@@davidparsons3432 Yeah, Marxist media. It's a tad simplistic but there's an element of truth. We don't have TV but my wife, a monarchist, wanted to watch the Coronation on TH-cam. Well I told her most of the videos are over-subscribed at the time. She told me the ABC coverage was working so I said, 'You won't want to watch it!" And why not? Because it's the ABC and you can expect it to go on about 'colonization' and 'imperialism' and 'white skin' and 'oppression'. This is all pure cultural Marxism, Frankfurt School, march through the institutions, oppressed and oppressor, Cultural Revolution stuff. And guess what, that's exactly what she sat down to watch.

Were you better informed, you'd be aware that the ABC was hijacked by Murdoch's zombies and made into something even I, a longtime fan of the ABC, find disgusting. The ABC was originally set up to provide the top 10% of society with mind food (anything the commercial stations refused to run with because it was too elitist). Since Yob Hawke's reign, the ABC has been criticised for not being commercial and dumbed-down enough. That's a sure sign of a sick society. That ought to be what you're complaining about were we in a healthier climate of thought.

Be aware that most of his guests/interviewees think as he does or broadly agree with his viewpoint, e.g., Niall Ferguson, etc. He does not purposely garner viewpoints that are contrary to his or even search and interview guests whose viewpoints are contrary to his. Basically, he is doing what ABC is doing, but in his own way, and his own agenda for his viewers nothing new here. A true democratic platform will garner and welcome various viewpoints. If the interviewer is smart/competent/etc enough will shoot down or rebuke any viewpoints that are not appropriate for Australian society.

@@yttean98 You are correct, but there are two issues here. Like @PaulBKal said, he is putting to air views that differ from those on mainstream media, providing some kind of viewpoint diversity. The other related issue is most on the Left aren't able to appear on the 'wrong' podcast or they risk being ostracized or even lose their jobs. This makes it very difficult for a podcast to provide a balance of views. The Left is currently affected by a purity spiral. This is a sad turn of events when a few decades ago (or even just 1 decade ago) the Left were far more liberal and much more "debate me, bro!"

I like the Op-Ed format, hope to see more. Kim Williams is simply another example of a legacy media gate-keeper who sees not only their quickly ebbing commercial market-share, but also the waning of their historical power courtesy of their control over the information flow and the narrative. The internet has busted this model. This is making many in the legacy media quite unhinged. I doubt there will be much self-reflection or adaptation, and I expect there will just be more and more hysterical rants like Williams'.

It kills me that Anderson gets so few views here in the US. He's extremely sharp and has equally smart guests. I always worry that videos of this caliber are throttled/shadow banned like Twitter authors/content creators used to be.
PS: enjoyed you're music overlay. Good choice

Thanks John, for the presentation about podcasts on the one hand, and what might well be called legacy media, on the other.
Interesting point, too about gender of listeners, in connexion with podcast genres.
Apropos of legacy media, state-owned and -sponsored media organisations
    - The Beeb, ABC(Australia), CBC(Canada) et al -
passed sell-by quite a long while ago.
Might be a similar story with other legacy media organisations.

Thanks John for your podcast. I am a Canadian that is fed up with our national broadcaster, the CBC. They get a sh-t ton of money from our government and are so biased to be unreliable. What I really like about the podcast format is that there is time to delve into complex topics and get to understand why someone thinks the way they do.

It would be interesting to see you "interview" the Chairman of the ABC, first question, has he EVER READ the ABC Charter of Operations regarding his Board RESPONSIBILITIES, my guess would be NO as he doesn't seem to accept any responsibility for the demise of a once greatly admired organisation, now generally held in CONTEMPT by a widely EX audience.

Thanks John, so well put. I set my morning alarm to the ABC radio so it winds me up to get out of bed and start the day. The problem is it’s damaging to have that much bias to start the day. I resolve to completely disconnect from the ABC and its incredibly woke ideology. I also completely reject the notion people have a short attention span. Joe Rogan clearly demonstrates a desire in the market for the competition of ideas and actual analysis.

Australians are more easy going about their politics but as we see our politicians stuff things up and lie to us that is beginning to change

  • @RobertSmith-jl4yw
    @RobertSmith-jl4yw 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

And it's time for Australian politicians to consider offering themselves up to interviews with some of our podcasters (such as yourself), as Trump (and Fetterman, incidentally) did with Rogan. It was a fascinating and revealing thing as a listener. It certainly reveals those who are brave enough, and prepared to defend their political and cultural convictions without script or otherwise. We even get to see them as personallities. This is the future of political journalism for sure. Thanks, John.

A sane and refreshing commentary on mainstream media and the demise of professional journalism in this country. The public broadcaster, the ABC, is a disgrace and should be sold off, it is almost unwatchable.

Very good and straightforward assessment. This reality that the people outside of the double credentialed and selected class can discuss issues of note either at the public or online is having a disastrous impact on the self anointed thought leaders.
