I had a mental breakdown today. As a last year university student I have anxiety about the future. Over the past months I never tell my parent about this because I don't want them to know that I struggle to finish my final assignment, but today I had the courage to call my dad about my anxiety. The conversation calm me down and reassure me to not give up. Edit: I keep getting notifications for likes on this comment. I originally wrote this almost 4 years ago when I was at the lowest point in my depression. I had no friends, was failing classes, and generally felt like an absolute failure. For anyone actually reading, as corny as it is, things do get better. Burnout can be reversed and you will find things you love to live for. My original comment was a (lowkey unfunny) joke about how helpless I felt in my inability to grasp onto the greatness I promised myself as a child. But a low point does not equate to an end point. I picked myself back up and I'm working towards my goals even when it gets hard. There will always be difficulties and sometimes I still feel like giving up on everything and retreating to the comfort of my self-destructive thoughts but as the years go by the urge decreases. Being a "gifted kid" doesn't mean you automatically become a failure as an adult. And I truly hope anyone who took the time to read this will take the time to take care of themselves to heal any wounds and become who they have always had the capability to be. Don't be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This song is about Billy Joel finally meeting the other half of his family. His father lives in Vienna where he is a famous concert pianist. ( Imagine that) I also think that he finds out during this trp that his half brother is a surgeon. The song has great meaning. Billy always thought that he had no time or place to fit these people into his life, until he met them.

My best friend from elementary school was always the smartest girl in the class, we all knew that, but when she enrolled in college she started failing, i was doing so much better than her back then, she gave up after three years and dropped out and we all still consider her the smartest of all, if you're smart once you'll always be the smart one trust me. But that's not even the point, im sure there's so much more to you and if your colleges can't see it, that just shows how they are not capable of recognizing the real stuff, you don't have to be pressured by others around you, just focus on yourself and you'll see how amazing you really are and people around you that actually matter always know what a great person you are!

This song has been my quarantine salvation. My parents are split up and last year I moved at my Dad's with his couple and my half sister, things have changed so much ever since, my mom sstayed alone, this was certainly a challenging year. Furthermore, in the start of this year in a trip I had to Thailand I met a beautiful girl from Europe and we fell in love back there and returning to our countries we tried sooo bad to make a Long Distance Relationship work...
The relationship made me very anxious because there was no other place I wanted to be except where she lives, it was 3 moths of pure agony, longing, imagination and desire until she finally she broke up with me. I loved her so much. It was a super sour taste and one of the saddest and most heartbreaking moments of my life and being locked up didn't help a bit. All these things I've mentioned, growing up, my career and the decisions I make right now (that are knowingly going to define a lot of things in my adulthood) make me so scared of life, I want to give my best, I know I have lot to give but end up doing shit.
And this songs has been a huge help throught these rough, raw, depressing times...

I named my daughter Vienna Rosalie. This song always makes me cry, and now when I hear it, it is an ode to myself and to her. Ive been waiting for her my whole life and the lyrics are rich with wisdom and lessons I wish I had learned earlier. I have always been the over achiever who sacrifices too much. I faced the Great Recession through my 20s when trying to kick off a career and now im my 30s had her during the covid pandemic, in extreme isolation, working from home and pining for the opportunities and freedoms I traded for work in the past, believing them too expensive and always planning for the future. Anyway, what a beautiful and wise song. I will dance with my daughter to this on her wedding day, if I get to be so fortunate.

I'm 66 and just learned of this song. I wish I'd heard it when it was originally issued. It's written about people like me I don't even remember anything about the 1980's or 1990's because I work obsessed me. The first time I heard this brilliant work of art I was about 13 years old. Had "the stranger" on cassette tape and i played it on repeat doing my homework night after night. Hearing this tonight took me right back to being young again, a "crazy child" I suppose. Gotta keep remembering Billy Joel singing "only fools are satisfied"☮️❤️
When I think of this song, I don’t think about appreciating youth. Instead, I think about my mother. She spent most of her 30s-50s (she’s 53) paranoid about some people taking something that belongs to her (I’m not getting into details but yeah). To the point where I still remember her struggling with that, since I was a child (I’m 21). Now that I am older, I am trying to help her keep that thing and I am trying to keep people from taking it but this song reminds me that she has always been worried about something that, at the end of the day, will not matter. She will not take that something to the grave. Heck, she won’t take anything to the grave but she has daughters and granddaughters that appreciate her so much and she does us but I just wish she lived the moment and would be happy, without letting that one thing get to her. This song helps all ages i am so grateful. I've had some hard times and am more like a mother to my brother than a sister but i am also his best friend because with how life is here i am all he's got so i will be everything he needs to make him happy. I've been forced to grow up since i was 6 acting like i was 18 because my mother left. And i got it in my head that i owe the world so every chance i can i am helping or doing something for someone else i've never really done anything for myself. This song reminds me that i can slow down, take a minute to breathe, and just be alive, so that's what im doing for the first time in my life even though it's only for 3 and a half minutes.
