The look on Emma's face when she takes the purse back from Ryan. It's so cute, the whole 4th grade flirting by pretending you don't like someone. Emma turns away but has this big smile on her face. It's so adorable.
Well, I think that's exactly the kind of thing they were trying to convey - real people so overtaken by emotions that they start hearing music all of a sudden, and dancing and singing. It's a hyperbole obviously :)
Yeah for sure, if you are an awesome dancer or singer in your own mind, then it doesn't matter so much what others think as long as you are enjoying it. The line between fantasy and reality gets a bit blurry in the movie and it's fun.
It's just meant to be imitating the classic style of movie in which so many had tap dancing scenes & of course included the clicking sound of the shoes so the tap dancing scenes would add to the musical texture... u never watch TCM or fox classics channel? no fred astaire or gene kelly? i personally find the scenes i've watched of this movie here on youtube so self aware it's cringey ! also a bit annoying that they had the opportunity to cast ppl who are not yr typical white couple in classic lead roles but didn't do that. But this movie is prob great for ppl who've never watched old movies....or maybe for people who have watched them all and miss the style lol
I actually live for the vibe this whole movie brought me. Like, I know empty places and streets at night in the city are dangerous when you're alone, but this movie brought me to a certain feeling of nostalgia and serenity. I just love the aesthetic of it. The quietness of night time. And the songs? My, oh my.

"Mia: It's pretty strange that we keep running into each other. Sebastian: Maybe it means something. Mia: I doubt it. Sebastian: Yeah, I didn't think so."
Something I've been thinking about, at the end of this scene Mia's car is literally right around the corner, and it would have been in beeping range the entire time. She's clearly not hitting it because she wants to spend more time with Seb!
True!! Seb’s car is also parked just right in front of the house where the party occurred. He pretended that his car was all the way up there at the hill so he can walk around with mia♥️
The moment where they are sitting and she's changing her shoes is so perfectly coordinated and it seems so casually at the same time. I just love it so much.

I would recommend Gene Kelly films made back in the 50's like Singin' In The Rain and An American In Paris. Those films inspired Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz in a huge way, you could notice that from the use of studios and props in some parts of the film to give it a classic look. In addition to Top Hat and Swing Time which was made inthe 30's and featured legends of musicals Fredn and Ginger. A Start is Born might give a Musical Vibe, but If you want something just like La La Land, my recommendations won't dissapoint you.
I just watched this movie for the first time two days ago and I've already scene it twice. It's beautiful, brilliant and heartbreaking all at the same time. Definitely one of the best movies of all time
Laura Irene This not the type of movie I would usually even put in the conversation for the best of all time. I'm a self-confessed film-nerd that usually likes complex, dark, thought-provoking films...... but..... I completely agree! I can honestly say La La Land is one of the best films I've ever seen. The music is perfection, the way it's shot is like every frame is a beautiful painting, the acting is intentionally understated and relatable, and the transitions are creative, clever, and flawlessly executed. I haven't been blown away by every aspect of a film like that in a long time, if ever. As a man that loves sports, beer, cars, etc... I can definitely say this film is NOT just a 'chick flick'. It might just be a modern masterpiece.
When watching this in the cinema, I thought for a moment the scene was not on a screen but right in front of me. Breathtaking how much style a movie today still can have today!
It is a great piece of music, but personally I wouldn't use the word "iconic." If I had to think of something iconic I would think of Oklahoma! or West Side Story. That's just me though.
I went to a musical festival with my class once and I was wearing a yellow dress and a guy from another another school was wearing the shirt and tie (it was kinda a fancy thing) we made eye contact and looked to a bench and started singing and dancing...so yeah that was something
One of the most iconic scene of a whole movie and series, I just love it so much. That movie that may appear moundain is in fact just a masterpiece on its own and made me fall even more in love with the song and Emma Stone
This Movie is Just Perfect in my eyes. The way Damian Chazelle blends humor with heart and lessons about life sprinkle throughout there makes this one of the best movies of all time. Even though our characters don’t end up together at the end, it present a realistic outcome and even though it doesn’t seem like they don’t get together, they will always be together cause they have each other to thank for getting to there stardom.
I think all the people who bashed it just did it because "it was the cool thing to hate." it's a shame that we can't just appreciate how perfect of a movie this is. Even if you don't like the genre, the movie couldn't have been made any better
It's always a comforting certainty to know that despite everything that happens in life and the world, this wonderful scene will always be here. Eventhough you've seen it before, it's still worth watching again
Ryan is about to blow up hard with Barbie and recover all that was lost during this award season, i still like La La Land way more than Barbie but damn, im just happy to see him shine, he is got all the talents, bro, its timeee
beautiful iconic scenei remember seeing this in the theatres and when the phone rang, i was so confused. i honestly felt like i was watching a classic, something in the older times, and of course the cinemascope makes it seem that way. i laughed a bit for how out of place it seemed, and how great the shot and camera movement was for allowing me to feel nostalgic, and forgetting everything, just as Mia and Sebastian do. amazing
I love Emma Watson's acting, but from her singing performance from Beauty and The Beast, I don't think she could've held her own during The Fools Who Dream. Emma Stone deserved her Oscar for that song alone. Miles Teller was excellent in Whiplash, but I don't really see him doing a Romantic Musical type film. Gosling and Stone were perfect for these characters.
Me and my girlfriend broke up a week after watching this film. I have the soundtrack on my Ipod and generally love it, or at least i loved it when I was in a relationship. I've tried to find the right word to describe what this film means to me now. Having broken up after 3 and a half years. I can't listen to the songs the same way or even comprehend watching this film ever again, It haunts me..
Mike, I´m right there with ya. It might of been less than a week that we separated after seeing this film as well. This is the first time I had the balls to watch this scene again after a three yr relationship went down the hole. Hope all is well for ya...life goes on.
I think this movie shows you two things about love and Life. One is that when hoy grow Up a relationship is not only love. And the second one and mayhaps why you split Up.. everyone deserves and wants a love like this. And your girlfriends probably... they looked to you and couldnt feel that. So they might have looked onto your side and thougt.. dude What are we doing here? They werent the right ones if they felt unsure about your love or about you for this film. This films are gorgeous but show unrealistic clichés about love. If you compare these with reality you ll probably end up disspointed
i feel the same way! i was reading some reviews of it on amazon bc i wanna get another dvd of the movie, and there's just some people that dislike it. what i like, though, is how bold it is to come out with a extravagant musical movie in such a modern time! just thinking of how this is my favorite movie ever and how there's people that don't like it reminds me of how not everyone will like the same things or that not everyone will like you, and that's okay! :') you're right tho, such bops!!!

