about 25-27 hours in, so many plot twist and a lot of re-envisioning of the original trials of mana elements, each and every one of them is improved and enhanced and tweaked in my opinion. But I wish they can still do more lore drop on some elements more... but all in all, the scenary is soooo beautiful! esp at the sanctuary of mana, sooo beautiful.
My opinion on Careena’s accent: I love it. I am just playing the demo but I want to know more about how she got that accent. Why wasn’t it from her parents? It’s just a good mix too. Partitio from Octopath Traveller II comes to mind with his “western” accent. I grew up in Colorado, lived in Los Angeles for 20 years, and I’m now in South Carolina, so I appreciate the mix of accents even if it’s a bit goofy… like us all.
Im still very pissed at the no indoors exploration. I might be weird but you people have no idea how this simple thing is subconsciously helping you enjoy the world a LOT more.
I love exploring inside peoples homes as well, however the mana series hasn’t really been good at this. Secret of mana had no hidden treasures or lore inside peoples homes and often had npcs with nothing interesting to say. Makes you think why bother
I'm burned out from doing that in RPGs. The last time I played Tales of Symphonia it was driving me nuts feeling like I was missing recipes unless I wasted time in every village going to every last dwelling.
David I’ve been subscribed to you for years… I think I found you around Covid. I’m casually looking up JRPGs looking at other stuff and when I heard your voice something hit me…I’ve been deeply depressed and so confused the last few years and I guess hearing your voice, watching this video made me realize how much I love rpg games …. I’m trying to explain something in words that I can’t but, you have woke me up , I guess I could say 😂, thank you David
David, your reviews are incredibly informative and focused on the most important element: how does it play? Going into detail would obviously make the video too long, so you separate it into other videos for a deeper look. It’s perfect, you’re the absolute best! Can’t wait for your next video, can we have a deeper look into the core gameplay loop? Specifically I’d like to see how exploration and combat feed into character progression and how the class system works. Thank you!
I was sold on the demo as “more Trials of Mana but a little newer” and I was happy enough with that, and wasn’t expecting the reviews to be much more beyond. But a lot of what I’m hearing today is so much more positive and hype than I was expecting so much so that my own excitement has already gone from high to very very high - can’t wait!
After the Trials of Mana remake, I wished they would do another Mana game with the same style or engine and it seemed like they stupidly weren't going to. When the first trailer for Visions of Mana came out, I was ecstatic and could immediately tell it was going to be a good game. I preordered, played a tiny but of the demo, and was sold that it would be a good time, but after seeing your review I am so much more excited. It sounds like this game will be phenomenal, and I'm really looking forward to jumping into it.
"After Dawn of Mana hit, we really didn't see anything for a good 15+ years..." Meanwhile Legend of Mana's (1999) over in the corner shrugging its shoulders. Also forgetting the remake of the original (2016). It was on Vita, it counts.
@@xdcksgmd37 I consider myself a fan of the of the Mana series, Even played the original " final fantasy aventure" and its remakes, and I LOVE Legend of mana, I replayed it this year and still think that is a great Game, homages done to it in Visions of Mana make really happy
Lol, god damn it, Dave. Why that shirt. Nearly made me choke my drink. Regardless, great thoughts as per usual. Really loving this JRPG renaissance we're experiencing now.
Sounds like they learned the right lessons from FF7 Rebirth. The plot drives you forward, but the exploration enhances the characters. I played the demo earlier and immediately felt the difference between it and Trials, which I had recently finished before hand. Trials is much more focused on combat, whereas this is built more around exploration. I very quickly recognized the "nerfed" class strikes as being side-lined for the much more readily available vessel abilities. I had good feelings about the game after the demo. Glad the larger scope of it holds up.
I request two things. The ability to leave stamps on the map so the notebook isn’t required. And the ability to sell your gear, but keep the appearance forever.
Charlotte always sounded like she was from Boston, rather than a small child; I switched that over to Japanese voice acting pretty quickly, and it turned out that King Richard has the same voice actor as Koichi Adachi from Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon, so that was cool. Pretty excited for this, but I need some new hardware before I can even really try the demo in earnest; I love class systems, and the idea of tying them to the 8 elementals sounds fantastic! Are there new bosses, though? All I've been seeing are things like the mantis ant, fullmetal hugger, etc.
Thanks for the review, David! My two cents for those playing on PC: I played the demo on my 4790, 16GB of RAM, GTX 970 anda a SATA SSD. I was able to play it on high settings @1080p, hovering between 30 and 50 fps. Even though that might sound low, given the nature of the game it always felt very smooth. So anybody with newer hardware should be absolutely fine!
