Fluorescences

Cet après-midi je suis tombé à la renverse d’admiration pour des photos effectuées en 2010 par un groupe d’étudiants russes. Cela me rappelait ma fascination pour la lumière durant toute mon enfance. J’avais eu à huit ans un petit fanal qui contenait une lumière rouge, une lumière verte et une lumière blanche. J’étais littéralement aspiré par ces lumières et lorsque la nuit tombait j’enfouissais ce fanal sous mes couvertures et je collais mais yeux à sa vitre pour tout absorber. Nous venons de la lumière et maintenant tous savent que nous sommes faits des matériaux à partir desquels sont constituées les galaxies : nous sommes des poussières d’étoiles. En 2010 un groupe d'une douzaine d’étudiants russes ont produit ces belles photos. Une lampe fluorescente et des tubes néons peut briller non seulement à partir d'une alimentation électrique directe, mais également à partir d'un puissant champ électromagnétique situé à côté de la lampe. Des tubes fluorescents ont été utilisés à proximité d’une ligne de 10 kilovolts. De 2 à 12 ont tubes ont permis ces photos parfois harmonieuses comme la dentelle des aurores boréales et parfois éclatantes. Les photographies furent prises à longue exposition. J’ai tout de suite eu l’idée de composer une musique pour accompagner ces photos auxquelles se sont ajoutées celles de la lumière traversant les glaces des rives d’Islande, celle des volcans nordiques et aussi celle des aurores boréales. Les jeunes russes partagent cette réalité d’être du Nord comme nous au Canada et au Québec. Il y a dans ces photos, une vibrance, une pureté incandescente et une fascination pour la lumière qui a parcouru toute ma vie. J’ai intitulé ma musique Fluorescences. When I was eight years old, I had a little lantern that contained a red light, a green light, and a white light. I was literally sucked into those lights and when night fell I would bury this lantern under my covers and stick my eyes to its window to absorb it all. We come from light and now everyone knows that we are made of the materials that galaxies are made of: we are stardust. In 2010 a group of a dozen Russian students produced these beautiful photos. A fluorescent lamp and neon tubes can shine not only from a direct power supply, but also from a strong electromagnetic field located next to the lamp. Fluorescent tubes were used near a 10 kilovolt line. From 2 to 12 tubes allowed these photos, sometimes harmonious like the lace of the northern lights and sometimes brilliant. The photographs were taken at long exposure. I immediately had the idea of ​​composing music to accompany these photos to which were added those of the light crossing the ice of the shores of Iceland, that of the northern volcanoes and also that of the northern lights. Young Russians share this reality of being from the North like us in Canada and Quebec. There is in these photos, a vibrancy, an incandescent purity and a fascination with the light which traversed all my life. I titled my music Fluorescences.
