Every time I listen to this album I either burst into tears or get extremely sentimental. I still don't understand how it's possible to create music that strikes all the chords with you, that is sooo beautiful that you're out of words. I'm thankful for living this life and being aware of existence of this album.
I ain't got too much money, I ain't got too much sense Long ago I had a dream but that's no recompense My father was a blind man, my brother was a fool My mother told me "God is love" But hatred makes the rules Teach me to fly So I shan't drag my feet in the sand Give me the sky I would take the whole world in my hand Well, don't you tell me I cannot last at all Before you know I'll come and go And make you if I can Maybe I'm a beggar Just check your sympathy They throw away their gentle love And keep their pain for me Can we be free In a world where to love is to own? Well when will we see That a man must face life all alone? Maybe I'm a beggar Just check your sympathy They throw away their gentle love And keep their pain for me Teach me to fly So I shan't drag my feet in the sand Give me the sky I would take the whole world in my hand Can we be free In a world where to love is to own? Well when will we see That a man must face life all alone?
Most web sites say "I cannot last forever", but I also found "I cannot last at all" a few times. I really am wondering what he really says here. Does anyone know for sure?
With all the mainstream music of the time, when I discovered this album in the early 80s I was totally blown away... sounds just as amazing today!! Viva supertramp!👏
I have been a huge fan of this band since I first heard a song on the radio, which was around 1980. This is a gem from their first, quite underrated album
You need to listen with headphones for the stereo split sound! Exquisite hamonic Composition and Session Jamming - everyone owns his instrument completely
I was so happy to stumble upon this Lp. As it sounds raw and there concept album. I feel they write as great or better than Lennon/ McCartney as all there albums are entirely fantastic, every song. Can you name one that wasn’t? ☮️

From their excellent and criminally underrated debut album.

I have been listening to this album since '71 and the sentiments that it evokes are as strong as ever.
thank you for discribing exactly what i feel too
This is the most beautiful album I've ever heard.
And just like that. This is now my all time favorite Supertramp song. And I just heard it 2 weeks ago for the first time.
super close to soapbox opera for me but im just so glad they can still surprise me.
@@NoFutureForG0uda
This came out before soapbox opera
@@jasonlottimer4414 yeah sure i meant super close in my favourites and this album isnt the most known i hadnt heard this song until recently
But this music could have driven Hodgson to create "A Soapbox Opera"! That's the Key....
Yeah agree ! This is also one of my my favorite... the bass score is great. I can’t understand it has been kept so confidential.
"My mother told me God is Love, but hatred makes the rules.". Profound. And true.
My favourite group, of all times.
I've been listening to them over 40yrs. Such good music!
Good musicians!
Happy 50 years Supertramp!!!!!!

I always thought it was "forever."

This first album is by far the best of Supertramp
Vocals are a rare duet between Roger Hodgson and Richard Palmer-James!!!
Also, who else goes full air guitar mode at 3:03?
king crimson + moody blues= SPT
So, so glad I grew up with music like this being played by my parents!
most underrated song
What a song ,makes me cry evertime .... maybe because I'm a beggar checking for sympathy in this absurd world...
awesome piece ... my favorite supertramp album ...thx for the add
Another great song of this album!

Pure Gold 🌟
Amazing song, offers a great balance between melancholy and sheer energy ! 4:12 that passage is golden

EXCELENTE ALBUM.

Ma maman me réveillé avec sa
The talented Richard Palmer-James wrote the lyrics, sings, and plays lead guitar.

This reminds me of 21st century schizoid man
Beste Komposition der 70er. Dagegen war Mozart höchstens gleichwertig. Höchstens…