wow- i thought they could already sing and dance!
yeah I like it better- it’s not perfect, but it’s more personal and sweet
@@natehaterrants he learned piano for that film and before he wasn't able to play in an advanced level
Emma stone also already knew ballet as well, but had to learn how to tap dance for the role.
The look on Emma's face when she takes the purse back from Ryan. It's so cute, the whole 4th grade flirting by pretending you don't like someone. Emma turns away but has this big smile on her face. It's so adorable.
And both doing the same movements in their dance routine is like mirroring one another which shows a mutual attraction.
I love the sounds of the shoes on the road, they make the scene so real and intimate.
Ah yes , i remember my last date we spontaneously started singing and dancing , weird part i have no idea where that music came from.
You've never put on a Jazz playlist on your iPhone and set it down and danced with her?
My, oh my.
It all makes me want to live in LA
Literally me bro literally me

jeff27a um idiot, there’s no need to prove it. Cause that was the main scene was about.

DARAGON NYONGDAL the ending is so sad 🙁🙁
Still here in 2019
2019 and I still pissed off about these two
Ikkk it almost made me cry but I was def crying on the inside
I was thinking the same thing. Whenever I'm sad or stressed out I watch this
I still remember when I saw this movie for the first time. I was 13 years old and the moment the movie started my mind exploded. So many colors, melodies, dances, emotions, it is something I will never forget.
I remember being 13 slowly getting into musicals
i love how she says "maybe this appeals for someone not in heels" and instantly takes the heels off.
Júlia Moreno didn't notice that, cool
And changes into heels...
LPS Louise yeah, my bad lol
Júlia Moreno you just blew my freaking mind
I think the idea is she is going to "try if this appeals for someone not in heels"
It's from these movies that you want to forget... in order to see them again.

Absolutely right. Gosh, I love this movie.

Something I've been thinking about, at the end of this scene Mia's car is literally right around the corner, and it would have been in beeping range the entire time. She's clearly not hitting it because she wants to spend more time with Seb!
Mark Midmark omg so true 😆
True!! Seb’s car is also parked just right in front of the house where the party occurred. He pretended that his car was all the way up there at the hill so he can walk around with mia♥️
Wow seen this movie a few times can't believe I never noticed this
Ahh that's so cute!
The moment where they are sitting and she's changing her shoes is so perfectly coordinated and it seems so casually at the same time. I just love it so much.
I have this song on Spotify, but whenever it comes on I can't help but open up TH-cam to watch the dance with it.
I love neymar jr
That's what I just did, my gf can't handle it anymore x)

It's better with the tapping from their shoes tbh. For example 4:00
Same! It’s always in my suggested video list. TH-cam knows me well lol

