    Hi Guys Nice little village, full of happy people. The bananas you mentioned (7.58) are the same as the variety growing next to one of my pig pens on that shirt vid I sent you. You are right about the hand made knives so much better than the factory made stuff. One last bit, about the currency, which is as you say bulky. When I arrived in 07 till about 2010 the biggest note was the 20,000. I was buying a 100 million kip house in VV and had to go to the bank and walk out with a black plastic bag full of 20,000 notes. Everyone knew what was in the bag but no-one was interested to rob me. .In those days that was how money went from one person to another.

    “Mork” means fog. Yes, you were right, those wooden tubes like, are for steaming rice; just need a disk of finely woven bamboo mesh at the bottom.
    Take care.

    these markets remind me of when I was a kid we had the covered markets in just about every town in the UK. the main farmer’s days were Wednesday and Saturday for your fresh farmer produce, fruit veg etc, and then there were permanent stalls for meat, fish, clothing, household goods etc. then the smaller towns and villages would have their 'market day' once a week where it would be a mix of local farmer’s and travelling sellers that did a different market day in a different village or town to make up their working week. now people are starting to want that again in the UK they call them 'farmers markets' now. I think most people look at these videos without knowing that is how it used to be, everywhere... markets of some sort or another.

      @@3hmongchannel762 Thanks. I've traveled to 'communist', 'military juntas', 'religious ext'..etc countries before. And I do my homework before hand. I understand that a consequence of any/all of these 'systems of governance' the people are the victims. When I visit these places, I do so with them in mind mostly. I have friends who ask 'why do you go there?'....to meet the people personally so I don't fall into the trap of 'demonizing' a whole population in ignorance. Anyway, thank you for making that point as it is often lost on many. Cheers.

    Curious question: In a recent video you were talking about you and Neenee on the road and you heard on the news that covid was making a comeback, the two of you decided to get back home before the lockdown. In this video you are showing us a tv repair shop. Now I know that Laos is a communist country and all but, I am curious about tv, radio, and media within Laos. Is it just state run news 24/7 or do they have "regular" tv shows, music radio and such? I have the radio.garden app on my PC and I listen to radio from around the world and Laos only seems to have 3 stations (all in Vientiane) and all seem to be just talk radio. Though I am unable to understand it, it does seem like it's mostly just news. Keep up the great content you and Neenee put out, love them all. Take care, safe travels.

    The “Xieng Khouang Apple” is called mak jong which I think in English is malva nut. There is a smaller sort of “dried up” version that’s well known in Pakse but the Xieng Khouang one is bigger and tastes sour. (That’s according to my Lao partner!)🤗

    Hi Todd, Seems like you are foreign person so you be able to walk and film around with your camera with no problem, but oppositely I'm unable to do so, 2013 I went back and visited New year celebration at phoungsavang which not far away form Moung khoun and I got caught for filming the Bull fight without permission and I can only pick one of these option leaving my camera or pay fine so I picked pay fine which cost me 500,000KIPP about $45.00 U.S so it raise my blood pressure sky high. Good luck and be safe over there.

    • @NowinLao
      @NowinLao  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it's because I'm a foreigner because my wife and even her Lao friends video everywhere they go and have never had any problems. Admittedly in sensitive areas such as Long Tieng it's always good to let the authorities know you're in the area and what you'll be doing. I don't know why they targeted you. 2013 is not long ago but here in Laos, a lot has changed in such a short time, maybe things would be better for you now. Was it an expensive camera?

    So, we need a feret scout car or an Abram's M1 to drive around Laos?
    Park where you like and no traffic rules, no footpaths anymore, taken up by merchandise.
    Can you get third party public liability insurance?
    I think I'd be too worried about driving over there, they all seem to be trying to kill themselves on scooter's, and if it's anything like Port Moresby you'd need to get out of the country quick if you run over one of em.
    What would you expect to pay an Oz speaking guide with a scout car?

    The “Sang Kwang Apple”(?) is probably another genus related to Apple, or more probably a type of Quince (are they fragrant?). Typically the mealy and bitter/sour fruits are left to age a spell to go soft (“Bletting”) before they are eaten. They flavour sweetens, but as they are mushy, get used in pies, conserves, etc. rather than eaten out of hand.. Another amazing village for the Laos Bucket List!
