Hey, David! We are Indie Devs! We would love if you could take a look at our channel and tell us what you think about our retro jrpg style game :) Hope you like it :D
Someone recommended this to me when the full version came out. I’m having fun grinding collectibles and it’s easy to pop on and off. Good game and not expensive either. Have coop ongoing with some friends
Some indie genre's have been going solid for awhile now, like metroidvania's. Axiom Verge is like 10 years old now. The indie rpg's 10 years ago though.... I have played more rpgmaker games than I'd like to recall. I think the first indie rpg I played where I realized they could really do a good job of emulating old jrpg's, innovating on those rpg's, and tell a new story was either CrossCode or Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark. Both of which were successful enough to let their dev's start development on a second game. The impression I get of Secrets of Grindea from this video seems like it could totally be one of those hit indie rpg's. Just seems like maybe releasing it in Feb/Mar 2024 will leave it seriously overlooked for months with all the other big rpg's and live service games that have released recently or about to release.
Secret of Mana, Earthbound, Terranima, Zelda... Instantly moved up from middle of my backlog to "installing right now". Just finished Astlibra and that was a fantastically fun game, so this seems like a good follow-up.
Good review. Only criticism I had is I think you misunderstood or misinterpret the story and the purpose of collectors. It's a tiny nitpick but maybe that's just because you didn't fancy the story enough to focus on it because it's not your cup of tea because surprisingly the story gets deep moving forward. Besides that there's nothing wrong with the review.
This game looks gorgeous, seems like gameplay and mechanics showed off are on point. Will have to keep this one in mind to pick up at some point. Always such insightful reviews of things from you David, keep up all the hard work you do for us, it is truly appreciated. #Roadto75k
It looks so cute! The season idea with the changes reminds me of Secret Of Mana fuses with the Timeshift Stones in the Desert region in Zelda - Skyward Sword
I've been waiting this to finish since buying an EA copy nearly a decade ago. I'm still looking forward to a playthrough but this game in particular definitely burned me out on Early Access games going forward.
Thanks for THAT reminder. :D I played the demo 3 years ago and didn't even finish it. But I remember the puzzles. There was even some math stuff in a desert I really liked. :D And the sarcastic item bag is a highlight.
I felt the same way when I heard that title! It was a quick nope and a pass. Then I saw snippet of game play and looked it up, saw you just posted a video on it... and yeah, the game looks just short of awesome. I'm impressed so far.
I'm hearing game mechanics similar to a touhou Luna nights where you have to read the pattern of shots also oracle of seasons from legend of Zelda series.
I'd glanced at this when it popped up in my Steam feed but hadn't looked at it more thoroughly. but hearing it's like the offspring of a throuple between Zelda, Mana, and Lufia II? welp, I am absolutely sold.
Did the channel get a rebranding with the name and icon? Looks great. This one looks fun. Haven't heard of it before. Thanks for sharing these games. Cheers!
David there a game on kickstarter that i think will be the next chain echos - sea of stars. TH-cam wount let me post the name it keeps deleting my comments i think because of the name. It looks like it will be great it weird i cant post the name...its not even a bad word or name.
This game has been available for years, like, 8 of them I think, this isn't a new game.. It's just an old game that they took their time finishing. It is good though.
So it's very difficult and the name is "secrets of grindea"... imagine a lot of grinding is needed. Never found any entertainment value in grinding. Also it seems like a lot of retro indie games are on the difficult side, made for people who have already played loads and loads of them and just playing them for the challenge - wish there were more that are easy to start with, then getting more difficult as it goes on like non-indie games tend to do.
I already dislike the combat system and hate puzzles, would have been better if it was turned based imo, too bad but i dont think this game is for me. Unicorn Overlord though is amazing so far!!
I hit my time limit on the demo. Just waiting for that pre-order count down. Got bored and looked at the class screen from the main menu. There are SO many shadowed out classes. Can't wait.
I mean, the reason that the bosses are so cock-twistingly hard is because...I mean...literally, it's part of the title. Player: "Do you expect me to die?" SoG: "No, I expect you to GRIIIIIIND~ Read my fucking game title, I want you to be so caked in enemy blood that I shouldn't be able to tell which parts of you are which anymore!"
I think this game is not for me. The art-style may be okay but definitely nothing special. The core gameplay may be more than okay but being a Souls-like kills it for me. What I have seen so far this game does not play in the same league as Chained Echoes and Sea of Stars. For whom this game sounds interesting - have fun.
@@electroelysium2281 CE feels like a bad Kemco game, and really could have used a few extra hands on the project for a bit of oversight to make sure the game was fun. Member berries are not enough to make a good game.

I remember backing this TEN years ago. The art and animation was gorgeous.
It's finally "finished".
Hallelujah.
They put alot of love in that Game and thats why i loved playing it in early access via Steam. I still wish that it gets its way to consoles somehow.

