Here's a video with some photos and bits of video I took at the Royal Armouries in Leeds last weekend, I thought some people might like to see it. More info in the description...
Great video... Really top job.... Brilliant place in Leeds on a Saturday, few bevvies on Saturday night then catch a game down Elland Road on a Sunday.....Toon Army..!!!
Great video! I am a mount maker at the Cleveland Museum of Art and we are very fortunate to have had several suits of armor on loan from the Leeds Royal Armoury. Someday I will visit it in person.
Well better come over there and choose your own fit of metal trouthers, helmets and fancy glittery tops. The good thing about this museum is that it's is optical even more well organized than the average wardrobe of ....
If you ever visit Los Angeles, Ian, you will enjoy the Gene Autry Museum of Western Art. About a third of it is leather work (saddles, holsters, bags, clothes) both historical and from Hollywood movies. They also have quite a few historical pistols and long guns. Thanks for the tour.
That was great thanks. I visited the museum when it first opened and I'm going there again in August. My twelve year old daughters are really excited to be going.
Gosh I'm 6 yrs late but love the tour, me and my brother played D&D as teens and loved the weapons and Armour etc thanks for sharing and a warm Hello from New Zealand 🇳🇿 👍🏖🌏🍻🏝✌️
Great video! Never been to England. For those who turned this video down, I have a simple solution. EXIT THE PAGE! Is that simple. This is a OUTSTANDING video for those who aren't able to travel and see the great History England holds. Great Job, Keep up the great work.
Ian, Thank you for the video, living in Chicago this was a real treat! On my next trip to England this will be on my destination list. Well shot, very professional. Thanks Again!
Very well done Ian! I have never seen such armory and the detail and craftsmanship are superb. Thank you for your video, and thanks for the opportunity to view this fantastic museum.
Thank you very much. I would love to see something like that first hand but here in the states we don't have such a wonderful long history as you do in England.
Fantastic video, especially with an iPhone seven. The work of an armourer had to be difficult and tedious, at least they didn't have fight and maybe injured? I like all if your videos Ian.
Really enjoyed this video, wan't sure I was going to (obviously subscribe to your channel to watch your videos for leather working) but thought it was great so any more like this I'll happily watch!
Thanks Ian...I often passed nearby when visiting the Leeds Kremlin so good to actually see inside....wow that was quite an editing job...very well presented.
The Colt SAA at 8:27 is interesting. Even though it is American designed and manufactured, the .455 Eley cartridge it's chambered for is British (the British military ordered those from Colt, and wanted that cartridge); practically unheard of here in the US. .455 Colt SAAs are quite rare in general, even in the UK (only 1,150 of them made). They are also weird, in that the .455 is too big for the SAA's cylinder. A bigger cylinder wasn't an option, because it wouldn't fit in the frame window. So Colt decided to bore the chambers at a slight angle to give enough room in the back for the case rims. This means the bullet has to take a slight turn when it enters the forcing cone and barrel upon firing. I wouldn't trust one with modern smokeless powder. Here's a British soldier with one in 1879, South Africa, during the Anglo-Zulu War - www.truewestmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/zulu-war.jpg I'm surprised they don't know more about that one they have on display. "About 1891"? They can get a letter from Colt which provides a detailed history of it, including the exact date of manufacture and much more. By the way, the card at 8:52 which says the SAA was first manufactured in 1871 is wrong. It wasn't even designed until 1872. It was first manufactured in 1873.
Josiah Einwechter | So you have take a lot of time if you also wanna see this stuff. 2 weeks at least but that will be maybe a rush from sign to sign. London one of the greatest cities to visit. Berlin, Moscow, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Vienna, Zurich, some Czech stuff got plenty of history to watch. I love asia and american continent but in USA you can feel (only) the present moment, it's nice you got things to watch, but by far not as much history as in Europe. You can also visit a really small german city and you feel the history. The medial feeling at some farms. They keep those houses/farms from 1800+ but when you step inside it's almost luxury and high-tech. But it's so nice 😌 Italy/Spain are soo beautiful with their cute streets and temperament mamas yelling out the window in actually a nice way ❤❤ Moscow very very tremendously big city but it's so nice there. So many Benzes; S-Classes. AMG or M versions also ❤ houses got a very beautiful finish, so much love and detail in every square inch. Actually you'll not see some bad areas, or take a lil bit more money with you, it's stupidly expensive. But as a customer you are the king, especially if you got some reeaal money.
thanks for a virtual trip across the pond. I also do other hobbies, and the national museum and the war museum in london were great and moving museums as well. it would be nice if more americans travelled anywhere and took the time to speak with people there to learn if nothing else, their view of us. (and then, sought to not be it) : )
Hey Ian, I've missed seeing your videos. I've followed you for some time and look forward to having the time to do some of your projects. This was a great video, by the way. The museum would be well-served to use it as a promotional video. Keep up the good work.
Enjoyed the video, nice camera, would love to see this in person. How much would a suit weigh, and how would one relieve their self of bodily functions? The tooling is amazing, had to be time consuming.
Ian, Thank you very much for this all too brief look at the R,A, this is once place I bitterly regret not having visited before we left England ! It was strange that they have so much "modern" junk there, but I suppose it is nice to have this to compare with the real artifacts, what I really appreciated was the video quality, and the slow panning speed you used, so many of these "visits" leave me feeling quite nauseous after just a few minutes, Well done! Chris B.
There's not much modern stuff in there really, only that one section about crime and defence etc. the rest is antiques or much older. They have old some old greek and roman things as well but it was too dark to film in that bit. I just wanted to show the range of items on display.
My dad told that at certain times, they would take the guns out the cases and let people touch them, but he says that was 20 years ago, do they still do this?
Well, something like that with a conventional cape painted with a red cross and some traditional arm that looks like it comes from Wakanda but are in reality from medieval England too ...
I'm really missing some new videos dude! I've bought a few of your fantastic templates and already made some very nice stuff! Thank you for you efforts and please keep going on your nice work! Best regards from Vienna.Cheers
Ah wait that will take some time, the mediveal metal trousers here seem to be a little bit to short, and when the medieval king was almost as tall as you he was usually not as slender as you ....

