wow, u go back through 90s music & realize how much better music was back then, there was a genuine good feeling about rock music that seems lost on many bands today. there was a sense of freedom of creativity that surrounded real musicians, even pop music was at least listenable but was still fake. u could listen 2 different bands from the same genre & see they were unique, lastly the songs that were created left you feeling like music was important rather than background noise 2 a busy day imo
Wow this song is awesome! Brings back so many memories- they really had a lot of excellent music ! Im 45 and my sons listen to Big Wreck now, they love them as much as we all did back in the day !
Every time I'd had the pleasure to see Big Wreck, it was in a crowd no larger than this one...which was awesome :) Evening Star Concert Hall in Niagara Falls, NY, 1999...50 people max?
I remember when this aired on MTV, I was like 9 at the time.....but I remember being stoked that this was filmed at sun peaks British Columbia, close to my home town!
I saw these guys in Madison, WI. They had a unique sound and allot of fun to see and here. Wish they were still around. I only have the one CD of theres, and finding even a replacement for that is impossible.
Only in Canada....where you actually need to have Talent to become famous. Happy Canada Day folks! I'm a Nova Scotian living in California but I'll ALWAYS be a canuck!
I'm going to play the race card for a moment for all the haters but, being African American, I can tell you that this is what a good rock vocalist is suppose to sound like. I remember seeing these guys at the Lunatic Luah in Va. Beach and can't believe they fell off. Great band with great sound, you white folks ought to be ashamed of urselves for letting a band like this go to waste. Despite the different musical styles he's a better vocalist than James Hetfield, Scott Weiland of Eddie Vedder.
Lmao! I have always wondered..HTF did Nickleback make it huge and these guys got largely overlooked??? Madness...but grateful their music is still in the ether.
Nickelback wrote hit songs with catchy hooks. Sadly... Chad Kroeger is a solid guitar player, but his voice and lyrical writing leave a lot to be desired.
@JESUBLIME65 i think they met in Boston at University, but came back to Toronto, not totally sure, but i think they aren't really heard of in The States.
Yeah I pity the poor college students who had Britney and NSync taking over the radio. Going to art school and having bands such as The Breeders, STP, Soundgarden, Seaweed, Sponge, Radiohead, etc. etc. and songs from bands like this just fit like a glove for me.
@sckmyballsofsteel They weren't Nickelback. I'm with you. Big Wreck was one of the most amazing bands of all time. I make no joke about it. In my top three? Of all TIME? Big Wreck is third.
Ian Thornley actually was a session musician for Nickelback... so might have contributed to their "sound" back in the late 90's Not to mention Chad Kroeger does sound just like him. Same Singing style & vocal timbre.
I ran into Big Wreck because of Road Rash 3D soundtrack. Not sure if I heard them in the game though.. Indeedy. Fuck a Nickelshit. Great tune, RIP Big Wreck. This song is a fantastic hit.
it sucks to compare them to nickelback, true, and i love both Thornley/Big Wreck and nickelback, but chad Kroeger did write and help alot with Thornleys' albums.. i respect them both
@sckmyballsofsteel the didn't make it big.....because they didn't sell out, which gives me more respect for the bad, than the rest who sell out, and forget their roots!
Yeah. And I should add, I think this song may have charted higher than I thought, but I don't remember it getting the air play I thought it deserve -- seemed very sparse, for the rockingest song out there.
I find this song wherever I can, and post the same comment: Seriously fuck Ian Thornley. I just want some talent, OK? It's not cool to take it all, Ian.
Haters aside, we have their record label for actually being the reason they "fell off." They did a horrific job promoting their second album which is mainly why they disbanded. Such a waste though as they were an amazing band. the only consolation is that we at least have the band, Thornley.
I agree, it is indeed a catchy, clever tune. Very well done. IMHO, one of the best around that time. But, it didn't chart all that high -- it started falling after only eight weeks. Only thing I could come up with to explain was perhaps it was too negative. I dunno.
Chad Kroeger is a musician. That kat can play guitar quite well. He's just not good at writing very meaningful songs, and meaningless songs is what appeals to the masses listening to the radio as they drive down the road. That's why Nickelback became huge...that, and their record label paid off ever radio station to put them on constant rotation.