@@calendar6526 yes! I tried usong FSR to fill up my 1440p monitor’s resolution, but it looks really bad, like if you applied a simple photoshop blur over the whole thing. It looked better with no FSR, oddly enough. But that was just me. Maybe others will get better results 😅
You reassured me there. But honestly from the mid/so-so reactions I've seen so far, they were either from people who had no previous Mana series knowledge or weren't JRPG fans. I think it's pretty safe to say most of those like you and me who started back with the original FFA or Secret of Mana are going to have a blast with this one. The weekend can't come soon enough, I'm locking myself in and enjoying this as much as I can!

@@calendar6526 It is because Reviewers beasically never use the grades bellow 60 you can be the worst game in the history of gaming and most review outlets still give you grades around the sixties and fifties. So most games that are just average or a little bit bellow average usually get grades in the seventies to low eighties and the majority of actual decent games gets the gradeds from eighties to nineties and the games that go higher are usually the exceptional ones like your Legend of Zelda games or your GTA, Red Dead Redemptions and so on
I think I do too, but it's been a while for me for Trials. I do find it's a lot tighter once I speed up the camera and develop my characters. Great addition to Mana!
It saddens me how the Mana series have stepped away from couch multiplayer.... There was a time, centuries ago, while I was still in high school, when I spent good time with my dad and friends playing Legend of Mana together. Now very few games do that... heck, it won't even allow online multiplayer....
The demo gave us doubts but today, they've been put to rest. Mana is back guys and better than ever! Got me hyped again David. Don't worry about getting to 100K subs dude, with content like this, you'll get there before you know it.
Cheers David! one thing i couldnt stand in trials was how the skills worked. i felt like they were a bit janky. and i hope they made it much more fluid to use on this one.
Tried the demo, was pretty happy to see the menuing and such was very similar to Trials of Mana. Similar but different combat, I didn't get my feet wet enough to get a great feel due to a demo but it looked alright. Definitely agree with Careena, she's the new Carlie/Charlotte IMO. I utterly loved Trials, especially from ROM translation nostalgia from SD3, and was really, really happy to see they did things like fix the leveling pacing and improved on the stats system. TOM fixed two of my three grievances with the game. Incredibly low difficulty fixed by Expert/No Future, but poor voice acting, and no multiplayer remained. It would seem that multiplayer is "planned later", which is a pretty big letdown. Apparently the Japanese Twitter showcases five difficulty levels which would mirror Trials, which looks positive. Thanks for the info, will be keeping my eye on it!
I still had to decide between this and metaphor refantasia. Going with metaphor as its more my thing but thanks for the review will wait for a price drop
this makes happy I decided to pre-order it... and I also like the discovering of random places with monsters that are maybe too high levels, and then coming back again until I finally beat them, did the same thing in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.....
The thing that runined my fun was the inability to teleport between places places even after new modes of transport were unlocked. Like i dont want to go through 3 load screens when it could have been 1. The hand holding really miffed me off also like im in the final dungeon and there are still 3 areas you wont let me go to? And whats the point of an overwold map if you dont let me explore in it? Everyplace is locked off till is explicitly tells you to go there and that was very frustrating as well. Also hard mode just made it feel like i spent all my time reviving my party members and doing boss fights alone because the party dosnt know how to dodge. Like yes i have 3 glass cannons and i can handle each fine but the AI is like dodge? Idk sounds like a pain ill pass
3:00 Going by my demo experience, I like to call this game Trials of Mana Remake 2, because it's so similar in it's systems, but changing things up like the class system and such, like a refinement as a sequel should be.
They don't care about immersion. If they did, you would be able to go inside SOME houses. Y'know, like rpg's have been doing since the freaking 80's. I've said that same line in like four comments already, but it's disturbing that everyone is so accepting of such amazing laziness.
Was a little scared after seeing gamespots terrible rating for the game, but good to hear someone i'd trust more an actual RPG player. Glad to hear that it's good, going to get it for sure now. Really sounds like the gripes I did have with the trials of mana remake have really been addressed with a lot of quality of life differences.
Hey David, Think I am going to pick this up but was wondering if i should play Trials of Mana first? How often do you take breaks when you are playing video games? Especially with the workout routines, etc.
Thank you for the review, I'm so glad the game delivered! Are you able to confirm if there's new game plus or not? I've been dying to know if they included that feature!
I'm glad to hear it's a great game. I'll be picking it up. Now we just need Square to release all the other games on xbox. I really want the Star Ocean 2 remake (._.)
