A portion? You mean the whole dam bridge?
I know right! That was a total bridge collapse. I didn't see just a section
Also the "a vehicle the size of a tractor trailer" so you mean a tractor trailer?
It’s the middle portion of the bridge, there is a lot of the bridge still standing.
The camera is zoomed in to better show the collapse, which is a huge portion, but not the whole bridge. There's quite a bit of length still standing on both sides out of frame.

They’re zooming in. The bridge spans for 1.8 miles, although it’s a large portion, it’s not the entire bridge
The on-ramps to the bridge are definitely significant, genius.
“A portion” ?!? That was quite literally the entire bridge!
It quite literally was not but it still was a good bit of it
No it wasn’t. Just zoomed in. Look the bridge up on google maps. It’s a huge bridge.
Praying for the victims, their families, and loved ones and thankful for all the agencies working together on behalf of the situation.
Makes you wonder how weak everything we drive on is, and when was the last time they inspected everything
Well they probably aren't designed to be impact resistant from a giant cargo ship 🫣
Um a ship crashed into it 😭
If you look closer, the actual supports of the bridge are left standing. Not much you can do about the actual road homie. I don’t think you understand the shear amount of power those shipping vessels have.
Uh..that bridge wasn't weak by no means. And they take maintenance on that bridge very seriously as it's a bridge everyone uses. It's just that ship is massive and has a lot of weight to it compared to (in comparison) skinny bridge. The kinetic energy has nowhere else to go T.T. Plus, that bridge is partially if not mostly made of probably cement? Steel vs Cement, who's gonna win?
Its not weak at all. One of the columns was knocked down. Just imagine someone smashing into your leg while you are holding something heavy above your head. You going to fall.
Praying for everyone ❤
The longer version shows traffic crossing the bridge until about one minute before the collision. Then, crossing traffic ends, and the bridge falls. It is as though bridge controllers stopped traffic entering the bridge or drivers saw the approaching ship and held back.
Do you have that link? Wow!
I read a comment that the pilot called to stop traffic. That's why less traffic occurred before the impact. A commenter said that a relative working at Port Mccalister(sp) told him so.
They said they called mayday right before so they stopped what traffic they could at least
Someone heard a mayday and people stopped traffic
authorities had time enough to close the bridge....
Never mentioned is that this was 100% avoidable had the bridge authorities bothered to protect the two bridge supports. In 1980 a ship hit the Skyway Bridge in Florida and it too collapsed completely which is why this type of structure should not be built over shipping traffic. When the Florida bridge was rebuilt it used a new design but most important was the creation of sets of massive barriers to protect the vertical supports and were strong enough to resist and impact by any ship of any size.
The Maryland bridge authorities knew they were on borrowed time and did nothing to protect the bridge from damage from a ship hitting it in a part of the country where there is a very high level of shipping traffic under the bridge. Far cheaper to have added protective barriers than it now will be to replace the entire bridge and of course the economic impact of not having a bridge in this location of at least a year and the shutting down of the port of Baltimore.
One can only hope that bridge authorities in other areas are proactive for a change.
DING!
I’m no architect, but how did the completely other end collapse ?
Because the bridge is supported by the other spans. It's like jenga, pull one critical piece and it all comes down

My first thought was DROP THE ANCHOR. I can't wait to find out how this happened. 47 years and today the bridge gets hit by a cargo ship. The port of Baltimore employs a lot of people each year and those poor road workers on the bridge 😢
I thought the same before I realized the sheer weight of that ship ,looked it up and you'd need an anchor bigger than a two story house and it still takes them a very long time to stop in pristine circumstances, it usually takes tug boats too.
That guy is definitely not getting his Christmas bonus this year 😂
This is horrifying I always had a fear of this happening. I always get so anxious getting stuck in traffic on bridges and knowing I’ve drove on this multiple times, just terrifying seeing this happen.

The middle of the bridge honesty was in need of another support beam.
I haven't heard anyone mention who the bridge was named for or the historical significance of it. It was built in 1972-1977 time frame in Baltimore harbor. Named after Francis Scott Key who was from Frederick, Maryland. He was present for a battle in the harbor during the War of 1812, Based on what he saw that night he wrote the Star Spangled Banner, our National Anthem. The highway crossing the bridge is Interstate 695 which would indicate the Federal Government may become involved in its replacement. Mike - USMC retired

Why the edit? Parts od the bridge didnt fall like that why did you guys edit it to look like it happened quicker than it actually did?
Here comes the "this was no accident" crowd. Those genius terrorists hit the bridge at 1 in the morning when there would be minimal traffic. Seems legit.
And sent an SOS to try to stop traffic on the bridge. 🤷♀️
Right, as if this bridge has any major importance whatsoever.
Were there any cars on the bridge at the time?
Oh yes, there was, I asked before I watched the video

The cargo ship just so happened to hit a main structure instead of going through an empty spot.

looks intentional.............
@@smoothtwhif you’ve read anything about the incident the boat lost power and they didn’t have control over it. Not everything is some conspiracy.
Watch the right side of the bridge, it shouldn't have fallen. Why did it?
A boat should not collapse a bridge unless it already had serious structural issues.
The USA infrastructure is getting old and weak
The bridge was in good condition. If you were from the area, you'd know that. MDOT kept it in tip top shape.
Was this intentional?? Who’s responsible for the innocent casualties?
See the explosions at the pieces?! If you slow it down, you can see it clear as day.
Pretty sure those are electrical shorts. Or sparks from the steel grinding against itself with enough friction and force to get it that hot
So apparently power was lost for a while and then power was regained at the last moment but it was too late because stopping a ship that big is nearly impossible even with many expierence. The ship had done a mayday call so the bridge was closed so not a lot of people were on the bridge.
Who was operating the ship? Could it have been a terrorist act? It happened with planes a while ago. It happens with automobiles.
Don't be stupid
According to CNN, it was local pilots who are used to navigating this harbor and there may have been a power malfunction that caused it to veer off course 2 minutes beforehand toward the pillar.
It happened with planes "a while ago". Almost 23 years is quite a while
Nobody cares about Baltimore enough to orchestrate a terror attack on a mostly empty bridge. Use your brain.