Oooh thank u!
thank you so much
wow ur music sounds so good
the flute at 0:52 is so magical followed by the piano riff into the song! god this movie is good!
This scene will be La la land's most famous one day.
I think the most famous will be the audition scene - it is musical stripped to the bone. Minimalistic and yet it is still classical musical.
Farnost Vršovice True
It's a 5 minutes scene with NO cut... it's really mighty :-)
MrCharlou I did not notice this until you pointed it out. The cinematography and the uncut performances are just unbelievable. I have never seen anything that comes close to this. Should have won Best Picture.
Yeah, and another day if sun is 3 minutes and only contains 2 cuts. The scene looks like it flows but there are cuts well hidden. Nevertheless, the cinematography us beautiful.
I actually cannot even begin to express how absurdly well composed the back and forth in this music is. This is the golden standart for BnF duets in musicals for me.
and the fact that the bnf is perfectly executed in ONE take is really fuckin cool, truly an oscar worthy film.
Producer: How much talent you want in the actor??
Ryan Gosling: Yes.
@Rohan Besra yes
@Rohan Besra Ryan Gosling was robbed of an oscar for his performance in La La Land and the main reason is he learnt piano for his face to look more natural while playing the instrument . He also danced and sang so well in this masterpiece. His acting was so flawless perfect and expressive yet mostly subtle hitting all the right notes .
@@purvashdangi1502 Casey Affleck’s performance was really good that year, but IMO Gossling deserved the Oscar
@@alexanderg1297 ya Ryan was just phenomenal in his performance but cassey deserved it too
Ryan Gosling has been making a lot of great movie choices recently:
•The Nice Guys
•La La Land
•Blade Runner 2049
He really knows what he's doing and I admire him for that :)
My favorite actor
Drive?
first man
Darragh Hynes The Place Beyond the Pines
Darragh Hynes Blue Valentine, one of the most beautiful movie I got to see, I would highly recommend this movie
I just noticed that Ryan's swing around the streetlamp at 1:14 pays homage to Gene Kelly in Singin' in the Rain.
This whole movie is a love letter to musicals of that era. This whole green screen Griffith park scene is reminiscent to the painted sets of yore.
The aesthetics and cinematography of this film is absolutely gorgeous
Watch some of the film analysis of this movie on youtube. They really dive deep into all aspects of this film. I'm sure they might point out things you might have missed. I totally recommend it, because it will deepen your appreciation and enjoyment of this film.
So glad Emma Watson gave up this role Emma Stone is perfect
(Omg ty for all the likes✨)
Also guys no hate to Emma Watson I think she is an amazing actress I just could never see her in this role
The chemistry Stone-Gosling it's something wonderfull to see.
Wait Emma Watson was gonna play is this? She got the role but then she gave it up and Emma Stone took over?
@@kamronramelmeier9264 yeah Watson and Miles Teller were first considered for the roles, but they both chose cheap cash grabs instead of this masterpiece.
@@jayko2110 but she did exceptional on Beauty and the Beast, both wins for them.
J. P P thank god I hate Miles Teller
why is the quality of her voice so good its so soft and beautiful
i want to see more movies like la la land...
Chandan Kumar I bet you dont want to see another movie like this. That is paradox. This movie is special because movies like this are rare. Actually we dont want to see happy endings at all some bitter taste of ending this movie makes it good. Unexpected things
A STAR IS BORN😇😇😇😇😇
I would recommend Gene Kelly films made back in the 50's like Singin' In The Rain and An American In Paris. Those films inspired Damien Chazelle and Justin Hurwitz in a huge way, you could notice that from the use of studios and props in some parts of the film to give it a classic look. In addition to Top Hat and Swing Time which was made inthe 30's and featured legends of musicals Fredn and Ginger. A Start is Born might give a Musical Vibe, but If you want something just like La La Land, my recommendations won't dissapoint you.
La La Land is just a modern Gene Kelly film with one of the best plots ever.
David Tursunovic I agree I like La La Land way more! I would say that A Star Is Born is the next best though
I saw this movie in the theaters in 2017, and I still can't stop watching this scene. Brilliant.
I just watched this movie for the first time two days ago and I've already scene it twice. It's beautiful, brilliant and heartbreaking all at the same time. Definitely one of the best movies of all time
and if you're not in love with ryan by the end of this scene there's something wrong with you ....
Laura Irene I really enjoyed La La Land, but I enjoyed Whiplash more :)
When watching this in the cinema, I thought for a moment the scene was not on a screen but right in front of me.
Breathtaking how much style a movie today still can have today!
Who needs ASMR when this scene exists?
I watched this scene, dozens of times, and still thrilled by its perfection.
just... absolutely iconic.
It is a great piece of music, but personally I wouldn't use the word "iconic."
If I had to think of something iconic I would think of Oklahoma! or West Side Story. That's just me though.
I think it will become iconic in the future
+Tyler McKniley yeah maybe because those are older but in 20 years this will be
I haven’t even heard of it. How is it iconic?

