I can’t get enough of SP’s switchers and bay windows! Awesome layout seeing all those SP power parked and the fencing near the caboose track! My favorite thing in model railroading-switching!
Everyone is saying this, but I'll say it, too. Fantastic weathering! It makes all the difference. Railroad rolling stock, locomotives, and and structures are usually stressed looking and you did a great job depicting that. The sound is awesome, too.
This is an outstanding model railroad. The weathered engines and rolling stock are spot on. Your scenery is spectacular. The colors and dusty track are simply the most realistic I have seen. I kept waiting for a warm breeze to start up and blow more dust around. It looks like it is 100 degrees Fahrenheit on the layout. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing.
This is amazing scenery. I too have an SW-1500 but I am mixed as to whether I should weather it (which I do want to) or keep it as pristine as when it got delivered to SP but then again I am not modeling the mid-60s but rather the decade after in LA; keep up the excellent work.
Great layout doing the same with SP/SSW later time period of the SP/SSW. Your layout captures SP at its finest . Depot's and service facilities still operational that had been around since day one. Equipment that would be rebuilt at the Sacramento shops under GRIP and other SP only specific items . This is the California side of the SP grew up on the coast line but ended up in Texas and Louisiana . Talk about two different railroads and customers that was Southern Pacific.
You know.... you all really irritate me. I grew up in this area and loved watching the old SP in this area, and you all have pulled it off way better than I could. Nicely done. I almost moved to hook but was concerned no one there would share my obsession with all things SP. Seems I may have been just a little wrong.
Beautiful layout, nice scenery, realistic weathering, smooth operations. A real pleasure to see. One comment, and maybe it's just the video sound pick up, but it sure sounds like those GP9's had turbocharger whine instead of the chat of normally aspirated EMD 567's
Thanks, Gary. It is an older custom download for a Loksound 3.5, that adds the transitioning sounds not present on the Loksound stock 3.5 offered download. The sound pick-up isn't brilliant, it must be admitted!
Hi Brian, nice and realistic lay-out. You know, I'm modelling the Southern Pacific too and the railroads that played an important role in the history of the SP (like the SSW, D&RGW and the Santa Fe). Mid 70's thru late 80's. Mostly EMD's will be running on my lay-out. Please have a look at some of my vids under Vossing Olivier (the finished benckwork and the listing of some of my engines). Thanks you for your excellent vids. Greetings from Belgium.
+Brian Moore Brian, I had the feeling it was. While Tsunami was king for a while, I've been hearing Loksound is tops presently. The horns sounded strong, something Tsunami is not noted for and the engines sounds very impressive.
Brian very awesome and detailed layout. Do you have a video showing your entire layout or if not can I see one in would love to see the whole thing. Also how big is your layout also is it a point to point or and around the layout
+kanishirosouthwester As said in the final credits, it's my friend Rob Mallett's layout, and you see all of it in the video. It's U-shaped, point-to-point, with three storage tracks behind the cement facility and about 10x10'. I'll pass your kind words on to him.
Great weathering on the rolling stock & motive equipment. This stuff has been earning its keep by paying it's dues! Every piece of equipment did not come straight from the paint shop! Only critique point I have, on that switching move for the Ross Cement #17, the camera tracked the locomotive too much for my taste. The train in complete is what makes money & gives the railroad a purpose for being in the first place. In 4 years, I am sure you have improved.

Excellent weathering of the tracks, scenery and rolling stock.
THANK YOU FOR DETAIL VIDEO ON OPERATION ON YOUR DETAIL LAYOUT AS GOOD WATCHING A SMOOTH OPERATION
FROM AUSTRALIA
Looks beautiful - matches California's Central Valley really well. The scenery and industries all match what I'd expect over here.
+Robert Bowdidge Cheers, Robert. Knowing your own fabulous layout, the complement will be all the more appreciated.
This is true inspiration for SP modelers. Thx for sharing

Very entertaining. Great video work on a nice layout with switching done at realistic speeds. Love it!
Awesome, no need to waste words on how great it is
Wow, that's amazingly realistic! I'm an SP fan that just got back into HO scale after years of being out of the hobby. I like what you've done!

Exceptional locos and cars the weathering is fantastic. Not to mention great layout.

Compliments from across the pond. A nice job of representing SP in the San Joaquin Valley, just south of where I grew up (Davis CA/Sacramento)
As noted, the weathering is so realistic I can almost feel the grit on my tongue.
Bulls eye!!! Thanks, Paul

Great job. Smooth operation
Gorgeous. A fine day in the life. - Jeff
Nice job for a small area. Well done Rob!
Great layout and video... Long live the SP... You've done them proud. Keep up the good work.
Need an updated video of this layout please

Great video..!
whos' decoder is in the switcher #2467, great sound, nice video. love the weathering job especially on the Ross Cement loco.
Thanks, Joe. Loksound Select.
Factory installed? or did you do it( whose loco is this, Manufacturer?)
Athearn RTR with decoder installed by the layout (and loco) owner, Rob Mallett. Quite a big job.
Great job, is this a sugar cube speaker, is there an outlet you'd recommend for picking up decoders, I have several to do.
It's a cut-down bass-reflex speaker, as I recall. We're in the UK, Joe - where are you?

Love every minute off this. Great representation of how it really was. Really loved the Alcohol RS1. Is it an atlas?
Thank you. Yes, it is an Atlas locomotive.

Looks like that tanker just missed the train at the crossing! kidding!
What is the sound in that EMD switcher?
+riogrande5761 Thanks for the complement. It's a Loksound Select.

Magnificent layout, but I'm getting jealous. LOL
realizim is great on your layout , that was a great video to watch , just love the senery, but why the blue windows ?
+sparky107107 The blue sometimes seen in the windows is reflection. No windows are painted blue!
Extra..Super Nice
Layout
Finally.......proper weathering on Espee.......clap clap clap
Is the sound coming out of that engine?
Yes. All the locos are sound-equipped.
They sound great!
Great weathering on the rolling stock & motive equipment. This stuff has been earning its keep by paying it's dues! Every piece of equipment did not come straight from the paint shop!

Ahh the music of EMD, much better!
