I got a Porta2 in 1993 and used it for about 8 years. This really warms my heart. I still have all of the tapes I made of it, original songs that catalogue my youth.
THIS is the sound you're supposed to get on these 4 tracks. You've absolutely nailed the marriage of sound and songwriting and recording! This song sounds better recorded in this way than it would all pristine! You're an expert! Beautiful.
The porta 02 is designed for recording on type II tapes and this looks likes like a maxel type I. Though the decreased sound quality works with the style
I also stumbled across this with a portastudio search- but this song is so beautiful, and this arrangement on to tape works brilliantly, it made me STOP and listen... Want to find more of your music now... 👍

i just ran an EV RE 15 on the vocal and tracked the guitar with a SM57. Went back through and did another run of guitars and background vocals on the other two tracks. a lil panning and its sounds alright.

Hey man, lovely song I thought it was great. I’m tryna get my hands on this same recorder but how would I convert the tape digitally. What tools would I need to do this ?
@@keenanomearamusic sweet man thank you so much. And I’ve been researching how I’d have to use effect pedals with this tape machine. So far I’ve never came across any vids of people using pedals with this machine. Majority of my research has just been people plugging into this same model with no effect and I’m assuming no amp. Do you know how I’d have to do this process. (Ps Sorry for the long question I just really love this kinda stuff and I’m new to it.)
This is beautiful. I came across your SC page and your song "If I Could Leave" has been stuck in my head for a long time now. The tape sound suits your music so good! Is there any chance I could buy/download the songs you recorded on tape? I believe there are four on your SC (at least all of them have the same cover art), and I'd be more than glad to support ya.
Do you recall what type of cassette tape (not the recorder) you recorded this to? I've been recording with the porta 02 on maxell tapes which might be too hifi for what I'm after.I like the lofi sound you got
i dont like the maxwell sound on mine either. i have this same model tascam. when i was in a band , years ago, i would drop a $40 dynamic mic about six foot off the floor & just record the whole band at once. it was a smaller size room. TDK . ......i think. lol. i hope this helps
Can you describe how you got your guitar sound on this recording? Is it just direct into the porta02 or is there some kind for reverb, external mic, pre-amp?
