I liked that you gave a shoutout to the artist. I actually have put together the "poisons and potions" one twice. It is fun, but pretty difficult for me who is a pretty slow puzzler. In that puzzle i started with the bright orange and red pieces followed by the DRAGON. I would probably tackle this one in the same way 😄 Thank you for the video Karen, it is always fun to watch. 😊

Learning to puzzle as a team really seems like its whole beast, just putting 4 strong puzzlers together won't suffice. Seeing this video makes the top teams' achievement at the competition look even more impressive, it underlines how difficult the puzzle was, even by itself, so as the third trial in a limited time competition.

I would 100% want to focus on the dragon first (and no, not just because it's the word of the day lol). I find the scale texture to be easy to sort out, and I feel that it spans enough of the puzzle that it'd be very good to work off of. Hooray for finishing this one!! And hey, divide your final time by four and you plus three clones of you could've done it in less than 2 hours.

So I'm concluding that you need to clone yourself three times and form a hive mind, and then you'll be able to solve it very quickly indeed. As for me, I think I'd want to focus on the dragon first, because that's a good chunk of the middle right there.

I hope they release Karen's puzzle in less pieces I don't think I could do 3000. Crossing my fingers

Bought 4 puzzles at black friday sales, but none over 500 pieces. I know my limits. Almost done with the 1st. No dragons, but there's a unicorn!

technically each member of the team worked on the puzzle for 2 and a half hours, therefore the winning team collectively worked on it for 10 hours, which means you did it faster than them! kinda. sorta. in a round about way. not really. but i think that is a fun way to think about it!

I hate doing scales so I wouldn't do the dragon. I would work on the red parts or the mermaids' hair, maybe the tails, but like I said, I hate doing scales. I worked on a 1500 piece puzzle recently, and I estimate I finished it in 10-11 hours over 2 days. It was a Harry Potter puzzle which basically was a bunch of photos from the films. What made it easier was the fact that each film had a different colour and there was also a giant silver HP in the middle. Basically, I picked out certain colours and mostly completed each section before moving onto the next. VL

I probably would actually claim the dragon. I like a challenge. And I could be sure nobody else would have wanted that section. So I could take my time.

Ohh, interesting. Your time is just 6min less than what I needed for a 1000 piece puzzle that I also did over the course of 3 days (and finished today).
Thing is, usually I would consider myself a faster puzzler, and I did try to strategize and do this one quickly, but it turned out I received an evil puzzle in disguise.
A friend gave me a 1000 piece Anne Geddes puzzle with the "Sleepy Baby Mushroom" image, and the puzzle has a huge area of green that you need to solve by recognizing patterns. And the worst thing is, that the left halfs piece cut is repeated again on the right half. So I definitely understand why my friend gave up on this puzzle and even allowed me to keep it. This puzzle is 66% green with repeating cut so my expected 4h turned into 7.5h, which is still pretty good for what this puzzle was, but oh boi. It took me 2h for a proper sorting and to do everything that wasnt green and then 5.5h for the green part, applying even better sorting and also abusing the repeating pattern to finish one side and then look up what kind of shape I need on the other side, so I felt pretty good in my strategies. I wanted to do a little speed puzzling and ended up with a little challenge puzzling, so that was unexpected. :D
Oh a little note I almost forgot, I also took your advice to heart, that you shared while preparing for the puzzle competition, by looking at the box more often. I never look at the box, but if I ever wanna go to one of these competitions (what I would love to, but they are all far away from my location) then I still need to work on myself to look at the box more often, which wouldn't even have crossed my mind if you didn't say it a little while ago.

Karen I noticed most people during the competition tied their hair up or used something to keep the hair away from their faces. Is this something you would consider for another competition?

I definitely would not choose the mermaid/dragon as the first part to work on. I would probably start with the octopus.

Now that you've completed a competition and expressed how much more fun it is to complete puzzles as one, will you do another competition? The 'dragon' is my fav!
