    Mulberries are so under rated.

Yes! I used to pick the mulberries off the trees at our grandmother's house. She would sugar them and put them over ice cream.

I have really struggled to find a mulberry jelly recipe in my old cookbooks. Usually they are my standbys, but in this case, I am so thankful for you tube and your competent jelly recipe! Thank you!

Jelly making looks tricky! Thanks for the warning about not doubling recipes; I never would have thought of that. Right now my garden isn't producing enough for preserving, but I've been buying some fruit and veg from the store to practice with. It's exciting to start learning these skills!

Good idea to practice! Yes before I knew about how pectin actually works, I tried doubling a recipe for apple jelly. Ended up with a lot of syrup ... but at least it was delicious. And I have to admit even though it soaked up into my toast, it was kind of good that way. 😄

We have a couple mulberry trees on the property we just moved into last year. I’m definitely interested in preserving them this year.

Where did you get the bag and bowl combo?

Hi Shelley! :) I ordered off of Amazon ... I think it was only 10 bucks, but the bowl did not come with. Just strainer bag and stand that can fit on any bowl or pan!

I don’t like tart of any kind, do I have to add lemon juice?

And make sure the pot is way big enough so you don’t boil it out all over your stove when you get to the 2nd hard boil. Don’t ask me how I know this 🤷‍♂️

I use a metal perforated coffee filter from a perkulator to strain. It has small holes. Why is so much sugar added to the mulberry recipe? I read that mulberries are good for controlling your glucose. Adding sugar will only defeats that purpose. Going to try both the jam and the jelly. I also will make mulberry syrup.

Thank you for your video. We tried to follow it but found that 5 of the six jars sealed but none of them jelled. The exact ingredients we used are as follows: 3.5 cups mulberry juice ;5 cups of sugar; 2 tbsp lemon juice ; 1 57g pack of certo pectin cystals. Mix juice and pectin ,lemon juice bring to hard boil , add 5 cups of sugar ; bring to hard boil again for exactly 1 minute. Take off burner; ladle into warm jars half inch headspace ; tighten lid hand tight; put in boiling water canner for exactly 10 minutes. we are at elevation 746 feet. Let set for 36 hours at room temp. Result they are all like liquid not jell. Help !

I did the exact same process, and my berries didn't give me like any juice with 9 cups of berries :( What did I do wrong ? When warming slowly, not much juice was released, then for 10 minutes I got only half a cup !

I don't know... I started with 12 cups of big berries. A wild mulberry tree... I put them in a magic bullet blender.. strained it through a large strainer.. twice. Got about a quart and half of juice . Not sure how much jelly I end up with.

My mulberries are not particularly sweet and have little flavor. I may just mix into my rhubarb jam. I can freeze the rhubarb until the mulberries come in a few weeks later.
