lot to dipper's curiosity and social anxiety and my sister related to mabels mabelness. we plan on getting matching tattoos of their pine tree and shooting star symbols . i remember watching the show when it first aired and i was around 10 and i was starting highschool when it finally ended. my sister and i watched the finale when it aired and it felt likd the end of an important era in my childhood. i was super into the decoding and theorizing and my sister was super into the jokes and the characters. to this day its still something that we bond over
Super excited for this! Gravity Falls is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. Like ATLA, it starts a little more childish and each episode is its own story but around the end of season 1 it gets more mature and the storylines are more interconnected from episode to episode.
Dustin's pretty on the money with his age guess for Gravity Falls fans. I'm going on 26 years old in a couple months. Gravity Falls was one of my favorite shows from 8th grade into high school. Also, I actually went to the same high school as Dana Terrace, one of the main artists on the Gravity Falls & ex gf of the shows creator. They came to visit once when I was a junior & I couldn't believe it lmaoo
Oh this is a fun one! Y'all will have a good time. One of the thing that made this show very fun when it was running - it's actually full of hidden messages in the form of codes and ciphers and backmasking. If you hear something that sounds like backward speech, try playing it back. If you see a sequence of letters or numbers, try to decode them. People were really playing the red string board home game with this one! For example, There's a backmasked message at the end of the opening of this episode that helps to decode the cipher at the end of the episode. Some episodes have a lot of hidden messages - sometimes jokes, sometimes plot-relevant clues and foreshadowing. Alex Hirsh based Dipper and Mabel on himself and his sister. Which is why Mabel is such an excellently accurate 12 year old girl - Lisa Frank glitter unicorn aesthetic, permanently horny, and ready to throw down. (And yes, you will hear Patton Oswalt in this show! Good call!)
You guys are in for an amazing ride! _Gravity Falls_ is one the Holy Trinity of outstanding Disney animated series from the 2010's era that pushed creative boundaries and launched an amazingly creative fanbase that remains large and active to this day. I also know you guys probably won't look into it while watching, but there's several hidden codes and freeze-frame moments in each episode along with some short-form episodes between seasons. They're completely optional, but really enhance the series' world. I don't necessarily looking through the _Gravity Falls_ wiki for the answers since most pages are loaded with spoilers from people that solved the codes years ago, but I'm sure you'll get some people in the comments that provide them without ruining the viewing experience. The big code for this one is in the intro song with a reversed message that says "STAN IS NOT WHAT HE SEEMS." It's a gentle way to introduce the viewer-involved mystery element and prime them for the more difficult stuff later on. Enjoy you time in _Gravity Falls_ and, when you guys are done with this one, I highly recommend starting on _The Owl House_ or _Amphibia_ next as their creators worked on this series as some of the storyboard artists, writers, and animators. You'll find a lot of the heart and humor of _Gravity Falls_ present in those two as well. Plus, there's a very strong fan belief all three are part of a shared universe and it doesn't feel too far outside the realm of plausibility.
8:26 “Warm Bodies”? I remember that being announced right at the height of “Twilight” fandom. We all assumed it would be like that but actually pretty funny light movie.
OK. Just for giggles. I have a leaf blower that goes in reverse and mulches leaves, dumping them in a catcher bag. I've never attempted to use it as a training device or gnome defense.
The show was pitched as a kid-friendly cross of The Simpsons, Twin Peaks, and the X-Files, and honestly, I think the show lives up to that pitch. Hope y’all enjoy it.

I don't know if you figured it out already, but the zombie romcom that you were thinking of is "Warm Bodies".
i was the same age as the characters during the final (13) and i am 21 now so this show was very much in an important time for my growth. and i would like you guys to know that when you finish the series there is a special called between the pines with the VA for multiple characters and creator of the show alex hirsh
Grumpy uncle 😂
This is in the same verse of Rick and Morty. They’re connected by specific scenes within the series.😊
Great series choice guys, this show goes hand-in-hand with The Owl House because the creators of the two shows either are or were dating at some point, and Alex Hirsch voices a number of characters if you ever think about checking it out. 🔥🔥🔥
I knew I loved this series with the bait and switch with Norman's reveal with the obvious Twilight references of vampires in Oregon.
