Hi Adrian, thank you for your effort. I hope you discuss in the next episode how can I specialize in a specific field. You talked about many specializations but many newbies translators don't know how they can select a specific field to specialize in, I mean, do I have to read books to choose a specialization that I am interested in or do I need to get a degree or take courses?

Yes thats definitely an upcoming video, not part of the series, but separately.

I have been a freelance translator since 2018. I 'm starting to learn about subtitle . I may be wrong but it looks to me that if you can translate and with the new softwares you can start offering your service in a few months without too many problems. You don't need any special education.

The service you can definitely offer, just depends how well. There are differences in translating for a book, for a website, for subtitles etc. But yes, you can definitely learn it yourself too

Did you study in university prior to translating?

Hello! I've descovered your channel pretty recently, and I LOVE it! Thank you for your work🙂
I have a QUESTION: is there such specialty as academic translation? Is it worth looking into or people just learn English nowadays?

Thank you for the video, and I think that you should make a specialization video about Tecnical Translators. Also, I didn't really understand how to put a price for subtitling, so if you can explain it more easily, and thank you.

Hi, Tamir! You can check out the advice we give on the Subtle website (“How much should I charge for my work?” in the “Tips for AV Translators” section). It’s pretty much in line with what Chloe had said in the video (estimating the equivalent hourly rate). See also the advice on the AVTE website (“Know your rights” ->“Wannabe?”). I hope it helps. Good luck!

Could you do a video on technical translating? I have a degree in Professional and Technical Communication/Writing, and I'd love to incorporate my languages [DE/FR] into work :)

Hey Adrian, thank you so much for your wonderful content.
I have a question if you don't mind, I'm just starting out as a translator, i graduated from my university with an English literature degree and I'm a native Syrian/Arabian language speaker. I'm confident in my ability to translate any text, i have an ICDL certificate so i know how to work with Word documents and whatnot.
My question is what kind of programs do i need to learn to use? i want to be broad and to use my skills to subtitle vedios and such. i hope you answer my question. thank you so much.

Hi there, I would recommend you start with a free tool to test out some subtitling. You can use Subtitle Edit or Aegisub. And for CAT tools, I would recommend you start with a trial version of memoQ or Trados.
