The part about solar panels that no one ever tell s you is the start up costs are very high.
You have to have the panels themselves, and the number varies with your needs.
Then, depending on the amount of sun a region receives, you have to have enough panels to pull in enough energy to fill a battery pack that's big enough to sustain you through the darker parts of the year. Then you have to have a converter to convert the power into usable electricity....Plus all the wiring to get the solar from the panels to the batteries...then you have to replace the batteries just like for a vehicle...which is also true for an electric vehicle.
And the battery for an electric vehicle is used much more than the one for a gas powered vehicle.
It's all very involved, not really difficult, but it's so much more than just some solar panels on your roof. I'm not trying to dissuade anyone, but the whole truth is never talked about when they are promoting green energy. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH INSTEAD OF JUST BELIEVING THE SELLER OF A PRODUCT.
These are just all the things that a good consumer would research before buying.

Funny that in the times we live in, Campbell’s is seen as a luxury and many people now buy the cheap store-brands instead.

And ironic, solar panels are terrible. You need multiple backup lithium batteries if you want to have consistency *at all*. SO expensive and disgustingly eco-unfriendly. Gonna have to disagree on that one, although I do agree that alternative heat and water sources are things that should be explored. Personally we make sure to have multiple energy and water sources just in case. But solar was so unaffordable it is definitely not in the mix.

As the video points out, over time the technologies become more reliable and less expensive.
The solar panels that Bell Laboratories made for the Vanguard 1-the first satellite to have solar power-operated at just around 1% efficiency.
Today’s panels operate at 15-18% efficiency. Costs are also falling. Presently, a residential solar panel system costs around one-quarter of what it did a decade ago. But that's awesome you use heat and water energy too! There are tons of options nowadays :)

@@HowtostartanllcOfficial we were extremely interested in living off the grid but were quoted close to $200k for a solar panel system. (Less if we did not get the 3 backup battery systems they recommended because they deplete so quickly and it takes so long to get replacement packs.) That doesn’t seem affordable to me. The quote came from our friend, who owns an installation company but who also works with the TN DEC as an advisor on solar energy. Straight from his mouth, he said that right the only people who can afford to live on solar are the super-wealthy elite who have money to burn. It is very cost-prohibitive, even with the ongoing tax credit program. If you plan on using it to power more than a backup for a few appliances then be prepared to shell out a LOT of dough.

@@ladygoodman7439Yeah for now. The point is that in time it will become more reliable and more affordable

I can see solar panels being sold en masse if something happened to other energy sources during a great depression, but nothing more than one big enough to power a fridge for the upfront cost would be too much for a penny pinching family. Energy will be a good thriving industry in rough times but which form depends on the market at the time.