Oh awesome to see more people hop onto this show! I was 13 when the show started airing in 2012 and was watching it come out at the older end of the target audience and it was super fun! I'm about to be 26 now so its a real nostalgic watch nowadays!
The greatest theme song of any show I've ever seen.
YES!!! I love this series and the fact you guys are doing it made my day 😊
Y'all pulled a lot from the reverse vacuum. Very nice
If any of you are fond of solving puzzles, keep your eyes peeled for some fun
The zombie rom com I think you're thinking of was Warm Bodies with Nicholas Hoult
OH HELL YES, havent been able to follow a reaction series from yall in a little while but im SO down for this
One of the greatest of all time 😍🤘
Oh boy, fresh Gravity falls reactions to watch 😃
gravity falls started airing when i was 11 and finished just a few weeks before my 15th birthday! i’m 23 now, nearly 24. it’s such an iconic show that has forever stuck with me and i know has influenced my creative endeavors immensely
Been waiting for this for two years!
Fun fact: There are secret codes you can decipher at the end of every episode. It's usually the last of the credits
Oh wow I didn’t realize you guys hadn’t seen this yet! Awesome!
Im 34 n love the show and worm bodies is the movie u where thinking of
The hidden ciphers!!!
Oh. Oh you are in for a TREAT. This series is AMAZING from beginning to end. Wonder if you noticed the weird guy in the gray jumpsuit behind the bush when the mega-gnome got to the Mystery Shack?.... Weird..
4:42: Oh. Oh boy!
Damn i just finished someone elses reaction series to this. REWIND TIME LETS GET IT!!
Love this show. Looking forward to seeing if you guys do to.
OMG u guys are some of my favorite reactors and this is one of my fav shows!!!
my sister and i watched this show as kids. we related a lot to dipper and mabels relationship. i related a lot to dipper's curiosity and social anxiety and my sister related to mabels mabelness. we plan on getting matching tattoos of their pine tree and shooting star symbols .
i remember watching the show when it first aired and i was around 10 and i was starting highschool when it finally ended. my sister and i watched the finale when it aired and it felt likd the end of an important era in my childhood. i was super into the decoding and theorizing and my sister was super into the jokes and the characters. to this day its still something that we bond over
Super excited for this! Gravity Falls is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. Like ATLA, it starts a little more childish and each episode is its own story but around the end of season 1 it gets more mature and the storylines are more interconnected from episode to episode.
I BEEN WAITEN FOR THIS ONE!
Yessss I'm so here for this series reaction!!
I’m so excited that you guys are watching this. Gravity Falls is a fantastic show!
The Lost levels of secrets in this show is so fun to follow if you're so inclined.
Good call!)
I'm so happy you guys are watching Gravity Falls, it's so good, enjoy.
Surprised you hadn't seen it before, get ready for one of the most fun rides ever aired on tv
Hell yeah! I’ve been waiting for this one!
The zombie 'romcom' you thought of was probably Warm Bodies. It was actually a pretty entertaining movie.
OK. Just for giggles. I have a leaf blower that goes in reverse and mulches leaves, dumping them in a catcher bag.
I've never attempted to use it as a training device or gnome defense.
I'm so hyped for that. One of my favorite shows :D
Wow I can't believe they're about to Gravity *Falls* in love with this show
Such a fun show awesome to see yall watchin'
yesss so excited for this journey, it’s gonna be a banger
Warm Bodies is the name of the zombie romcom you were thinking of.
The show was pitched as a kid-friendly cross of The Simpsons, Twin Peaks, and the X-Files, and honestly, I think the show lives up to that pitch. Hope y’all enjoy it.
the INSTANT clocking of Bi Wendy is Wild. yall will like this show, it's got a lot under the sruface