Ian Thornley is Canada's Finest
you could almost swear they were Canadian, by the simple fact that only a Canadian band would do a winter show outside
Wow this song is awesome! Brings back so many memories- they really had a lot of excellent music ! Im 45 and my sons listen to Big Wreck now, they love them as much as we all did back in the day !

This band sounds even better live than on the recording even to this day

Im an American......and i agree with your statement
The drummer in this lineup was the best imo. The groove he played on this rocks!
Ian Thornley is just too good at music for everybody. I'm pretty sure that's it.
Thank you so much for sharing this!

only 37 comments over the span of a year for such a great band and yet people still listen to Nickelback. The world is not fair.

This is definently one of their best songs, "That Song" is pretty awesome too : )
I love that song! ;)

The Original lineup!
Dat guitar solo - scratch that, guitar duet!!!
Lmao! I have always wondered..HTF did Nickleback make it huge and these guys got largely overlooked??? Madness...but grateful their music is still in the ether.

@JESUBLIME65 i think they met in Boston at University, but came back to Toronto, not totally sure, but i think they aren't really heard of in The States.
This is a great version of this song! I dont think a studio version would be much better

Is there a studio version of this sing on TH-cam? I can't seem to find any. I actually heard this song on the EDGE a few days ago, it kicks ass.
I ran into Big Wreck because of Road Rash 3D soundtrack. Not sure if I heard them in the game though..
Indeedy. Fuck a Nickelshit. Great tune, RIP Big Wreck. This song is a fantastic hit.
if they'd taken off their VIP passes they would have been huge in America
it sucks to compare them to nickelback, true, and i love both Thornley/Big Wreck and nickelback, but chad Kroeger did write and help alot with Thornleys' albums.. i respect them both
Chris Cornell SOUNDS ALLOT LIKE IAN THORNLEY and wants to be Ian when he grows up!!! hahahaha
@TheJordanGraff and yes I am aware that Ian is from Tdot
@sckmyballsofsteel the didn't make it big.....because they didn't sell out, which gives me more respect for the bad, than the rest who sell out, and forget their roots!
@bdawgmarsdin this is from 1998 dude, those VJs didnt exist back then...
oh 1998...when every band looked like they had been in the cast of the matrix
ian thornley switched to the band called thornley
Yeah. And I should add, I think this song may have charted higher than I thought, but I don't remember it getting the air play I thought it deserve -- seemed very sparse, for the rockingest song out there.
@BenjaminGlatt
ah shucks, thanks pal :)
@sckmyballsofsteel umm he did make it big? with thornley
I find this song wherever I can, and post the same comment: Seriously fuck Ian Thornley. I just want some talent, OK? It's not cool to take it all, Ian.
Where was this show? BC?
MuchMusic's Snow Job in 1998 at Sun Peaks Resort In Kamloops, BC to be exact.
There used to be. Apparently it was pulled off..
i think this sounds more like soundgarden than anything to be quite honest.and yeah these guys came out way before theory of a nicklefault.
Listen to a podcast review of Big Wreck's In Loving Memory Of on the Dig Me Out Podcast at digmeoutpodcast . com

@RyoFoo

does anyone know what the good version of the song is...i don't really like the live version.
because chad kroeger isnt a musician, he's a marketing major.
Chad Kroeger is a musician. That kat can play guitar quite well. Nickelback rips this band off and makes millions for it. What the fuck
Also, hick-rock has wider appeal than just straight-up good music.
them and the tea party waaaaaaaay unrated......
unrated? i thought we were talking bands not pornos
haha this is just like nickleback
Please don't compare them to Theory of a Nickelfault......not fair to Mr. Thornley.
Yup they were awesome and Thornley by himself is pretty good but not as cool as Big Wreck.
@BenjaminGlatt
It still sounds like nickleback

Long before I ever heard of Big Wreck I hated Nickleflat, now I hate them even more.
I hate Thornley's solo crap. BRING BACK BIG WRECK~!
EVERYTHING was negative in the 90's.
My generation's music is better than your generation's music.
In other news, my political opinion is much better than your political opinion.
