Discover how the Vikings turned their sheep fleece into yarn with Ermingard, a member of our JORVIK Viking Centre team.
In this video, Ermingard demonstrates drop spinning. Many weights from the ends of the drop spindle were discovered by archaeologists that date to the Viking period and they come in a range of shapes and sizes. The sizes and shapes may relate to the fibres being spun or the fineness of the thread, but experts are still debating.