I wish other modern Directors should take notes how to stage and shoot a scene
think he means that other directors should "take note" of Chazelle's gorgeous masterpiece that is La La Land
Everyone took note, but not everyone can attempt to pull off such a masterpiece.
Check out Nicholas Winding Refn. Director of Drive. His shots are amazing.
i started watching hollywood to get away from all the Bollywood musicals shit ...fuck
At least Steven Spielberg can still tell a story

Hi-
Me
This Movie is Just Perfect in my eyes.
Say what you will but I absolutely love this movie
I love your name 💙 Ravenclaw xx
me toooo ;)
The ending still made me cry tho
I think all the people who bashed it just did it because "it was the cool thing to hate." it's a shame that we can't just appreciate how perfect of a movie this is. Even if you don't like the genre, the movie couldn't have been made any better
I watched it Saturday evening with 3 cans of speckled hen cos that's how I roll (when the wife and kids are away anyhow) Great film.
It's always a comforting certainty to know that despite everything that happens in life and the world, this wonderful scene will always be here. Eventhough you've seen it before, it's still worth watching again
The beauty of art. Its very essence, to leave a trace. It, which carries so many emotions, writes deeply within us

Ryan is about to blow up hard with Barbie and recover all that was lost during this award season, i still like La La Land way more than Barbie but damn, im just happy to see him shine, he is got all the talents, bro, its timeee
beautiful iconic scenei remember seeing this in the theatres and when the phone rang, i was so confused. i honestly felt like i was watching a classic, something in the older times, and of course the cinemascope makes it seem that way. i laughed a bit for how out of place it seemed, and how great the shot and camera movement was for allowing me to feel nostalgic, and forgetting everything, just as Mia and Sebastian do. amazing
you're right
As much as I love Emma Watson it’s difficult to see her replacing Emma Stone here
ScrapDraws it was gonna be Emma Watson and Miles Teller! Would have been VERY different !
Emma Watson can't sing for shit so i'm inclinide to agree
@@ohplease1995 and she has a really bad American accent
I love Emma Watson's acting, but from her singing performance from Beauty and The Beast, I don't think she could've held her own during The Fools Who Dream. Emma Stone deserved her Oscar for that song alone. Miles Teller was excellent in Whiplash, but I don't really see him doing a Romantic Musical type film. Gosling and Stone were perfect for these characters.
Emma Watstone

everything about this scene is magnificent and perfect - the sunset, choreography, singing, music
never knew a movie could be this perfect
Me and my girlfriend broke up a week after watching this film. I have the soundtrack on my Ipod and generally love it, or at least i loved it when I was in a relationship. I've tried to find the right word to describe what this film means to me now. Having broken up after 3 and a half years. I can't listen to the songs the same way or even comprehend watching this film ever again,
It haunts me..
Mike Frander I know how that feels bro :( but see it in this way, you have your relationship in this movie as a good memory.
Mike, I´m right there with ya. It might of been less than a week that we separated after seeing this film as well. This is the first time I had the balls to watch this scene again after a three yr relationship went down the hole. Hope all is well for ya...life goes on.
That's weird, that's what happened with my girlfriend and I. Literally a week after too
It's kinda weird why are we all losing are girlfriends after watching La La Land. Damn is this movie cursed?
I think this movie shows you two things about love and Life. One is that when hoy grow Up a relationship is not only love. And the second one and mayhaps why you split Up.. everyone deserves and wants a love like this. And your girlfriends probably... they looked to you and couldnt feel that. So they might have looked onto your side and thougt.. dude What are we doing here? They werent the right ones if they felt unsure about your love or about you for this film. This films are gorgeous but show unrealistic clichés about love. If you compare these with reality you ll probably end up disspointed
I don't know why people hate this, 3 years and the songs is still such a bop. Ugh
i feel the same way! i was reading some reviews of it on amazon bc i wanna get another dvd of the movie, and there's just some people that dislike it. what i like, though, is how bold it is to come out with a extravagant musical movie in such a modern time! just thinking of how this is my favorite movie ever and how there's people that don't like it reminds me of how not everyone will like the same things or that not everyone will like you, and that's okay! :') you're right tho, such bops!!!
They just don't get it or are seeing shit that isn't there
I love when he says 'This can never be...Youre not the type for me.' and after shes like 'Really?!' (offended) XD
