- Sunrise Express Izumo & Seto (寝台特急サンライズ出雲瀬戸号) is Japan's only overnight sleeper train which runs everyday (日本で唯一の毎日運行の夜行列車). Today, I book the cheapest private room called “Solo” (最安の個室 B寝台個室ソロ) from Tokyo Station to Izumoshi Station (東京駅から出雲市駅). It's a 950km (590 miles) trip that takes about 12 hours. When booking a Solo room, even if you are a foreign tourist with a JR pass, you will need to go to the ticket office and pay an additional sleeper private room fee in advance. In addition, I recommend you reserve a seat on the right side. This is because you can see other trains and a nice view of Lake Shinji. When you arrive in Izumo, it's a good idea to visit the famous Izumo Taisha Shrine (officially Izumo Oyashiro 出雲大社 いずもおおやしろ) and eat the local specialty, Wariko Soba noodles (割子蕎麦).

* So many security cameras at Tokyo Station.
* Taking a warm shower on the train while it's snowing outside was an unusual experience.
* If you have 12 hours, you can fly to the United States, but I felt that the slow journey itself was the real pleasure of traveling by train.
* The bed was fully flat and the mattress was soft so I didn't get tired at all.
* I recommend booking a seat on the right side of the train so you can see the other trains and the beautiful view of Lake Shinji.
* Just in case, I bought a lucky charm for marriage at Izumo Taisha Shrine. (For myself)
* Izumo City's soba noodle was is good because you can enjoy various flavors at once.

@@Can-rk6yj Where I am (Romania) trains are faster and less expensive because our country is very mountainous and it's tough and slow to drive through mountains plus there are few roads so highways are extremely congested especially during busy times of the year, while railways run relatively straight, from point A to point B. Trains are plenty here so they are cheap too.

@@yorchester I would assume it's mainly for Chinese & Indian tourists. Believe it or not, many of those types of tourists dont have "sit toilets". They use "squat toilets". So, the sign saying not to squat on the sit toilet is relevant.
50 years ago sit toilets were relatively new to Japan, too. They had those signs way back then. :)

I love this. I love taking trains when I travel from Denmark to Czech Republic even though it takes more time than plane it just feels nicer to me. I wish I could take a train like this, the price is super good too honestly. I would be in heaven to just watch the country pass by that huge window with some music in my ears, lying down and relaxing without the other passengers around.

와 잠깐만 너무 낭만적이야... 저는 갠적으로 약간 방같이 되어있는 넓은 싱글룸이나 비즈니스 룸보다는 오히려 이렇게 아늑하고 편안하면서도 큼지막한 창문 하나 달려있는 낭만적인 쪼매난 방이 더 좋더라구요.. ㅎㅎ 밤에 도시를 따라 달리며 저런 침대칸에서 컵라면 하나 끓여먹으면 진짜 낭만적일듯...

But they also have strict rules not everything is perfect. People their work their ass off. Over work etc. is common there.
@@madara3278 yes but there’s a reason to it. Japan is still an emerging and mainly self sustainable economy, meaning it mainly rely on its
labour to generate its income hence the overworking and excess workload. But at least the peoples work is evident and they get to enjoy the fruits of their labour as their country is truly amazing in many ways.
@@commoq3764 Japanese would probably benefit if they could trade some of their material wealth away for a more human-centric society. Same is true of the US I think, but not quite to the same degree, although many countries are headed in the way of Japan and US with regard to loneliness and isolation. Look at loneliness and suicide metrics. I don’t see how that’s necessary or how it’s justified by the fact they are less supported by natural resources.
But I only know the tiniest fraction of all the things there are to know, and maybe you know something I don’t.
Also, I’m not knocking Japan, I’m sure it is very wonderful in many respects and that many people thrive there.
