Broke up with a girl while on deployment and this song saved my life from depression and being upset. I put a thousand miles on a treadmill listening to this album and this song...Thornley Rules and Big Wreck was a great band like Virgos Merlot and then disappears leaving US wanting more!
Honestly. Big Wreck, Matthew Good Band, Our Lady Peace, The Watchmen, Tragically Hip,Barenaked Ladies,Zuckerbabies, By Divin Right, The Inbreds, I Mother Earth,Rusty,The Tea Party,Moist,Pure,Sloan,Econoline Crush, The Gandharvas,Alannis Morrisette,Amanda Marshall,Sarah McLachlan,Chantal Kreviazuk,Great Big Sea,Tal Backman, Cowboy Junkies, etc,etc
Man, I saw them at The Kee to Bala a few years back and they just rocked! It was a great summer night. Up north, in a rare warm Canadian summer night, under the stars, on the water. Good memories.
I love this band, so "Thin Lizzy"-esque! Fear not, the 90s are on the way back. Music hit rock bottom in the past 10 years and all the greats, goods, so-sos and yeah-sure-let's-hear-its are back on the playlists!
I couldn't believe people weren't picking up on them faster when they were around. I absolutely loved this CD and turned on a few friends to it. Again, what a shame, so talented and great songwriters.
You hear them play this now, and it’s fucking incredible how polished they’ve become. Still a kick ass band in this video doing the best they can with the circumstances as they were.
the good old days when music tv actually featured musicians performing instead of a bunch of "reality" tv shows of fucked up narcissists. RIP MuchMusic, MuchMore Music and MTV... as lame as programming and heavy rotation could sometimes be was great to turn on and catch some cool tunes like this.
I am an active musician and I can tell you that performing outside in cold weather sucks. If your hands are cold it hurts to play your guitar. Your vocal cords and throat get super dry, super fast. You may also notice that during the first (?) verse he gestures off-stage and does a thumbs-up at someone out of the shot. It's likely he was having trouble hearing himself and was telling the sound man to turn up his voice. So he was probably singing harder than is good to hear himself over the band.
Anyone who plays in a band knows how hard it must've been to perform even half as good as they did in snowy weather. Sucks he missed the hi-notes, but it's nigh-impossible in those conditions. The instruments sound fucking awesome!!
Back then the crowd would just stand there and listen. These days the crowd just stands there holding up their iphones. The more things change the more they stay the same.....
Am "I" missing something here too or is just me that can hear his vocal chords hitting the floor on EVERY chorus! Granted it's winter and he was gassed according to reports, but holy fawk, that was BAD! (loved the guitars though!)
@DeeceJeff Today's generation is cursed with mostly bad music. I feel sorry for the youth growing up idolizing 50 cent, beyonce, and the lower forms like lady gaga, spears, etc... My generation, early 90's Metallica, Nirvana, Guns and Roses,

I opened up for these guys in Jackson, MS about 10 years ago. Great people, good music, and treated us like royalty. A pure pleasure, that was....
Fuck I miss the 90s...more specific, the Canadian Alternative 90s!
How much of a moment was this? Look at it. Beautiful.

Man I _loooovvveee_ Econoline Crush! They're such an unknown band here in the US!
Your list is on point!
never heard of Ian having a bad vocal day. Cold weather? improvement over 25 years? best band ever
Every other song in the set he nailed. Might be a monitor issue. Not sure maybe this song was early or first in the set.
Imagine if they did this again...
i was at this concert in 98, i was 16 and had to skip school to come to the afternoon shows, it was amazing!!
One of the best songs, EVER, Still
yep
Man, I saw them at The Kee to Bala a few years back and they just rocked! It was a great summer night. Up north, in a rare warm Canadian summer night, under the stars, on the water. Good memories.

Just saw them tonight in Thornhill at Cosmos music Festival! Amazing performance from an incredible band ! Love to them and all ! ❤️
I couldn't believe people weren't picking up on them faster when they were around. I absolutely loved this CD and turned on a few friends to it. Again, what a shame, so talented and great songwriters.
One of my favorite songs. And I love this live version too. Thanks for posting it!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I love this song. I wish I could see him live some day..
I miss the '90s everytime I hear "that song!" Pun intended.
You hear them play this now, and it’s fucking incredible how polished they’ve become. Still a kick ass band in this video doing the best they can with the circumstances as they were.
i was there!!! kick ass!
My god this band is so far and away better now... and they were pretty fucking fire then, a quarter century ago.
Just a pocketbook Brando ❤

Something about a breakup song in Drop C# tuning hits ya right in the feels.

now if i could only find a lyrics video
Good thing Big Wreck is back together ;)
Be cool if Thornley put them on one of their albums, resung of course.
Man - this is a f***in throwback! I was there... about 20 feet from the stage..
I had on a red toque (that means winter hat for you americans.)
I love that song...... the best breakup song

God thinks we already live there.
@funkynelg its not you , they do drop, listen to the mics squeek, and its amazing that everything is any way in tune, due the temperatures.
@sinning1966 Well, I think the only Canadian in Big Wreck is Ian himself. Weren't they from Boston?
@itinkle Well said. The new generation of music is the absolute pits
where was Snowjob 98 again? Lake Louise?
Everybody just standing around, not moving. Wuts wrong with these ppl? THEY SHOULD LUV THAT SONG
Back then the crowd would just stand there and listen. These days the crowd just stands there holding up their iphones. The more things change the more they stay the same.....
confirmed.
confirmed. I was there and I died.
Actually Chad used to open for Big Wreck. Ian gave Chad his start.
have you heard their song mistake that nickleback even covered, that song is deep
@fakeplasticme i totally holeheartly agree
Playing an instrument in the snow has gotta be difficult
i know exactly what you mean, it has a more powerful sound for some reason.
What’s the drummer sitting on? A milk crate?
What are you talking about? Canadians are the ONLY ones in heaven.
That Phat: Song
a shame...these guys are effing fsntsstic...
@fakeplasticme lmao so fin true.
Am "I" missing something here too or is just me that can hear his vocal chords hitting the floor on EVERY chorus! Granted it's winter and he was gassed according to reports, but holy fawk, that was BAD!
(loved the guitars though!)
Man that sounds good. Almost too good to be live, am I missing something here. Where is the original Big Wreck vid though?
Great, Great, Great song.
it’s on here now just look it up
wow, I only got to go to snowjob '97 with way worse bands... I may have thrown a bottle at chumbawumba though, but my memory is a little foggy.
@fakeplasticme
agreed
i know eh.. big wreck was awesome.. just another band that hardly saw the light of day. Sad. I'm so sick of Nickelback too, this is way better.
@DeeceJeff Today's generation is cursed with mostly bad music. I feel sorry for the youth growing up idolizing 50 cent, beyonce, and the lower forms like lady gaga, spears, etc...
My generation, early 90's Metallica, Nirvana, Guns and Roses,
i agree with you but guns and roses suck😂 that’s the only thing i disagree with.
Great song.....such a shame the crowd though.Emotionless.
canadians do it in the snow, son.
but wtf is with all the leather..
Yeah, I thought the same thing, emotionless crowd, no reaction...nada. Like wood.