Hey Ian,
When to you think you will post more leather craft videos?
I live near the Royal armouries, I'm glad you paid it a visit!
You got some fantastic shots of the museum - we hope you had a great time. :)
Royal Armouries always do! :)
Excellent video I would love to visit there sometime. I'm only a few hours drive away
I really enjoyed your video mate.
Your narration was spot on, i hate when people talk too much.
Thanks for the upload.
Great video... Really top job.... Brilliant place in Leeds on a Saturday, few bevvies on Saturday night then catch a game down Elland Road on a Sunday.....Toon Army..!!!
If I remember correctly they actually have a sword that had a little gun in the hand guard I believe it was supposed to be used for dueling

Beautifil version of this symphony.
No idea why there are dislikes, I am no gunslinger, but this was a lovely video.
My dad told that at certain times, they would take the guns out the cases and let people touch them, but he says that was 20 years ago, do they still do this?

Thanks for sharing
Thank you!

Hey Ian! aren't you doing leatherworks anymore?
I am yes.
I'm really missing some new videos dude! I've bought a few of your fantastic templates and already made some very nice stuff! Thank you for you efforts and please keep going on your nice work! Best regards from Vienna.Cheers
My favourite place on earth
Nice video I've been there before
Ah wait that will take some time, the mediveal metal trousers here seem to be a little bit to short, and when the medieval king was almost as tall as you he was usually not as slender as you ....
Far as I can tell there were only 1 or 2 engraved European armours shown. Others were acid etched.
Great video, but waaaaay too short.
👍😊
Indian for Asian would have been more appropriate. Nevertheless the bg music is awesome!
My mate dropped her squishy in that river