I had this game during early access and it was so great then. Now that it's fully released I need to do a full playthrough.
Same here.. I loved it back then and plan to go back to it soon
Agreed. I loved my early play through. Haven’t looked into it in a while and it seems a bunch has been added. Looking forward to playing it again

This looks absolutely incredible. The season-changing looks so gorgeous. I might just pick this up!!
It's so good!
I wish I could afford more than the switch. Love the news about the JRPGs this year.
Get it on a good console like PC.
You can currently buy it for around 13 bucks! Which is a really low price for all that amazing content. :3

Solid look at the game, appreciate the information you've relayed to us simple humans!
I started playing back when Tai Ming was the latest update. Good times.
I purchased this game in 2014 and I'm so happy it's finally finished. Next on my list is Kingdoms of the Dump!
I've been waiting this to finish since buying an EA copy nearly a decade ago. I'm still looking forward to a playthrough but this game in particular definitely burned me out on Early Access games going forward.
Appreciate the review. Definitely bought the game. Can’t wait to try it!

I liked the Roguelike mode in this game! Glad they reached the full release. Can’t wait to play the story mode!
This game wasn't on my radar but it is now thanks to your video. Thanks as always David!
I’m so happy you’re talking about Secrets of Grindea! More people need to play it
I'm trying out the demo now. Thanks David. I didn't know about this one. Going to be fun to play after finals.
Wonder if they'll collab with Limited Run Games or something for a physical release?
Have you played crosscode? Something tells me you'll love it
I felt the same way when I heard that title! It was a quick nope and a pass. Then I saw snippet of game play and looked it up, saw you just posted a video on it... and yeah, the game looks just short of awesome. I'm impressed so far.
This has been on my steam wish list forever. It always seemed to go on sale when I had 17 cents in the bank so I never got it.
I'm hearing game mechanics similar to a touhou Luna nights where you have to read the pattern of shots also oracle of seasons from legend of Zelda series.
Best handheld Zelda game for sure!
I had also written it off by the name and seeing it in action and hearing your thoughts really changed my mind
You forgot to mention that it has a complete rogue like room based mode as well
This looks fun! Don't know if you played it before, but this is giving me Shalnor Legends vibes.
😅 there are some strategies like getting more close from the bosses, even if you use projectiles. But very good review
I'd glanced at this when it popped up in my Steam feed but hadn't looked at it more thoroughly. but hearing it's like the offspring of a throuple between Zelda, Mana, and Lufia II? welp, I am absolutely sold.
Good show sir, and nice Abercrombie t-shirt! =)
Reading his 2nd book right now! :)
Yo, I completely missed this one! It looks super fun
Looks pretty cool! Nice review, David!
Thanks!
This game looks awesome. I'll definitely be giving it a go!
Did the channel get a rebranding with the name and icon? Looks great. This one looks fun. Haven't heard of it before. Thanks for sharing these games. Cheers!
lol, the name has always been the same, but I did just get this new icon which I love
@@davidvinc yeah it's really great! It makes things look all new and overhauled even though it's just the pictures.
Looks great so long as there isn't too much grind... ea.
Yeah if this hits console it will be worth a look for me
Thanks, David!
Have you ever played the Rune Factory series?
David there a game on kickstarter that i think will be the next chain echos - sea of stars. TH-cam wount let me post the name it keeps deleting my comments i think because of the name. It looks like it will be great it weird i cant post the name...its not even a bad word or name.
Try looking up G-o-d-s-h-a-r-d chronicles
Sold! I know what I'm playing next
Scanning your review to see if there are timed attacks 😆
Hahahah! no, none of that
Looks neat
Awesome background
i want physical release!
It looks cute!
This game has been available for years, like, 8 of them I think, this isn't a new game.. It's just an old game that they took their time finishing. It is good though.
Yeah I was gonna say I played this yearssss ago.
8 of them?
Well it’s finally out of EA so it’s kinda new to the rest of us lol
It technically IS a new game since it's fully out in 1.0 but other than that it's been in EA for a good while!
EA isn't "released." It's a new game.
ROcking that abercrombie, my fellow millennial. Haha.

Still waiting on that evermore itch
I need a pet centric game soo bad
Great review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This game is awesome
Good morning Daddy ❤
Many a decent game has been ruined by extreme difficulty. Ain't nobody got time for that.
I mean, the reason that the bosses are so cock-twistingly hard is because...I mean...literally, it's part of the title.
Player: "Do you expect me to die?"
SoG: "No, I expect you to GRIIIIIIND~ Read my fucking game title, I want you to be so caked in enemy blood that I shouldn't be able to tell which parts of you are which anymore!"
*insert awkward gif*

I hope this doesn't become the next Chained Echoes or Sea of Stars. I was hoping this would be a good game.
Huh? Chained Echoes is amazing.

Easy Mode!? REALLY!?
