- What animals can survive without water? No species would exist without water, but some of them can go years without drinking a single drop. They stay hydrated just from the food they eat, while others can absorb liquid directly through their skin. For example. African dwarf frogs cannot survive out of water for longer than 20 minutes! These guys are bad swimmers, and they prefer shallow, slow-moving water where they can swim more easily.
By the way, have you ever wondered how long can humans survive without water? Well, you can go without food for about 2 months but water is a different story. The average human can hold out about three days without water. We satisfy one fifth of our water needs from food, and 80% of our lungs consist of water. So, let’s make it a competition and see which creature will live the longest without water.

Why the tartigrades can survive that long without water but have a way shorter lifespan is because they curl up into a dried-up husk and then after a while when they finally get some water or they get out of the husk they restart their lifespan

I think the title is kind of misleading, it's not how long animals can live without water, but how long they can live without DRINKING or SEEN DRINKING or DRINKING CONVENTIONALLY, since many of these animals are actually storing and consuming water slowly or getting it from other mediums like food while in their not-drinking period
So are the lifespans in captivity or the wild
That tartigrade probably don't need water in its entire lifetime if it's lifespan is less than 2 years and it can stay 30 years without water lol

Actually a cat can go without water a lot longer than 3 days, in fact there was a cat found in a cabinet in an abandoned house and it was in there for over a month without food or water.
