I once read that creator Bill Everett was trying to come up with a name for his wing-footed creation. He was thinking of a good word that would express a sense of high NOBILITY. He came up with the word "ROMAN". He spelled it backwards. A stroke of brilliance. And there you have it.
It's called Neptune's Trident. Or Poseidon's Trident. The weapon of the Roman god Neptune and the Greek God Poseidon. Think of Neptune as Marvel and Poseidon as D.C. Same stuff from different companies (or mythologies).@@paulpierre4895
Aquaman is D.C.'s Namor equivalent, lets get that right straight off. The only reason Aquaman is more well known is because of the extremly popular saturday morning cartoon "The Super Friends" and the justice league cartoons which ran from 1973-1985, and even then he was mostly known as being kinda boring. The recent movies with Jason Mamoa definitely breathed new life into this hero, but lets give Namor the Sub-Mariner more credit, he was actually the first EVER Marvel superhero so, saying he is Aquamans Marvel equivilent feels like an insult.
Finally! The real King of Atlantis & "1st mutant" [in the comics]. I can't wait for him to Finally get into the MCU. Thing is, I don't know why, or who thought it's a good idea to throw out 80+ years out continuity & change his entire origin making him, & Atlantis Mayan. If they were gonna do all that, why not just create a character w/Mayan origins? Maybe I'm just being picky because he's always been one of my favorite X-Men/Avengers/Illuminati members, & characters in general. And I mean Top 10 [Marvel/DC/Wildstorm], & top 5 [Marvel]. It's got nothing top do w/race or color, but changing his origin, it just feels wrong. It's not who he is. They might as well just change his name to Aztec & change name & his costume too
Thank you i said the same thing bro. They are creating a whole other character. That is NOT Namor. Next they are gonna start making toys & wind up completely changing him in the comics cuz of this movie. Its crazy. Namor does not have a moustache
Exactly. That's the problem with a company like Disney and the formula they used to set characters to try and appease a woke agenda narrative. Remove the origin story but use the legacy of the Marvel comics character. That is the worse money grabbing double standard imaginable. Honestly for a character that was repurposed by Marvel comics due to low sales of the original Namor (the one that I grew up with) into Mutant Illuminati/Kabal and the Wakanda stories, you were bound to disappoint whomever identified with their version when it came time to make a film. All the crap fighting over ownership of Namor that prevented a film before Disney could get their hands on him. I stopped watching Disney films so I was OK when I heard the first version of Namor was not going to be honored. I can say that I enjoyed the character in its purest form.
i feel the same way when character origins are butchered to fit today’s standards in their movie adaptations. But i really like the direction they’re going with this, it’s very tasteful and personally i feel it has so much more depth than the typical half human - half mutant origin story. Also the attention to detail is crazy. Personal fav is the aztec nose piercing which coincidentally looks like it serves as a rebreather giving that “submariner” vibe while still making it ancient. Also the black panther series is very culturally driven in it’s themes and it would only make sense that the wakandans fight another tribe with rich history aswell
Marvel's first and mightiest mutant, Namor is Marvel's golden boy and my favorite character. I hope they don't make his movie terrible but its movies of today so I already know how this is gnna go. 💪👍💪
im saying bro people are getting mad that he aint white but bro its cool that mcu is incorporating ancient mexican culture into this just like wakanda and ms marvel did to certain cultures
That actually IS Luke Evans. That image had been floating around since Namor's announcement. It's about 2-3 years old, and you're absolutely 100% right, Luke Evans is the perfect guy to play Namor. He's in great shape, not huge like Hemsworth's Thor [which they absolutely got right during casing because Thor's a big beefy guy. Namor's got a muscular, yet more athletic/lean build, & if you know any of Evans work [Fast/Furious 6, Dracula Untold etc], then you know that he's got the most near perfect physique, top to bottom to play Namor. Great observation tho
He's been called Namor for years it's "Namor" not "Na-Mor" hey Hollywood STOP CHANGING THINGS! & he's not scared of anything or anyone he's very arrogant & a anti hero.
I agree. Somebody came up with that mutant angle decades after the fact. Bill never wrote that. I don't think Stan put him in that category when re-introduced Namor in the 60s. They came up with that angle in the 80s. He didn't even have half of that litany of powers either.

It’s is interesting that Disney makes traditional heroes into their diversity spectrum, but makes people like the ancient one from Dr. Strange white. I would think with the billions of dollars that they make they could create new characters with robust storylines that make sense and not have to resort to color recycling. Namor didn’t just burst onto the scene after Greta shouted “How Dare You” he fought along side Cpt America during WW2 and has a storyline that reaches farther back than that. I agree that they should have diversity but to change white characters in to colored characters is just lazy and poor attempts. Communities should be decrying both Marvel and DC for recycling characters into different color tones, versus really putting effort into in and creating real characters with rich cultural history. Are you telling me that old white dudes who were born durning the depression are more creative than the writers who are making huge salaries now?
it makes more sense bro no one wants to see another aquaman😂 shi is lame i honestly think the mayan origin connects them to more history and it makes it a much better storyline not another aquaman origin
I guess you're talking about the Mayan/Atlantis thing which I'll be frank, I have no opinion cause I don't follow comics. However, I've always liked his design so I'm aware of who he is.
