In defense of our dumbass blond king, when he referred to himself as 'daddy', he genuinely meant it in a familial way. He considers the whole club a family, with him and the vice president as the parents. Before he developed a crush on Haruhi, he was wholehearted treating her as a daughter/little sister. Chalk it up to his abandonment issues.
ALSO! I'm sure someone has already said it, but none of the boys are actually queer, the twins are not actually incestuous, they are all just playing up to tropes for the titillation of the girls who come visit the club. Also, the tiny one is actually the oldest. They're just acting out scenes and themes for the girls to squeal over while enjoying tea. Think of the boy's pseudo-host club like a really niche theater group.
Tamaki is clueless, but he doesn't actually know he's being a jerk. In fairness to him, literally everyone at that school talk to Haruhi the same way. The running joke is that the whole school is made of oblivious rich brats. I'd actually say that in terms of meanness to Haruhi, Kyouya (glasses man) and the twins are worse, even if it was only because they aren't ignorant like Tamaki is. I know I'm coming off as a Tamaki apologist here, but he's actually generous, friendly, gentlemanly (outside of his friends), and enthusiastic about learning about the things he never experienced due to being rich. I totally agree with you that he earns 'asshole' though.
Oh! And Japanese schools have yearly (I think) physical examinations. It wasn't that the information from the physicals wouldn't be private, it's that the physicals have the students gather into groups of male and female, and so Haruhi would go with the girls if she were to participate normally, so the 'secret' would get out that way.

Ummmm, two of my additions have apparently vanished as far as I can tell. IDK what happened. But, um, I guess I'll just TL;DR them -- all the boys in the club are just playing up to popular BL tropes in Japan for the girls to squeal over, none of them are canonically gay, the twins aren't actually twincest-ing, and Hunny-senpai, the littlest dude, is actually the oldest of them all. The club is effectively just a really niche theater group.

a bit of context to help lighten the trauma lol:
1. this came out before the word "daddy" was forever ruined by the internet so when tamaki calls himself that he actually does mean like a father figure xD he considers the whole club to be his family and since he's the club president that makes him the daddy (the black haired one with glasses, kyoya, is the vp and therefore mommy lol)
2. you are right that he's jealous about haruhi (the girl in the host club) being popular with the girls but you're wrong about why - he's in love with her so he doesn't want the attention from *them* he wants the attention from *her* lol this is why he goes back and forth between helping her fit in with the host club and wanting her to go back to looking like a girl.. as a "guy" she can be in the club giving him an excuse to hang out with her but as a "girl" he doesn't have to worry about all the girls fawning over her (and could potentially date her)
3. the twins... have a lot of issues 🥲 though they are EXTREMELY close because of their own familial trauma the uhh more uncomfortable stuff between them is a bit they do for the host club as like a "forbidden love" fanservice to the girls who book time with them (so the real problem is why these girls are looking for that i guess alkdfdjaldf)
To your 2, I feel like he's not IMMEDIATELY in love with her, I feel like the show did "developing emotions" REALLY well, though they deff had chemistry from the start. I also feel like he didn't REALIZE his emotions and chalked it all up to familial care until the very last couple if not the very last episode.....our poor blonde beautiful hopeless himbo king.....

I was expecting the “You can always pay with your body” line
So each of the hosts have a sort of "specialty" or "trope" they play into that helps them draw girls. The twins' specialty is "forbidden love." They act like they're into each other because it's what attracts the most girls to them. As for why it works, their clientele are sheltered rich girls who have more time and money on their hands than they have sense, and even the ones with enough sense to realize the twins are just acting and not really into each other like that still find the antics themselves amusing enough to keep coming back.

I love tf outta this series, and I always get so sad when people take it at face value. These tropes are cranked to the max for a reason, and we can 100% discuss why what was said and done when it came out was problematic, but I still desperately love this mess bc it does make fun of all the shojo and fujoshi tropes while keeping some serious moments in for humanization and understanding of their behaviors!
These characters are insane and weird, and Haruhi's the straight, poor man to their stupid, rich asses, and something about her being the most normal out of them all is just. Charming to me. She doesn't care what pronouns you use for her. She's smart, and she learns that, even though they're all rich and spoiled, they do have familial issues of their own and their own traumas and uses those experiences to better approach the situations she ends up in with them.
Again, it may be all rich people problems, but their friendships are all important and help them all grow into better people. (Most of the time at least.)