I bought it this morning without really seeing anything. Just putting all my chips in. The only other Mana game I’ve ever played is the one that’s on the Switch. I assume Trials of Mana? Excited to play it later today
It looks really cool and I like the cat guy! Thanks for the review; do you recommend getting a PS5 mostly for this game? I'm with a big backlog of switch games and have PS4, but not the 5 yet haha
Are they going to release it on the nintendo switch successor? I only have a switch. I plan to get the next console when it releases. I hope this game comes out on switch. It looks really good, but I haven't heard anything about it coming out on switch. I'd love to hear if you.know anything about that.
Careena is really great in the Japanese dub. I feel like English dubs should give up on trying to reproduce kansai accents. The best approximation I can think of is something like a heavy Brooklyn accent, but nothing is truly a good comparison (because it has a vibe that is more like a combination of something like a Brooklyn or Boston accent and a southern accent). I think the best solution is probably to try and express the same "vibes" via actual dialogue/localization rather than accent.
I’m really looking forward to this game, but I think I’ll wait till I get a PS5. I tried the demo on the PS4 and the performance seemed sluggish and/or choppy. Was it just me?

You might want to watch my beginners hints and tips video because you’re doing fast travel wrong
3:00 Going by my demo experience, I like to call this game Trials of Mana Remake 2, because it's so similar in it's systems, but changing things up like the class system and such, like a refinement as a sequel should be.
Man, this game looks gorgeous. Can't wait for my preorder to arrive.
Does it offer local coach co-op like Secret of Mana?
Wow. I was anxious about how this would turn out. Glad to see it’s a hit!
Yessssss
Stoked. Thanks for the thoughts!
I was looking for ur review first, ur dope David! 😎
You make a good point about voice accents. The whole area should have it to reflect the character too. That makes more immersive
They don't care about immersion. If they did, you would be able to go inside SOME houses. Y'know, like rpg's have been doing since the freaking 80's. I've said that same line in like four comments already, but it's disturbing that everyone is so accepting of such amazing laziness.
David i friggen LOVE that shirt ! lol
Was a little scared after seeing gamespots terrible rating for the game, but good to hear someone i'd trust more an actual RPG player. Glad to hear that it's good, going to get it for sure now. Really sounds like the gripes I did have with the trials of mana remake have really been addressed with a lot of quality of life differences.
how is the music? Hopefully it's as good as the older games.
I loved the music, it’s typical mana whimsy
Good to hear about the story, very excited to pick this one up!
Hope you enjoy it!
Hey David,
Think I am going to pick this up but was wondering if i should play Trials of Mana first? How often do you take breaks when you are playing video games? Especially with the workout routines, etc.
Came here to learn about mana… stayed for David’s shirt
Totally looking forward to Visions! Just need a PS5 in the holiday season
So freaking hyped for this one, I loved the Trials of Mana Remake! :D
David, make a video showcasing the classes of each character, when they equip an elemental.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for the review, I'm so glad the game delivered! Are you able to confirm if there's new game plus or not? I've been dying to know if they included that feature!
I'm glad to hear it's a great game. I'll be picking it up.
Now we just need Square to release all the other games on xbox. I really want the Star Ocean 2 remake (._.)
Legends of Mana (and it’s upscaled re-release) be like… 👀 🙋♂️ just playing. Thanks for the insight, David!
Definitely get the PS5 version
@@davidvinc Awesome, thanks! It'll be one of the first grabs if I do buy one soon.
Love you David!!! You are awesome!
It’s excellent so far. Gorgeous and plays great.
So pumped for this. Loved your review. Love your shirt too lol
I'm so hyped!!. I Platinumed Secret & Trials as preparation for this one. without spoilers, how do the trophies look like? :)
Love it. And having access to all the characters is the best imo.
Day 1 buy
I'm having a hard time finding any reviews that go over the "very hard" difficulty. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the review 🩵
Maybe I will pick this up on the Switch 2. I am glad they are going back to what work and sold back in the day.
Are they going to release it on the nintendo switch successor? I only have a switch. I plan to get the next console when it releases. I hope this game comes out on switch. It looks really good, but I haven't heard anything about it coming out on switch. I'd love to hear if you.know anything about that.
@@Avertan221 David has mentioned that it is likely a Switch 2 launch title.
Trials was amazing. The demo for Visions was great, just waiting until to ight to play the full game.
Should you thing it goes back to the gameboy one, a remake. If you will.? What do you think?
I hope this game eventually makes it to switch. I would love to get a chance to play it.
Hope this game does well. We need more games like this
Careena is really great in the Japanese dub.
4ish more days !!! cant wait !!! - btw love your tshirt
Only 1.5 days for me!
Yay! Thank you!
