I don't see this as a problem of "out-of-context." The **promise** is that God will be there for you in the sometimes unpleasant business of confrontation & restoration/exclusion. The **principle** is that God will be there "where two or three are gathered together in my name." It's a guarantee God will be with you in this endeavor. That is backed up in numerous places: 2 Cor 6: 16 “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them” [note the plural] but also the 'I will be with you' 'I will never leave you' 'I will not leave you as orphans' [note also the plural] verses. So because this is a universal principle, we need not fear that referring this passage to general gathering of believers is misusing the text. We do need the context so we can see how Jesus is applying the principle in this case.
Some will try and make a reductio ad absurdum joke out of it by asking "but doesn't God make himself known to individuals?" Yes, but - 1) You are never actually alone 2) most of the NT examples of God moving in power seem to be in gatherings of some sort: The Spirit coming down Acts Ch 2 & 4, Paul & Silas [Ch 18] Stephen [Ch 6 note v 8 "among the people"] Philip & the Ethiopian Eunuch [ch 8] Negatively, Annanias & Saphira [ch 5] - these are just a few examples.
If anything, Matt 18 seems to be there to *remind* us that the gathering of 2 or more to confront an erring brother or sister "is" an event as solemn and as important as prayer or corporate worship.

I disagree with you brother regarding this scripture. If it meant that it would have said that also I think you are coming from a personal sense perspective meaning your leaning on your own understanding. Its not excluding that god is not with one person but its saying the power of prayer is more answered on intention where two or three gathered.

I never took this verse as saying God is only with us when 2 or three are gathered. God is always with me, whether I am in a crowd or it’s just me and my dog. God is with me always on earth and one day I will be with him in Heaven. Always! Since you can’t hear me tone, I am saying this with a kind, heartfelt tone. No haters here. I actually don’t know one believer from church from the age of two years old to present day that ever believed the scripture to mean God is only with us when two or three a gathered together. I’m not sure if you personally went to the music leader and asked him what he meant by that statement. It would surprise me to learn that anyone who studies the word of God would think God is only with us when two or three are gathered. I would love to see you do a video asking Bible believing, Bible studying people if they believe that God is always with them or only when two or three are gathered together is God with them? Sometimes we only get the answer to the question we ask, but it is not a complete answer of what we think, feel or believe. It is simply an direct answer to a direct question, wouldn’t you agree?
Keep telling others about Jesus. It is the most important task He has given us isn’t it.
May God bless you and your ministry.

I need double-check the actual meaning of Math. 18:18 after accepting your explanation regarding Math. 18:20 because this verse is frequently cited while discussing binding or loosening Satan or any unfavourable circumstance. When we take into account the entirety of Matthew 18:15-35, we can see that this specific verse in Mathew 18:18 is discussing unity among brethren and that every circumstance that threatens to sabotage that unity must be bound or loosen in the name of Jesus Christ. What are your thoughts?

I’m curious why you didn’t speak about verses 18 and 19? They lead up to verse 20 and are important to the context as well. Also verse 19 seems to be a bit separate from Mathew 15-17. It doesn’t mention if you and that same brother it says specifically “if two people” which is why I think the following verse 20 can be taken out of context. It doesn’t necessarily have to mean that God isn’t with you when you are alone because there are plenty other verses that tell us he’s with us regardless but I think the Bible tries to imply that there is strength in numbers spiritually. James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” I don’t think it’s necessarily wrong to take 18:20 out of context so long as we understand God can also be with us when we are alone and that having a helping believing friend or community is even more helpful. Thoughts ?

The scripture says... "And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican" That doesn't say LOVE THEM
Treating someone like a heathen (someone who doesn't worship God), or publican (tax collector), was to place them OUTSIDE the community of FAITH!!. And that's EXACTLY what the church did back in the day, sin was dealt with, period! It wasn't all this grace grace watching so-called Pastors commit adultery, having babies with church members, and first ladies (which is nowhere in the bible), walking in looking like Jezebels!!
God loves, but here he clearly shows us that we are to separate ourselves from rebellion and lack of accountability refusing to repent from our sin. They "could" most definitely be forgiven if they ASK God for forgiveness, but they must first ask God and be restored.
    2 Corinthians 6:14-18
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

Vs 19 changes clauses from the specified church discipline matters in the preceeding verses by using the word "Again" I tell you.....
Christ tells them to have 2 apostles agree in "Whatever they may ask..."
    1. So when a "Question " arises
    2. 2 apostles agree TOGETHER to settle the matter.
    3. Acts 15:2. We find a "Question " regarding circumcision for gentile Christians.
    4. Peter AND James TOGETHER settle the dispute by "Binding and Loosening "
    5. Peter "loosed" circumcision.
    6. James "binded " gentiles Christians abstain from fornication, blood, idolatry.
So Jews could no longer push circumcision on gentile Christians.
This fact of Christ specifically commanding 2 apostles to agree together on ALL MATTERS regarding questions destroys the catholic papacy. Because 1 man is not allowed to decide ALL MATTERS, but 2 or more together.
That's why Paul in 2 Corinthians 13:1 says " let every fact be established by the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses "
Old testament requires 2 or more witnesses to establish "truth"
New testament also requires 2 or more to establish truth.
So a one man papacy is directly against Christ's specified instructions.
Also, multiple elders/bishops, not one man controlling a church, a "pastor" is a bishop/elder, so every church must have 2 or more "pastors" to follow Christ's instructions also, to decide all matters.

