The 53 is best for reading at home.

i have a 53 and ordered 63 last week. My 53 was messed up. I think some tampering in mail happened. The glued perimeter was undone top and bottom and on side. It was a discount 53 also. So im giving another shot starting with a non discounted 63. If this one is ok il get another 53. Love the yap and inside out leather with 36gsm. All others are going to 28gsm now. Besides thomas nelson humble lamb but i believe they have latex inside liners. So its getting hard to come by the thicker better quality. My Schuyler reference bible has 32 i believe. Its not bad but still prefer 36. When it all pans out if this rl allen another bad one. Il just go with schuyler for wide margin and thomas nelson for regular size goatskin large print refference kjv even though its latex inside cover. I have a cambridge turquoise for the reason of no xtra added notes and goatskin in and out but 28gsm . But i think i still need to get a facsimile 1611 to preserve the word of God. I still plan on marking out the unbiblical addings in mark 16 and other areas in my nelsons and rl's. I enjoy my turquoise the larger print but it peeves me the pages are just to flimsy.

You didn’t ask me, but as I recently bought a Turqouse and then sent it back due to damage and spent the refund on a Long primer 63, I’ll have a go at an answer :)
I think Allan’s Longprimer generally has a more appealing aesthetic. The highland goat coverings give them a very distinct look, combined with that full yap, it’s got a very antiquarian vibe that I think a lot of people who’re looking for a traditional presentation of the KJV text, in premium package want.
The Turqoise looks lovely- simple, elegant etc. But it has more of a ‘brand new’ bible look. No yapp in addition to the goat skin with tighter pebble grain that Cambridge use, and the shades of colour give it a very clean, neat presentation compared to the Long primer’s more vintage vibe.
Offering a full yapp version of the Turqoise was a step in the right direction. The calf skin Cambridge used was beautiful to the touch. They should do that more. The full yapp concord’s that EVB sold did really well. People want to have that option.
Regards the text itself; personally the Turqoise was an odd reading experience. The large type, the large amount of ‘white space’ on the page. All those things ‘should’ make it more clear and readable. But for me it didn’t. It felt like reading through a looking glass. Not bad, with an adjustment period maybe I would’ve gotten over it, but just not what I’m used to.
The Long primer is slightly smaller type. The text is also more condensed on the page, making the ratio of ink:negative space ‘feel’ right. It seems to fit more. I never thought this sort of thing would effect my reading, so this has been a learning experience for me.
Outside of aesthetics the LP has the edge over the Turqoise in that the LP has thicker paper. The chain-reference system which is quite cool, plus the LP is black letter and the Turqoise is red, which makes a difference to some people.
I love the Cambridge look. I hope they offer more full yap options in future and use that amazing soft calf skin on other editions. Maybe up their ribbon game and offer a black letter version of the Turqoise text?
    These are my thoughts

since i don't write in my bibles, the 63 falls behind the other two. and since i don't really carry my premiums anywhere, the 43's advantage in portability is not worth the trade off in better yapp protection, greater opacity, and more breathing room in the 53. actually, for me, the 53c is the star of the whole lineup.

They are beautiful Bibles and I have owned all of them, but I prefer Cambridge KJVs at this point. None of the Longprimers italicize the text added by the translators. I do like that feature whether or not it makes any difference in the reading experience.

  • @einarengemoen2486
    @einarengemoen2486 ปีที่แล้ว

Tim, you know a lot about what’s moving around in peoples minds concerning Bibles. Why do you honestly think the Longprimer has gained such popularity over for instance the Turquoise? After all, the Longprimer is one rare instances of the KJV without italics.
Do you think it has to do with the Oxford text? Is it the formatting of the pages? Text type? Bible size? Allan binding/paper? Amount of references? Formatting of the references? Is it a trend?
I have many Bibles, and among them a Cambridge Turquoise in black goat. It stands out to me as such a readable and beautiful KJV. But one rarely hears about it. It’s always the Longprimer. The cover I get, but still? What do you think? Is it an Allan preference or something else?

53 out of the 3. They could use the same paper and such and make a thinner bible by taking out the references and the concordance and other extras in the back. I think they should have a text only edition for each size/edition. I don't use the extras and is just a waste of space.

I agree….text only would be the correct way to have a primary Bible….these were books/letters meant to be read out loud in public so that the Word can cut and divide into a persons soul as Yahweh has designed it. Not man made sermons and such. Let Jesus give the sermon
      Read out loud
      James…read out loud
      Paul…read out loud….etc….
If it’s too hard to bear then the Word is doing what God designed it to do…people reach repentance by hearing the Word and feeling conviction....someone asked me if I’d desire to be a pastor…i said no…..the only Shepherding I can do is give someone the Word…..Jesus is our teacher….not men…
If we read Jesus words out loud…then there won’t be much congregation left in a public setting…..if Jesus were here religion would hate him because he deals with sin and the heart….he’d be enemy of the state!…John 12:48…come Jesus soon
