  • In this video I do a comparison between the Vanquest Falconer 27 and the Maxpedition Falcon III backpacks. Both of these packs are well built pieces of quality gear with some design differences. These bags could be used as; camp packs, bug out bag, get home bags or 72 hour kits.
    Vanquest sent me this backpack free of charge in exchange for this video review.

    One of the few good gear videos on the web! Thank you for your attention to detail and your concise and brief speech! Reviews of a product are next to worthless without another similar item to compare to. I have only ever subscribed to one TH-cam user so you're gonna be my second ever.

    For anyone reading, Vanquest discontinued the Falconer 27 and re-released it as the larger Falconer 30. I think they are both quality bags with unique designs for different needs. This video helped me in making the decision of which way to go for mine. Great job!

    excellent video man. I like the organisation and attention to details of the Vanquest. Maxpedition gear never quite did it for me! They both look like awesome packs but, if someone put a gun to my head and said "pick one", I would take the Vanquest.
    thanks for sharing.

    One of the best comparison reviews ive seen thus far, thank You! Im going with the falcon III, It'll be replacing my 3V Gear Paratus 3 Day Operator's Pack...its too big/stiff and no hook and loop on the inside.

    This is a good comparison video. I am looking at both packs right now. The F3 is on closeout right now, so that really evens things out for me. The Vanquest is certainly on the cutting edge in terms of organization. I have products from both companies and am very happy with both. One thing I noticed with my Vanquest gear is that they say "Designed in the U.S.A." So I am not entirely sure they are manufactured here. Would like to think so, but I have to think the wording was carefully selected. I could be wrong though. Anyway, it is a helpful and intelligent comparison video.

    Thank you! Very nice video! Are you planing comparison between F27 and Riftcore? I think both of them are from the same price range and Riftcore is also more suitable for urban EDC than F3. If I need to choose bag to extreme, I definitely choose F3 because this is his main purpose and not EDC to work. Is more simple than F27, so have less things from soft materials which can be broken or damaged... :)

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would love to do that video but I am not sure I can get my hands on the Riftcore. I have been using the Vanquest for EDC and really like it, I did use the Maxped Pygmy Falcon before that for about 18 months.

    I hate the way Vanquest does their ties. I do think they have more comfortable packs but have always liked my max stuff quite a bit as well. I dislike the full panel hook and loop and I think the Falcon 2 had a flap in the middle which is where I stored my solar panel. Looks like they jacked that up on the 3. Excellent video.

    Everyone has their preferences, but I'll take Maxpedition everyday . The higher quality nylon and durability is the biggest selling point IMO. The other one looks like a great bag, but I'll go for the Maxpedition unless someone gives me a really good reason not to.

    I have both bags as well and disagree that the Vanquest is better constructed. The Maxpedition is almost bullet proof in construction and definitely feels a lot more durable especially when stuffed to the gills. What I love about the Vanquest is that they added organization to almost every wall of the bag even though I have everything organized into kits that are secured into individual bags within the bag I find knives multi tools magazines etc. are better handled by the Vanquest. If I only had one option between the 2 if SHTF I would trust the Maxpedition over the Vanquest in my opinion.

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Ricky Rocket I think I would agree that the Maxped is more rugged, but that is not the only aspect of construction I was considering. For example the Vanquest is lined and the way the zippers are are set up to provide access. When I think about it, the lines between construction and design might be a little blurry. Thanks for posting...

      +Ricky Rocket I too have both, and well...im not sure. I feel the vanquest are better built, but the maxpedition carries a heavier load better...but not good at all. No tactical bag does. I like the maxpedition for its bigger size. I think ill use falconer 27 for day hikes and the maxpedition as a bob, just because it has more room.

    Very through review. Just one thing, Vanquest says their gear is designed in America, but made in Taiwan to their "exacting standards". I think it was made in the Philippines before.

    I own both and I can say that the qualities are good. I prefer to use falconer 27 for work because of it's "less" tactical look. I love the organization of the top pouch as it separates my id, coins, train card etc. I'll be using the falcon 3 for hiking.

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gabriel Buenviaje I agree about the 27, it's what I have for EDC usage.

    • @gabrielbuenviaje4499

      I both experienced using on heavy rain and I can say that maxped offer more protection. If only they put side pocket for water bottle like on pygmy, then I can say that these bags will be perfect.

    You guys are all killing me. I've using a Mongo for the past 10 months. I dig it but I find its not quite big enough for everything I want to edc. I like the look of a messenger bag but have thinking of switching to a backpack because of weight. Every time I think I'm settled on either the Max or The Van I read another comment that sways me the other way lol. There's absolutely NO WAY I'll go with the new AGR line from Max. They look ugly as shit and don't really seem nearly as functional.
    I really like the organization of the outer pouch and the inner hook and loop on this Van. Sucks because I already have the Janus Expansion pouch plus a Beefy and Fatty. Didn't want to necessarily have to get new pouches but I'll have an OCD freak out if I put Max pouches into a Van backpack lol. Great video.

    • @TheSmokinApe
      @TheSmokinApe  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha @ OCD freakout, I am the same way. I also carried a Mongo for about a year and switched to the pygmy falcon. I really like this vanquest and have been edcing since I made this video, its really nice but I miss the bottle holder. The Maxped in this video is too big for me too edc...

    Great vid. And Vanquest packs are NOT made in the USA. They are designed here, and the trademarked Multicam fabric is made in USA. Packs are made overseas with largely overseas materials.

  • @lrodd247

    I can't stop looking at those 2 long zippers on the front of the Van, makes the bag look really cheesy, I don't know why. I do love all the organization you can do on the Van but doesn't seem as rugged. Now, if I was Max I would add in more organization into my bags and make a lot of people happy! lol
    Or if I was Van I would beef up my bags and make them look more appealing. My perfect bag would be a Max bag with a lot of pouches and compartments, less molly and 500 cordura for weight! Hope you guys listen to potential customers..

    For one, not sure what kind of area you are shopping but the Vanquest is actually about $180 not $205. Never have I seen someone try to down play Vanquest like you have. Anyone who has ever handled either, know who is the best. Vanquest continues to put Maxpedition to shame. Maxpedition has cheap, shit material for bags. Vanquest is second to none. All of Maxpedition's crap is typical commercial items. Vanquest puts Maxpedition to shame, once again.

      Prices were from Amazon. I don't know what you are talking about saying that I was downing Vanquest. Vanquest makes great gear and this bag has been my EDC since right after this video... I didn't down it at all.