My question then is would it be unscriptural to begin a prayer based on "Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” After all the overarching premise the important of unity in the Body of Christ and the power of agreement in prayer that aligns with the Word?

It becomes very clear that it's misquoted once you realize people don't really believe how it's being misquoted since it's also believed God is with us when we are on our own, the complete opposite of the misquote. How forcible are right words, but what doth your arguing reprove.
Message for anyone who is “In Christ”:
      • Notice that there are those who are commenters and readers, but there are also the demonic
      • prayerfully look at their channels and what they post to identify their characteristics,
Only the Word of God protects us and binds.
Psalm 27 is excellent in this regard:
Pray: The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. The Lord is the strength and refuge of my life, of whom
shall I be afraid. When evildoers (the wicked) assail me to eat up my flesh, it is they who stumble and fall.” If you pray 🙏 this prayer toward the demonic trolls, and if it is two or more … the Word will manifest for your protection. (And since it “when 2 of more”, then the more who read and pray in agreement, the better.
In Jesus Christ of Nazareth mighty Name we pray, Amen. 🙏

The word of God can many times be safely interpreted in a broader context. But it can also be mis-interpreted that way. In this case it is not. But when Jesus sais "I", he means Jesus, not the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost He introduced as a separate person, that replaces His presence on earth. Also He talked about having a Father in heaven. Three separate persons united in their aims and targets - but separate persons. So we are never alone. But it is as if He were physically present, if more than one persons come together in His name.

I always felt, that the catholic (false) interpretation of trinity is not such a big thing. And if people want to fight, they will always find a reason to - no matter what interpretation of trinity. But in this particular case I feel sorry, that such a smart and good christian comes to a different conclusion than me. Even if I still think, that the practical consequences in real life are minimal - at least as far as I could observe it.

Way tooooooo much Judgement in this .... the way you say, "we should treat them as Sinners," is judgement in itself. This is the problem with Church and Christianity.... this will NOT get our children to follow Jesus. You have to give advice without giving any judgement if you want to get your point across. I appreciate what you are doing for others by sharing the Christ Consciousness within you for others... but sharing anything that says, "treat them as sinners" is made made preachers teaching you the wrong way on what Jesus was here to teach us... You mean well... but i can promise if you quit the judgement, you'll get a lot more followers and lead 10x more people to Jesus.

How are we supposed to treat sinner? We love them. That's what that means.
I'm not interested in judging the world. The Bible makes clear that's God's job. But we are called in this passage and plenty of others to "judge" those inside the church. Although the word judge is massively misunderstood. I got a video on that as well.

Believers in Christ is the point, not followers of man. Jesus was judgemental of sinners, and loved them too.

wow. great revelation. I don't think anyone truly believes that God is not with them if they are alone. That would delete every concept of who God actually is and His omnipresence. This verse is usually used to encourage small groups that feel small or less valuable because of their low numbers. It is also used to increase our faith when we fail to understand that Jesus is actually present in our gatherings.
I don't disagree with this interpretation, but I see it damaging the innocent and simple in their faith and knowledge of Christ. Our intellect can actually become a stumbling stone for those that simply need this verse to continue with their small groups.
I don't think I will ever reveal this interpretation to anyone, as it will only create doubt and confusion to the simple faith that is needed as a child to enter heaven.

I agree with how you've seen this verse used. However, that doesn't make it correct. Using Matthew 18:20 to encourage those in small gatherings is the wrong interpretation and encourages taking the Bible out of context. There's other verses that we can use that encourages us that God is present when we are alone or in a small group. But I think we should be cautious about knowingly using a verse out of context. It's explicitly clear what Jesus meant in this passage. We shouldn't lead people to a different conclusion.

@@RethinkwithJefferyPoor I agree with your warning about misinterpreting verses out of context. However, in this particular case it does not do any damage as it does not contradict the Bible. All it does is reaffirm that God is omnipresent. My main concern is with weighing being right about a verse, and taking away the simple faith of many that need it. Sometimes, we are quick to judge the simple faith of some and eventually we are the ones loosing out by bringing the Word to an intellectual level.
I am reminded of the verse that talks about asking , seeking and receiving which is normally used for fervent prayer describing our intensity on how we ask from God. However, the context clearly talks about receiving the Holy Spirit. It's is not wrong to use it for prayer as it does not contradict the Word.
(Luke 11:9-13 ) same passage in Mathew does not mention Holy Spirit, but good things as a petition.
