The scenery is exceptional! The roads look absolutely real - great modeling. The weathering on the rolling stock is just perfect, not overdone and the engineer with his elbow hanging out the window is awesome! Thanks for sharing your work!
That modeling looks so real someone could mistake it for the real thing. Nice Job! Also, I've looked at Bradford, VT on Google Maps to try and find the part of the town this part of the layout was modeled after, but I couldn't find it.
You have one of the most realistic looking model railroads around. Great scenery, nicely weathered equipment, superior track and wonderful sound makes for a very realistic and, for you, satisfying, layout. Thank you for sharing with us.
I don't know how your videos have escaped me before this evening, but thank goodness TH-cam recommended one of them to me tonight, then took me on to many others. Your layout is most impressive and the low-angle photography you use when making your videos greatly adds to the realism. As someone who grew up watching Lehigh Valley branch line trains in Allentown, PA, this video really took me back to the 1960s and 1970s. EMD SWs and NW-2s were used almost exclusively to switch out industries along the lines during my childhood, so the sights and sounds I just witnessed really brought back wonderful memories from my youth. I was fortunate enough to be befriended by the engineer and crew between 1968 and 1972 and received a number of cab rides throughout those years. As I watched your engine crossing the road near the beginning of your video, I envisioned the figure visible in the conductor's seat to be myself at age 13 or 14, enjoying every moment! Thanks so much for taking the time to include a video of a local doing its daily switching. I know there are a lot of guys who, like me, would rather watch a slow moving local crawling along weed covered, rusting rails than witnessing fast moving freights speeding along well-ballasted main lines. I hope you'll consider filming more videos featuring similar action.
Neil, Thanks for posting another excellent video of your layout and the switching action of the local. The Agway scene from the angle you shot the video shoving the cars into the shed looks very realistic. That switcher in B&M maroon and gold is a very nice unit, you did a fantastic job on it.-Tom
@@MoonwolfeConsulting Hi, at the 10:53 minute mark the caption reads "The local starts switching out grain cars at the Agway". There is an Agway sign next to the Shell gas station that reads Agway, Bradfod, VT, Entrance. Neil has done a fantastic job on his layout and I really enjoyed the video.
Excellent video, Neil. And you made a beautiful railroad that combines main line operations with local switching; it’s prototype railroading. I’m glad I finally found your videos.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL MODELING SIR!!! Attention to detail is TOP NOTCH, and that goes for not just the loco and basic scenery, but car selection, sound, ops, backdrop, signs, etc. etc. You've captured New England, and in 'modern' times to boot (not modeled enough for my taste)! I can only aspire to get to this level of completion for my 1990's N Scale Mass./Maine layout- but your vids help push me to get there. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR WORK and please keep 'em coming!
Loved this video Neil and the way you take us all into Bradford for a casual day trackside. Favorite details were the TV antenna at 20:00, the wonderful signage and normally forgotten open door on the Conrail boxcar. Leaves me looking forward to checking out the old siding down by the freight house, to see the way things really look on the prototype and harvest some new modeling ideas.👍👍 Ken...
This video filled up my eyeballs with soooo much realism I had to buy glasses! Very impressive Sir. A sub for life. Fallen Flags will live on. Just so doggone impressive.WoW.
I came across your channel today. This was the third video of yours that I watched. The easy pace, realism and attention to detail stirred me to sub and ring the bell. Looking forward to watching many more of your videos. Tom
Excellent work. Really giving Mike Confalone a run for his money on the scenic realism front. Hope my layout is someday to your level. Thanks for putting it up.
Thank you for sharing, this is fantastic! I like your scenery and your ability to have patience and operate at prototypical speeds!!! Keep up the good work!!
Great switching action with some awesome 1st Gen EMD Sound. Neil the way you have this part of your layout has a very prototypical feel, especially the Agway feed mill. Thanks for showing the action at various angles. Can you show more of the mill? Tim
Hi Tim - the mill was the subject of an article in the September 2014 issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist and building the Town of Bradford itself was featured in the May 2017 issue of Model Railroad Hobbyist.
That’s cool. I’ll have to look them up. I really like the way you have the tracks curving into the mill. Looks real to me. On a side note, Kalmbach has MR Planning 2018 on sale for $4.99 so I’ve got one coming my way. TG
There's some other videos on the channel, but I don't have an overall video right now. At some point I'll do one. This section of the layout was featured in Model Railroad Hobbyist Magazine about three years ago and the Town of Orleans was featured in the 2018 Model Railroad Planning Magazine.
A really excellent Layout, I had to look twice as I thought it real. The way the Model merges with the Back Scene probably the best I’ve ever seen and all the Colours of the Vegetation including the Road Surface spot on. Thank you. How large is your Layout please?
Amazing scenes, amazing modeling work, and amazing camera work. Thanks for sharing!!! Question, are the houses behind the tracks (around 20:00) kits or scratch built? I’m always looking for New England style homes.
Beautiful camera work. Impressive detail. I do, however, have one complaint (There is always one.) I would prefer to have a few wider shots to understand what is happening from place to place. Show the beautiful tight shots, but cross-fade in a few wider shots to allow me to follow start, finish, and middle.
Thanks for the compliments Donald. One of the ways I try to portray the layout is from a railfan's perspective, at ground level. The era is set in 1980, so long before drone shots:-) I'm also limited by my phone camera and the ability to pan and zoom during shooting. Maybe someday I'll invest in a more versatile camera, but for now I'm going to stick with the phone camera. Thanks for watching.
@@NRS8400 I like the shots as they are as I feel it makes the overall scene bigger that I expect it actually is. It also creates a sense of mystery as to what is around that next bend in the track or just out of view. I have a small shelf layout and you have given me ideas on how to make it seem larger by these close / narrow shots. Thank you.
@@NRS8400 Unedited? Which audio file? Which decoder? Which train brand, i.e. model train manufacturer? I love that sound. sounds like an old cracked muffler. But is rarely so clear in you tube movies.
@@Modeltogs_Hygge I don't remember all the specific details, but likely a Loksound 4 mini, with the EMD 567 V12 recording with drive hold. Hope that helps.
Hi Justin, Yes, common for many western roads to make it all the way to New England, though it should be done in moderation. Santa fe cars regularly made it to Vermont as insulated cars carrying a variety of products from CA including beer and wine.
Yes, the model was custom built and weathered with Loksound installed. The B&M 1223 was one of two that survived into the early 1980's in the original maroon and gold.
The detail! Unbelievable!
Scenery is perfection!
You are an artist. The scenery, the ground cover, the trackwork, your ballasting, the signs and details are all amazing. Thank you for sharing
The pauses between moves are an additional layer of realism.
Superb!
Nice layout! The scenery blends in well with the backdrop!
I never knew about your layout before today. It is great... Tremendous detail...

