This was 25 years ago, i was locked in jail as a 16-17 year old. Wow, these discussions were already happening. I'm 41 now and the light is finally shining through. My grandmother told me about God in the 90s, she was a devoted Christian if only I listened to her more.

It’s ok bro. I’m 21 and at 14-18 I was runnin the street. Trying to be someone I clearly wasn’t. Sold drugs. And was sleeping around and then I met the Lord. And my grandma always taught me biut the Lord and even taught others in church. If only we would’ve listened 😂but see. You now have the ability to relate to those who’ve been behind bars and felt like there is no way out. Now you can come to them from a place of understanding. God uses the misfits most of all!

I went most of my life completely turned away from God. I didn't even give it any thought; the world around me said it wasn't so, so it wasn't. But when I was at my lowest I prayed and he saved me! I look at all these videos too and think "Wow, I was wasting my life away while God was still working." It's a humbling thought that reminds us that not everything is about us, but about the Lord.

I to was in prison at 16-19 as I was tried as an adult. Thats when I first heard the word Salvation. A seed was sowed but still I didn't truly listen. I was born a Catholic and did all the schools and rituals they offered but nothing was really taught. It wasn't till I was 30 facing life plus 20 years in prison did I turn to Christ and live for God. I am now 47 and I have been a Pastor for 9 years now and Lead a Motorcycle Ministry and I get to serve in my home church. God is good, Loving and forgiving! God Bless You!

      @bonnie43uk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@stewwweee Ok, so you're asking why I waste my time disagreeing with Cliffe's point of view, that's a fair question. I was raised up to believe in Christianity, it played a massive part in my early life, the fear of Hell was an integral part of me beginning to question what I was being taught, over time I thought more about the whole subject of whether or not a God exists, it's something I think about a lot, probably because of my upbringing, it's not something I can shake off. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me that it's not true. That's a big deal isn't it? Don't you as a Christian believe that I am hellbound.. whatever that entails, .. is that a big deal to you that non believers are going to Hell?, is it something you care about at all?
Truth matters to me, and I want to know as many true things as possible and as few false things as possible. So the question I would ask you is, how do you go about determining what is true, and what is not true?
This certainly isn't a waste of my time, i love having these conversations, I'm sure Cliffe enjoys debating with Students aswell, .. have you ever seen any student be convinced by his arguments?. I'd be interested to get your views. What is your native tongue btw?

These classics are amazing. It’s super interesting to see the change in people’s decorum from the 1990s to now. I would argue there are many aspects that have changed. Here’s a few I noticed:
    1. People actually asked better, more thought out questions back then.
    2. People were more passionate.
    3. At the same time, although people argued more passionately, they were also more polite in the way that they interrupted less and let the other person finish their point before speaking again. They also seemed to hear out Cliffe more before responding. (Increased attention spans). They also asked their questions In a more respectful, tasteful manner as a whole.
    4. The crowd was more respectful. Laughing less at points they disagree with, not interrupting, less chatter in between the debates. More just being present in the moment and watching the “show” and listening to each speaker without getting emotional.
Super, super interesting. I think it would be interesting to hear Cliffe speak on the changes on society / college students throughout the decades of debating them.
    Please keep the classics coming.

      5. No one's on there phones... Which coincidentally is the basis on why things are different. Add cell phones back then and the world is the way we live now. It all stems from technology.

When I see the recent videos sometimes I can’t even understand what the young people of today are trying to say
They can’t keep a thought in their head
They say the word like three times per sentence

Cliff is an inclusivist and talks like one but then he says he doesn’t know how those people who never heard of God get judged .
I think he doesn’t do that because he is scared of the backlash that he would get from the exclusivists who say that anyone that doesn’t proclaim Jesus as lord and savior is going to hell whether he heard of him or not .
Inclusivism was the view that most of the early Christian’s believed in

As secularism and atheism grow the world is becoming a better place, the shackles that religion has placed on man can finally be banished to the past.
We no longer need the control that religion exercises over us.
Religion is a non-falsifiable hypothesis that puts forth no useful predictions about how the nature of things should be if the theory is true, and so it cannot be tested or falsified. It is a belief system, not a knowledge system. It does not explain or predict observed facts.

