Easy 5-minute fix? Thanks to this video, less than 5 minutes. Valve shut off, flushed, quarter turn and pulled right out, flipped the gasket, put it back in place, and the leak is gone. I expect to have another 15 years out of it. The first video I found on 2-stage flush valves talked about removing the tank altogether; I'm glad I kept looking and found this!
Very interesting. I’m having the same issue. Was worried about trying to find the right new seal. I’ll try cleaning and flipping the current old one to see if that fixes the slow leak.
Ok, there is another part of this cylinder. That one goes through the toilet tank - and there is another seal. So it depends where it leaks. This seal (as shown in this video) is 99% of time bad, but there are also few instances where you have to replace the seal below the tank as well. Then you have to remove tank to get to it. It is good to know about location of both seals so you can determine what to replace. Good for you it was the upper seal.
I don't normally press the like button on youtube videos. But you earned mine! Particularly when you showed the water splashing on you after forgetting to replace overflow tube. That's raw informative experience right there that I won't forget when I follow these exact steps today.
Thank you for posting this video! I was able to fix the toilet in about 10 minutes (took me a bit to pry off the old seal). Again, thank you for sharing this video, you saved me from a lot of unnecessary stress and headaches!

15 years in and your video was the one that helped me the first time I came across one of these. Only thing i would add is tightening the packing nut on the shutoff valve afterwards with a small cresent wrench.
Awesome! Glad to hear that. I ended up having to take the seal pack back as none fit mine perfectly. But after cleaning and reinstalling the old seal my leak went away. I still have a new canister waiting to install if/when the leak comes back.

Just flip your gasket :) I found a small tear on the gasket. So I just flipped it. Working perfectly now. My gasket is really soft silicone not rubber. If you have a rubber gasket is probably really hard by now and at that point you need to replace it.

Okay, plumber installed all new float valve and dual flush plunger valve, seal, bolts and washers. Now, almost every hour or two, the toilet fills for a few seconds. No exterior leaks. I dont know if its bad parts, or one of many adjustments needed on one of the parts. How does one isolate the problem?
Sorry, just saw this message. Did you end up figuring out the problem? My guess is bad parts or bad install. If it's loosing water then it's getting around the seal somehow, either the seal is damaged or not seated properly.