B&M 1223 is soon to undergo a FULL restoration on the Milford and Bennington Railroad!
Simply fantastic! I could watch this ALL day!!!
And a buck-four for regular!
Can’t get any better!

Yes, common for many western roads to make it all the way to New England, though it should be done in moderation. Santa fe cars regularly made it to Vermont as insulated cars carrying a variety of products from CA including beer and wine.

O-OH, no new videos for 7 months.... where have you gone Neil,, hope all is well for you mate. We miss you.

Where is this layout?
SO realistic I am truly impressed. BUT.... when is someone going to work out a system for chuffing out some proper black diesel smoke?
1:24.....checkout those gas prices. Wish we still had that.
if it keeps up the way we going today, we may get back to those prices
Just watched this for the 2nd time since posting and noticed the junction has been removed , I take it the Y that it formed wasn't really working.
It was never actually in service. When the expansion happened last year I took it out.
Model railroad eye candy.
It looks so real! Weathering is outstanding! Gasoline $1.04! Full service! Boston is always higher, because it's run by Democrats!
The only tip off that this was not real … …. … the price of gasoline posted …
Shell gas $104 a gallon. I will move there.
Love those gas prices!
You can tell it is not real life. Look at the gas prices!
Bradford VT. IS NOT BOSTON.
Nope, it's not.😀
Bradford VT is not only NOT BOSTON, in Minuteman days it was NOT run by Democrats. They came in the time of blue (McGinnis).