I watched this before really experiencing what it was parodying and I still got a good laugh from a great series, but many years later the Fruits Basket remake came out and I decided I should experience a classic series and suddenly OHSHC made a LOT more sense.

Ouran High School Host Club in its entirety is meant to meant to be a parody of the “reverse harem” trope, and many of the “fanservice” moments of the host club itself go deeper than being just for show by the characters- they’re direct callouts to problematic tropes that have developed within the romance genre!!! It’s a fun show with a lot of intention and heart behind it. And while ofc it too has its issues (I mean the manga started in 2002), it’s very fun to see how a romance story in itself is able to weave between using tropes and making fun of them. it’s a good watch (and read)!!!!
Tamaki(AKA, the blond. AKA, the one you hate) is probably my favourite character in the show.

This show is already crazy when you watch it in original version with the subtitles, so in English Dub AND OUT OF CONTEXT... Man, this will be chaotic! 😆

I cringed going into this knowing that the twins were going to be weird in this lmao. To explain the physical exam clips. In Japan students have physical checkups where students are expected to take off their tops, and bras for girls, which would expose Haruhi so the boys are trying to help her not be found out. (There is currently push to regulate school checkups so that students don’t have to undress but theres been pushback from some of the doctors involved)
Sorry to say even in elementary school do checkups as well. But they wear there gym clothes and only lift or remove part of the clothes when being check. Plus they do not do same gender doctor. So there be man checking girls, when woman checking boys.

Also, if it makes you feel better, the twins' act is just an act. Mostly (they are still overly fusional and it's never entirely clear where the limit is, and that's actually part of their character arc). But they only up it for the clients because it's a play on twincest fantasy.

Unapologetically, I've been to a panel at an anime convention for the Host Club. The twins are my favorite! Couldn't tell you why but they're so mischievous and hilarious, so there's that. Even got pictures of the people dressed in the cosplay!
You definitely need to watch this show XD, it's one of the few shows that I don't mind the dub cause it's funny as well

The twins thing is that the girls who go to the host club like this type of incest dynamic, so they act like that for the girls, but they're otherwise just kinda codependent, and even that gets better after Haruhi joins the club.
It’s so great! And also actually a bit emotional traumatizing but in the best way possible and somehow always swings back around to wholesome.

Ouran is a show that parodies tropes from all sorts of media directed at girls and young women, and brings it all to a beautifully disturbing point ♡ Reverse harems, love interests that look like literal children, the whole of what yaoi and forbidden love is, the "perfect" male lead who speaks in flowery words and is somehow not supposed to be cringe, the list goes on. It's actually quite brilliant how much the series commentates on the super weird shit that media directed at women can be. Out of context a lot of it seems super unhinged, and a lot of it is in context too, but the more you watch, the more it breaks out of the stereotypes and explores the depth that a lot of the media it parodies doesn't even consider. Highly recommend watching all of it, or read the manga which goes even further with the themes. ♡

I just want to share that in Japan the is a legend that says that couples who really love each other but for some reason were´nt able to be together reborn as twins, so they can be together forever in a special bond. Point aside, the twins have a back story, they really need each other but in the manga both grow out it even 1 dye his hair, and not for the fight episode. They do that kind of forbbiden love show for the fans since on the host club each one has a role.
The "What is it, now, Daddy?" Line was always funny in the Japanese but it's even more hilarious if you hear the outtakes of the voice actor recording the line. The outtakes of the VA recordings were the best extras included on the DVD. I'm sure they're up on youtube somewhere

man, ouran is ROUGH when you dont know its satire 😂 ouran is a satire of the upper class and shoujo romance tropes that were popular at the time, so everything thats cringe inducing is supposed to be. if it helps, the twins arent really like that, its an act for the girls they entertain in the club. when not "on the clock" they act like any other siblings. its really a callout on stories that do that in sincerity. speaking of sincerity, tamaki comes off like a jerk, but he is actually incredibly sincere and doesnt realise he comes off like a dickhead. he really thinks hes being nice or helpful, im serious. hes just the epitome of rich kid who's disconnected from reality (and is actually very fond of haruhi and is jealous because he wants her attention). and kyoya, the one you found calming, may seem that way at a glance but hes actually tamakis biggest enabler and more like a loan shark than anything lmao.
this show is a parody of shoujo tropes but is surprisingly heartfelt and lovely, and was pretty groundbreaking regarding gender queerness in mainstream anime with regards to how haruhi is written (as well as a few other side characters). but more than anything else, its a comedy about how ridiculous rich people are
