      That is ONE of the sweetest things Jennifer / Katniss said to Amandla / Rue
      another couple things she said to her was “ Rue? It’s okay I won’t hurt you” , “ Want mine?” , “ Here take it” , “ Sh.. It’s okay your alright! “ There was also the lullaby she sung for Rue while she was mid passing away. Katniss / Jennifer is a FANTASTIC person and we will forever remember the bravery she had shown standing up for Prim / Primrose / Willow Shields her younger sister.

    I just want to say to everyone who thinks the peacekeepers overreacted and didn’t understand the salute: they did. That’s why they reacted that way; because the people acknowledged the horror of the games and showed solidarity with the victors instead of hating them. A major reason for the games was to keep the citizens divided amongst themselves, so for them to salute another district’s victor *is* a significant act of rebellion, especially coming from a district that has rioted over the games in the past.

    • @robins5828
      @robins5828 4 ปีที่แล้ว +416

      Exactly...the government propoganda is that the games are a glorious battle amongst warriors. The way Caesar and the other TV personalities treat everything, it's sold as exciting reality TV. Peeta and Katniss go off script here and throw it in the Capitol's face that the games are actually nothing more than the murder of innocent children. What the Capitol fears the most is all of the people uniting against them...they very carefully keep the districts separate from each other and then pit them against each other in the games to foster hate. Any hint of love and unity has to be ruthlessly squashed.

    One detail that's being overlooked is the whistle. We all understand the significance of the three fingered salute, but the four note whistle was originally created by Rue to let workers know when peacekeepers were near or when quitting time started. So it's not just the salute to Katniss, it's also a salute to the little Rue-girl who helped everyone else.

      In the book, Katniss initially wants to move away from the crowd without saying anything, because she is terrible at using words and also very fearful about the situation after President Snow had threatened to kill her family if she stirs unrest. But then Katniss realizes that making the flower grave for Rue and mourning Rue would get nullified if she would not give an eulogy to Rue right now. Since Katniss wants to maintain honoring Rue, she makes an improvised speech. As the book and film audience has already learned, Katniss is her very best self when she improvises. And the effect is immediate and powerful, which is why she is the Mockingjay without knowing it.

The Capitol killed the old man because he used the salute which is only used in District 12. This would mean unity among the Districts. Meaning; it could start a new rebellion.

      For an authoritarian government to maintain control, the public must remain divided and respect it above all else. Katniss and Rue brought them together and that is a huge no no. The masses are something to be feared when they’re united, even if it is in the name of love.

He's used to any sign of rebellion being met with swift and harsh punishment. He knew what was coming but still thought it was worth it to show Katniss that District 11 is _with her._ Really puts the chosen majority demographic being black in a different light.

I somehow felt her confused pain as she was screaming to leave him alone and the creeping feeling of anguish once she witnessed him get shot; the lip quiver, the widened eyes of shock then her angered tone of voice, it was perfect.

Character development right there but they had it not included in the first movie.

    • @rominn2184
      @rominn2184 4 ปีที่แล้ว +48

      ^ That's an arbitrary and overly-generalized statement. It isn't merely about government. You have to look deeper than that. Do not forget the complicity and willingness of the people of Panem (mainly in the Capitol). Despite their conditioning in this post-apocalyptic dystopian futuristic world, these people have a very basic conscience of right and wrong, and they are at least smart enough to know that the killing of innocent young people is wrong deep down. However, the TRUE evil is in that they are so distracted by the excesses of luxury and comforting pleasures and are so wealthy and privileged, they don't have to care about or even know about the suffering of the people in the districts. No tyrannical regime ever gets done what it gets done without the complicity and acceptance of the status quo by its brainwashed people. It is never as simple as a government that gets too powerful. In Panem's case, the government was always powerful. The whole reason for the Hunger Games is because the districts lost their first war of rebellion against the Capitol. What is truly terrible about the Capitol is that it's not so much that they enforce the Hunger Games, but that they paint the situation as the districts being reliant on the Capitol for necessary resources and that the Capitol is this benevolent and giving entity, so long as the districts toe the line. In reality, of course, the Capitol gives next to nothing to the districts except misery and grief and most of the districts' resources are relegated to the Capitol while the people who operate the means of production are left to starve.

      Thats an oversimplification
      The message is basiclly when the Rich and Powerfoull disconect from reality in their enclossed space, sorrounded by luxary
      While they let the working classes struggle and starve
      Panem isn't an absolute dictatorship, Snow is preety handsoff and delegates alot of his power, Hell the capitol has almost no controll over the districts beyond brutalty, there is rampant black market sales, and constant unrest
      Panem is more of a failled facist-oligarchy, All the pepole in power either inherited or gainned it trough favors, and have no idea how to run the goverment
      Any competent leader knows one thing; dont let pepole fear you, the best dictatorships succeed only with the suport of the pepole

      It's a little more nuanced than that. Katniss spoke against the games in her speech by recognizing the humanity in both the tributes lost, and during the games gave Rue her humanity and recognized her life by surrounding her with flowers and saying goodbye to her. By going against how the Capitol portrays their sacrifice as 'willing' and 'for the cause' by telling it how it truly is- a death sentence- and having the citizens in return recognize that humanity is what goes against the Capitol's "teachings". The symbol of goodbye to the Capitol means the people claiming their humanity back- and that's why it becomes their symbol.

      Interesting that this seems to be a huge reoccurring pattern with us and our relationship towards entertainment. There were crowds of hate and criticism among films that are now considered “masterpieces” that flogged the box office upon release like The Thing, which is now widely regarded as one of the best horror sci-fi films of all time by so many.
      I wonder what it is that makes something age to it’s “nostalgic” phase that makes it less hated than something newer rather than just nostalgic bias. That’s something that makes me super curious.

      @@lulub517 I think it can all be explained by one word: Emotion. People are emotional. They get hyped for a new movie and when it comes out and doesn't meet their emotionally overladen expectation the crowds mood swings into hate, and if a new movie is hated, it basically has already lost the battle - as even people who haven't watched it will join the hatecycle.
      Luckily emotions get less intense after the years and only then people can see these movies through a more... rational lens. Appreciating for what they are and with expectations now being more of a blank slate than already tarnished by the outrage of past times.
      Its the same thing with any entertainment media. Music and Video games for example, always have those specific gens that when they come out everybody hates on them just because something just didn't feel right to the emotional crowds and years down the line, suddenly people start noticing those titles aren't so bad after-all.

    In my head cannon I like to think that the reason rues father wasn’t there is because he was the first guy we see start the riot after her death in the first movie. And the old man who raised his fingers was her grandfather

    The old man knew it was his last breath if he whistled but went for it anyway. Trying to create a better future for the younger generation. A noble sacrafice and eventually he's a small part of a big revolution.

    My little sister died when she was 21 so what Peeta says I totally support his words. She was too young too gentle, but she impact the life of so many. Thank you The Hunger Games

    i never caught this before but that guy from district 11 in 2:29 was trying to push katniss away.. she really means so much to them and it's like saying "it's fine... he'll inevitably die. the important thing is that you stay safe, mockingjay" and that makes me so sad

    I like that unlike most book to movie scenario's, they end up changing a lot of stuff. But glad to say they kept these movies as close to the books as they could with a few differences that were ok.
