One thing that is interesting to do is using Wreath of Fire then use ice spells right after. You get mobility for chasing plus extra damage from Wreath of Fire even while casting ice spell
Been running just that after ready this and my god is that some juicy damage
BLK is very versatile now with that yeah. thoguh id prefer power, not even MCH gets to run away while damaging
Finally got in a game with you. I was the drk at the start with the square. Couldn’t have asked for a worse game. Double teamed the whole game. Hopefully will do better next time. I definitely need to try the new blm
Glad to finally play alongside ya :D yea the double teaming really did not help with our teams division but did give me the chance to test out the black mage under pressure :D
@ I feel drk is super squishy now. And the cc chain spam is just ridiculous makes it so hard to play when the teams dont follow up on salted earth. Even that seems to not work as well now. But that’s what trying new jobs is for. If you ever wanna go do a pre-made let me know. I’m Silver Zephyr in game
@@charliecarter2617 I get the feeling Dark Knight was intentionally released weak makes it easier to see how the other jobs perform and makes it easy to buff later on
@@salamanderYT definitely needs a buff. I’ve only played drk and sch since the patch. Sch is fun as always
Yeah, i find it hard to use the fire spells. Most of the time, by the time the cast is over they're already out of range. I mostly rely on a wreath of fire buffed ice spells and xenoglossy.
Same to easy to miss with so I reckon there will be a cast buff for the fire rotation on the way

There going to be fun although I did notice It looks like they have not yet touched VPR's LB yet when I tested it on the Dummy's it looked like you could land 3-4 attacks before damage starts

I think I was still a fan of old black mage, but i've also been having fun on the new iteration of it, so i'm torn. I'm a big fan of xenoglossy but i do miss instant cast flare in my LB.
Maybe once the class receives a buff It will be your new favourite version

The real frontlines experience is watching your team split between the two s ranks and lose both lol I should give the new blm a go, looks fun.

I will admit that, as a former pvp black mage main, i REALLY hated the changes. Just because it was so different. But watching this I kind of want to stay faithful, I look forward to the advanced guide and think I will give it a second chance.
I was thinking it would be a struggle for those off you who mained it before too me it feels like there is much more uptime with the difference being you time CC more rather then spam it off
@@salamanderYT Yeah definitely! The upside of this being that I've found myself absolutely loving red mage, so even though I'm relearning black mage I'll take that as a positive!
I was really surprised with how much "boxability" they gave PvP BLM with this iteration. Ice Wreath's 20% mit lasts for 10 seconds, Xeno can heal you for 8,000 and you get *two* of them, and Burst is now insta-cast. I mean all of BLM's survivability was on it's copious amount of CC but this seems like a lot lol.
iirc Fire Wreath does work with all of your spells, not just fire ones, so you can immediately go into ice stance and just start throwing AoE's. I also do like how Xeno can help you move around while you're in fire stance if you need to reposition. Frost Star also seems ridiculous if you can throw it in the middle of a teamfight after everyone used their Purify's.
There seems to be a lot more nuance to BLM now in how to play it besides CC spam and I'm really excited to learn how to be good with the job. What do you think about just switching between stances to get to your AoE's as soon as possible when dunking into a crowd? Just Fire/Blizzard 1, Paradox, High Fire/Blizzard, switch and repeat?
The Xeno was coming in clutch for heals so many times yesterday it was great :D oh right so the Fire wreath is still going off when switching back to ice good to know thank you. that probably works best cause after you cast your fire spell you can very quickly xeno a week target as well then as a option will need to play a few rounds to give it a shot I also want to try casting the freeze and jumping in with burst that would be some tasty damage
@@salamanderYT It might even be cheeky to pop Ice Wreath before Bursting into a crowd so that when you trigger your Guard to get out they're eating a crapton of retalitory damage. Plus, even with all the Guard-piercers and mitigators that they introduced you'll still have a ridiculous amount of effective health with the shield from Burst and the mit from Ice Wreath.