Cliffe is like the best chess player😊. He chooses the most difficult venues (universities) to establish the existence of God vis a vis Lord Jesus and beats them/ students & professors hands down. It is very difficult to do that especially when your surrounded by the best brains in the land. More so since its very to difficult to educate individuals who are educated may be different fields but have their own world views and opinions about life and how we came to exist. Evolution on the other hand giving them a lame explanation ( i.e. life by accident) they are left with no better option and thus seek evidence about God. What we should notice however is they do ask for evidence when it comes to theory of evolution since that's been categorised under 'accident'. So Cliffe takes all the pain to explain God and wins them over whether they accept God there after or not is entirely up to them, but he's done his job. Keep it going its so nice to see educated people discuss in a logical manner as opposed to the offences street preachers face when they confront atheist, gays, other religious people etc. There are certain students nevertheless during Cliffe's sessions who behave rudely. All the very best Cliffe👍👏👏

The predestination discussion is a difficult one. I wonder what Cliff would say about this passage from Romans:
“Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory-”

it might seem difficult, but only if you know just the Calvinistic interpretation. so, let me tell you a few things about Romans 9:
      - there are chapters before and after Rom 9, so please read everything in context
      - the audience for Paul are Jews that think that they will be saved just because they are Jews, not 21st-century gentiles concerned about soteriology
      - youtube search: Romans 9: A Non-Calvinist Interpretation by Evidence Unseen , or check other interpretations
      - most importantly, compare how many times Bible directly contradicts the theistic determinism a.ka Calvinism, with how many times it seemingly supports it.
lastly, God Bless You, no matter if you are a Calvinist or Non-Calvinist

Everlasting life is a human concept some religions have invented, go check it out, Valhalla, Heaven, Nirvana, there are lots of them. It's a nice thought for a lot of people. Cliffe always tells the students to "read Matthew Mark Luke and John for themselves", those accounts do not ring true to me, they read like invented stories, people are free to believe them if they wish. Do i have the complete free will to dismiss them and go on my merry way, or is there a degree of coercion and threat involved.. in saying there is a penalty to pay unless I accept the stories, if that's true, my free will to dismiss them is being heavily compromised.

You do have the free will to dismiss them but then you have no way of going to heaven without Jesus, Son of God. Like it or don’t, it’s just how it is. Now you’ve read the ‘stories’, ask Jesus, Son of God of the Bible to meet you then be patient and wait for His response. It would be foolish to reject Him before you’ve reached out to Him.

As an ex Christian, I have reached out to Jesus on more occasions than I can remember, it was the sound of complete silence that made me think perhaps it's all in our heads. Maybe this character doesn't really exist outside of our imagination.

And then willing to face imprisonment, torture and execution. People don't do that for something they know to be absolutely false. They had nothing to gain. No financial reward, no power, no earthly prestige, no property and no perks.

    • @bonnie43uk
      @bonnie43uk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@shadowcolorado3668 I get what you're saying shadow, but, like i said, those stories to me just sound like invented stories, esp all the magical stuff, if you buy into it from an early age, and everyone else has bought into it.. you accept it as true without using your own critical thinking skills. I could write a fictional story about men who faced torture and execution unless they lied, .. and they all refused. A good writer could easily make up such a story and make it seem real, even though none of it actually happened in real life. We humans have written some incredible tales of the endurance of mankind over the last few thousand years.

Hello, if they were invited stories, what for? Why would a group of Jewish men invent a story that ostracizes them from the community, from society? As you look at history you clearly see SOMETHING happened, the question is what? What threat? It is a relationship, either you love God or you love yourself, it's not a threat you are experiencing God's common grace every day, food, love, health, life, all good. Without God there is no good.

When they talk about there being more to life than matter and energy they should really bring up the consciousness experience.
It really runs contrary to the ideas of materialism, as I could go on and on about how logically absurd being an observer of this reality is for the context of physical reality - it's an entirely new thing with crazy implications.
If I was just a body I wouldn't be experiencing things from the perspective of myself, as there would be no self from which there is observing.
It is why we are not machines or robots or nonliving matter, we exist as more than thought because such thought has a ""thing"" of some kind (that ""thing"" being oneself) observing it.
We care about others because we know deep in someone else's mind there is a life being lived, and it is an experience BECAUSE there is a THEM.
Whether or not you believe in a god you can acknowledge how special and valuable this experience is.