New Black Mage is a sitting duck that's now reliant on everyone else. The new utility is nice, but this class is gutted.
does anyone know how I can get to the 1 million damage range to PCs in frontlines? I started playing PVP for the first time last month, right before the new patch. I cannot get to the 1 million + damage that other black mages do. what am I doing wrong? i get a lot of assists and several KOs. It's hard to get in line to attack AOE because they'll instantly target me if I get too close. Then if I have a flare ready the team usually runs away and my cast gets interrupted. Or my team backs off and I'm standing there like a duck ready to be massacred. I think most damage I've ever done to PCs was 500k. do i just need more practice, playing more games to get this down?
I made a Advanced guide covering that covers combos and actions if that helps, you will spend most your time staying mobile in ice, and switch to fire when your close with distractred enemys giving you time to cast, 500k is pretty normal if you have been getting passive teams
@@salamanderYT Thanks, I'll check it out. I just got done with PVP tonight and actually was doing better, hit over 700k this time, though maybe because it's easier to do more damage in Onsal lol.
Idk how it is in frontiles but in crystal its trash, the casts are so long you can rarely get a fire spell off
Not tried it yet but I can imagine trying to cast Fire in that level off aggression off CC right now must be impossible at times
@salamanderYT to be honest I feel like frontlines got a lot of love this patch, which I thought was needed, so I'm happy with the changes overall!
Fully agree. Whoever redesigned this job did a stellar job. It retained its identity and has far more versatilty and nuance while being balanced. The only thing I'm still not sure about is the new Paradox. Will have to play a bit more to get a feel for it, but currently it's a bit of nothingburger to me. Unless they intend to have you swap stances really often, I don't find myself using the ability all that much.
Flare Star is also quite powerful with its dot but Frost Star will probably be king for dropping those CC bombs on the enemy team.
For funsies I played a 4 BLM stack with friends dropping coordinated Flare Stars on groups and watch groups melt. Felt like BLM is the new SCH now with the added DoT 😂😂
Instead of paradox applying a debuff to a target before 7.x, it will now apply a buff to you. Paradox will automatically give you max stacks, which will make you be able to cast your aoe off the bat.
It’s definitely a weird skill though. I guess the devs adjusted it since BLM’s combo to aoe is longer now. It went from 1-2-aoe, to 1-2-3-aoe.
But what makes it weird is that after you casted the combo, you’re back to 1-2-aoe until you switch stances. It feels like a nerf since you now have an extra step to reach aoe spell at the start. Unless I want aoe now, I wouldn’t use it a lot either. The damage is mediocre and players don’t crowd that often, making it of less value.
I like the single target combo more since I can fully apply my damage to the enemy diver before other opponents start joining in, making my aoe spell casted at a better time rather than wasting it on one opponent.
Hopefully this helps. The devs did explain the kit confusingly :/
You mean the DoT that DoTs two times for 8k damage...?

Think Paradox is one off those skills that is just overall better in Crystalline conflict when multiple players rush you for that instant aoe access, Some Friends off mine also want to run that 4 flarestars, into Blizzard rotation and ignore guard with wreath is nasty
Been playing alot of the new BLM and when my team is agressive I can do some pretty crazy stuff. Fire Wreath working on all spells, even ice spells, is great. And now that Deep Freeze doesnt need a build up, it's alot less work to catch people off guard with it. Dont have to bait purifies.
But yeah, BLM also has a ton more survivability. I can box alot more with it, wven in FL. I can see why people are sad about the loss of sleep and non LB Deep Freeze, but I think the current version is healthier for the game.
Agreed I think given some time more and more will come around to this version and will be a roll i shall play more often
Blm is fine, but pvp is still trash.
I lost count of how many times i had the opportunity to kill a someone, the guy simply presses heal 4 times (don't have the capacity to even walk while heal) use guard and then run.
Bizarre, this potions and guard system is horrible, unless they change this on 7.2 frontline will be bad until 8.1 or maybe forever.
I know this system it's good for Crystal conflict to not overwhelm the healers, but this ruined the game on frontlines. Square needs to fire people who made this new pvp.
I guess somewhere between 3-5 months and frontline will be in a nice balance again 6.1 went through struggles to start with too with the early balancing
Unfortunately this is also been pretty much my entire experience, that and being singled out repeatedly and chased across the map mid team fight to be killed before I have the chance to really do anything. 😅
